Guilherme Leite
I have the same notebook, and to have everything working you should do the following (related to the partitions): 1- Boot with Media Center recovery: it should recreate the partitions asking the size of the C: partition from 2 to 98.... choose the size, the remaining will be the MAC partition. 2- Install windows (XP or VISTA) in c: partition 3- Install the Windows Media Center OS to work properly 4- Install MaxOS 10.4.8 from Jas (the lastest distribution*) 5- Edit /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist and add for the key Timeout a string 3 for example after reboot you enter into MACOS system and if you press any key in 3 seconds then you will see a option to load your Windows partition... with this, you should have Windows, MacOS and your Media Center key should work well. rogabean
Well .. no doesn`t work i downgraded my bios to A07 and then upgraded to A09 and still nothing . I think this might be in the diagnostics partition ... i have to find image of it .. second option is to find image of original bios but installed and restore it to mine 1. It is not located on the diagnostic partition. I don't even have that partition anymore and I have a custom logo. 2. Why do you care? Dell will honor your warranty with the custom logo as it is fully supported by them. The logo changer was made by Dell. 3. I will look around though and see what I can find for removing it. Wolf's Dell site (google it) might have some information. edit: you need the dell utility asset.com to remove it.
tbcarey
Sorry everyone. I got promoted last week (woohoo!) so I've been under a mountain of new work and getting to grips with everything. However, I haven't forgotten about the task at hand -- just haven't had any time to work on it. Last things that happened were that I merged the subwoofer with the main speakers into one device, which took some time due to the way CoreAudio handles channel allocation and filters -- the subwoofer on the Dell is not a true LFE device; it just merges both stereo channels into a mono channel and uses a low-pass filter to remove frequencies it shouldn't be playing. This is evidenced by the fact that the old method (having two separate devices in OS X) only works if you select the main speakers device, or by looking at your a dio mixer in Windows; if the main speakers are muted, output to the subwoofer stops even if that device isn't muted. Unfortunately, this will make it difficult to ever control the volume of the subwoofer independently of the main speakers in OS X, unless you customise the high-pass filter to your taste as well to remove low-end frequencies. Not a priority right now so I'm not going to worry about it, but perhaps eventually. Jack headphone detection 'works', but not correctly. My current belief about this is that perhaps AppleHDA d esn't properly support the concept of Switcher Widgets from the Intel HD Audio 1.0 spec. Sharing a DAC is considered a 'special case' in the HD Audio spec; normally, each Pin Widget is supposed to be capable of mapping to a unique DAC, if necessary. The Sigmatel 9220 does this, for example - the headphone Pin Widgets connect to DAC 0, and the other outputs to DAC 1, DAC 2, and DAC 3 - so when headphones are connected, the other DACs all mute but DAC 0 remains active. However, Sigmatel 9200 only has one DAC with a Switcher Widget, so the parser should communicate with the Switcher and in turn notify the Master Volume Widget to mute the speakers (Port D) while keeping the headphones active (Port A). Instead, I believe AppleHDA simply detects headphone presence and powers down the DAC, thus killing output on both the speakers and the headphone jack. But this is just a guess, so I'll keep playing around to see what I can come up with, when I have time.

macgirl
Which options do I choose to install for an Inspiron 6400 with uphuck v1.4i DVD? Intel Graphics, Intel Ethernet, and Intel Wireless. I installed mainly with no options but firts attemps of boot stops in the first blue screen with no mouse pointer, so I guess in LoginWindow. But it started fine with -x (Safe option at boot). xpionage2
hey all, I just spend the last few days reading this guide (all 33 pages!) and it was EXTREMELY useful. Thanks Devilhood and TBCarey! You guys rock! Can anyone help me figure out two things: 1.) Color banding: My fresh install of OSx was with Jas 10.4.8 with Nvidida Titan Drivers. I then found this guide and used DiaboliK 1049 installer without removing the original Titan. Is it too late to do the uninstall? Will it even help? 2.) Is the dmos.kext replacement necessary for the 10.4.10 delta update? What is it for? Thanks in advance. Cheers.

What about the DiaboliK installer? should I remove that? Or just download the 3 you listed and add them to my Extensions folder? Chrysaor
Recently I upgraded my 7800 to 7900GS (free from Dell ) and noticed display sleep is lost (display will go black if it sleeps, if system sleeps and wakes up display will work fine). Does anyone have display sleep working with 7900GS?

auqs10
Hi CasperionX, try the JaS 10.4.8 Intel only SSE3 and then upgrade to 10.4.9 with the package modified, and finaly with 10.4.10 with the kernel modified (find these on demonoid). They worked for me on several systems with no problems (try to set only those parts from the custom settings that correspond to your system from the first clean install of 10.4.8). Does anyone have display sleep working with 7900GS? Lucky you! my 9400 is starting to really p!$$ me off lately. The ExpressCard slot and FireWire have both died on me now, just from general usage. I don't know whether I should sell it, extend my warranty package or throw it across the room. I really want to buy a REV A00 7900GS so I can BIOS flash it to a GTX. Meh, I'll probably just extend my warranty and get them to replace the motherboard again.
naldo
So exactly how do I go about getting the sound muting to work correctly on the e1505 w/ STAC9200? I was using OSX for a while but switched to linux mainly because I couldnt get the speakers to mute when I had headphones in (I spend alot of time in the library and this feature was a must). I would really like to go back to OS X (I miss iWork and adium soooo much). Can someone put up a link to the proper codec dump to get the sound to fucntion correctly? Or is it more complicated than that. I'll do whatever it takes. Thanks in advance.

Did you actually read the Sound section on my guide? all the help and information you need is there Damn, that sucks to hear Yeah, tell me about it. I'll probably be able to get my motherboard replaced straight away, along with the GFX card. I'll just state that one of the tech guys said when I had previously phoned, that he would replace my GFX card with the 7900GS due to heat related issues. That would be a viable reason as well, seeing as there is a 10 degrees celcius difference in heat production between the two.
naldo
I knwo how to get the sound to work with AppleHDApatcher, but I thought maybe that tbcarey guy figured out the sound muting problem, I saw the post a few pages back about pin configurations and whatnot and how it should fix the problem, but all that stuff is way over my head as far as how to go about implementing it. So I guess speaker muting is still a no go then? If so that makes me very sad

Ignacio
Hi, I'm a happy owner of a Dell 640m running OSX 10.4.10 smoothly from a USB hdd, besides some minor issues (like no audio) everything's working fine and as I said, I'm happy The only issue is the cpus=1 boot option in order to get my core 2 duo cpu working and I was wondering if someone knows if in the future it would be a patch for enabling both cores so, will Core 2 Duo Dells be able to use both cores somewhere in the future? Thanks in advance, Ignacio.
casperionx
That seems to be a common complaint of us dell users unfortunately (the lack of dual core) for our lappys - my poweredge 830 server also running Mac OS X (10.4.8) flawlessly with both cores running (it boots up in like 5 seconds!!) - shame its a server tho, its got {censored} video lol!! However, the sleep fix SEEMS to be a somewhat effective cure, however, I have been unable to get sleep working using the cputhrottler, so Im gonna remove it over the weekend, and upgrade to 10.4.9 and then try the other sleep options available - and then I'll try the sleep and wake with 2 cpus going. (infact when I try to turn on both cores with cpus=2, it comes up with a kernel panic :S)
Darkmatter
I just installed Uphuck 10.4.9 V2 r3 on my Dell 6400. Core 2 Duo 1.83 2GB ram Intel 945 Graphics Sigmatel 9200 Dell Wireless Broadcom 440X After installation, everything works out of the box except the sound so i have to use the AppleHDA patcher. BTW i disabled the multicore from the BIOS. When i tried to enable the multicore from the BIOS it boots and shows the desktop, the graphics were running smoothly but after a few seconds i got a kernel panic. After that, i reboot and can't go back to OSX again with both cores working. Anyone from you guys have the same problem as I? How can we get the second core working?
