I want only my headphone working without sound from the speakers.

Please guys help me, is frustrating!

Someone help me.

Either the mic doesn't works, but I need the headphone working well.

Help guys is from long time I'm trying to solve this.

here my codec dump from my dell 6400:codec6400.txt

Dude, did you just skip the entire thread to say that? you could try reading all the posts by tbcarey to understand the problem first.

Is there any way to find out which one I have? In Vista under Device Manager, it simply says "Generic PnP Monitor," and I couldn't even find any drivers at support.dell.com. If it helps, I have the WUXGA Glossy screen.

Check the Dell Part No. for the screen on your invoice for the Laptop. You can also get this information online (or follow tbcarey's instructions below)

Thanks for the offers, guys, but I'll have to wait until I actually get this muting working before I even consider anything like that! Right now it's all just talk, unfortunately. I have been busy with work but plan on spending some time this weekend locking myself in a room and tearing the whole audio subsystem apart. I have a moderately defined idea of how I want to approach this now, but again, there's no guarantee it will work. Eventually, I'm sure it will come together.

adude123:  Go into device manager, monitors, open your monitor's properties, details tab, hardware ids, and compare to the following models:

SHP13C1 - Sharp

SEC3155 -Samsung

LTN170WU - Samsung

LPL0000 - LG-Philips

Also, for those that have sent me PMs, I'm not ignoring you -- just at work at the moment -- I'll respond as soon as possible!

isnt it possible to change the bootscreen at mac os? so we could maybe change the bootscreen and wouldnt get this stutering thing

Unfortunately it is by no means as simple as that because the hardware will still initialize the same way.

so is it maybe possible to "deactivate" the screen temporaly, until mac os is ready?

btw. in you first post the tinyurl isnt working "SpeedStep and (S3) Sleep has been fixed by Paulicat to work under 10.4.8. The actual package is in a BETA state so backing up your original kernel and the items from Library/StartupItems is highly recommended. You can download it from this tinyurl link to try it out, also visit the original thread here for help and support.

Oh, the link must have expired, it was pretty old when I first put it up anyways.

Not such a big deal though since it's way better to just use 10.4.9 and the ACPI package.

btw, deactivating the screen isn't possible, the only real solution to fix stuttering would be to force an automatic (S3) Sleep just before the initialization of the login window.

Isn't Prasys still working on another solution for this?

Yeah, he was, but the project itself has come to a stand-still.

If anyone here could help in getting a dump of the ACPI tables from Linux for the Dell 9400, maybe Prasys would kick-start the work again.

I was going to do this for him, but I have been too busy.

There hasn't been much work done lately in regards to Duddie's program either.

I already gave him ACPI table dump a long time ago.

tbcarey, that doesn't always work. The monitors in laptops usually get detected as Generic PnP by Windows. When they do, you cant get any details on the panel.

The color banding issue could be monitor related because out of all the OSX builds I tried I was only able to improve color banding with Uphucks 1.3 release, not fix it altogether no matter what build or drivers I used.

Thanks for your help anyways guys.

Again, I'm sorry to bother you with such a stupid problem like this.

I'm pretty close to dropping OSX altogether.

I've been looking around and I still can't find a solution for my lack of mirror. When I plug in my VGA monitor, nothing happens. I hit detect displays and nothing happens. I'm using Diabolik's natit, with my 1500m added into the NVDAResman.kext. Am I being a stupid noob?

Thanks for that. Mine is the LG.

@jcbklyny: Thankfully, this time it did show up with the Hardware ID.

I'm trying to consider all the factors that can influence color banding. Other people have the same video card, processor, monitor, kernel, etc... so what is the factor? Especially since this is a laptop, there's not that many variations of components.

Just as a side note, I have the nVidia GeForce Go 7900 GS, Intel 3945ABG, Broadcom 440x, Dell Wireless 350 Bluetooth, Sigmatel 9200, Intel T2600 processor, Philips DVD+/-RW, Hitachi 100 7200rpm, Ricoh 1394, Ricoh memory stick thing, Conexant modem....

(also I never got sleep to work... but I didn't try that hard on it... and I think I read somewhere that graphics problems can tie into sleep problems?)

*sigh* Maybe I'll try reinstalling yet again and trying to install the drivers yet again.

Thanks again to everyone for their help.

AFAIK, that isn't true. Irrespective of whether or not it is detected as a generic pnp monitor, the hardware ids should always be the same, as they are read directly from the hardware and thus accurate. What does yours report, out of curiosity?

Incidentally, most monitor drivers only ever install colour profiles, seeing as 99% of the information comes from the monitor itself as it communicates through the Digital cable.

So like tbcarey said, it should not matter how it is detected.

I don't think display mirroring is supported, only extended desktop.

Woah. I'm behind on the response.

I thought it was,as I all ways see mirror on on those hackintoshes. But anyway, my problem is that my VGA monitor is not detected, the light is still blinking(meaning no signal), and the screen is blank.I hear that "Detect Displays" is buggy. Perhaps that's it .Anyway, I would really really like to get mirror or ext desktop working,so I can finally get rid of XP, as I use my luggable for presentations and gaming on the airplane (C&C3, anyone?).

@adude123, I have very very similar hardware, different HD and WIFI card,1500m. No banding. I'm using Jas 10.4.9(Combo update). Sleep works(poke around for the patches here), but the internal LCD will not wake up along with the comp. I haven't tried Upchuck.

I am fairly certain that you can't get display mirroring, at least it doesn't work for me. Extended desktop works very good, its connected to my 19" LCD via DVI.

I didn't play around with VGA, but DVI works pretty good. Only issue is, you have to plug the display after system is on (make sure its not plugged in while its booting) and use detect display, otherwise internal display will stay black (external display will work fine). I really wish to find a fix to this. If you are using sleep trick to get dual core working, you don't have to use detect display but make sure the video cable isn't plugged when the system is booting, plug it in after it sleeps after it wakes up both screens will be up just fine. I think the problem is in either nvidiaefi or natit, it doesn't properly detect the internal display if an external one is plugged in.

Two quick things.

For those who are using the Sleep Trick to enable the second core (like I am now), hitting sleep yourself can be kind of a pain.. I'm using the following method to automate it.

Install Dockables! 1.0.3 Here is the Link

(it's freeware)

One of the dockable items is Sleep. You can then go to System Preferences->Accounts->Login Items (for your account). Add the application Sleep from the Dockables folder to your list of items.

This will then automatically send your computer to sleep as soon as it boots and logs you in. You can then just wake it up and be ready to go. The only downside is if you just log out of your account and log back in... it's going to sleep again. But I never logout so this wasn't an issue for me. This really works best for those who only have 1 user account.

Second... I've done a custom BIOS Splash screen for my E1705 that others might like. You are a little limited as the Dell BIOS only allows for 640x480 16 color images so I found Black and White to be good for me.

I've attached the image file... you can download the Dell Splash utility from Dell directly or use the floppy image file I've attached with a program such as nero (create a bootable cd and use the image file for the boot portion). If anyone is really interested I can give better instructions for it later.

basically boot from CD and type spl2 DELL.BMP

Very use-full, thanks!

But does anyone have any idea how to restore my original dell bios logo

because i have warranty problems now and the service doesn`t like the custom logo :( ??

Thanks in advance .

Well .. no doesn`t work :)

i downgraded my bios to A07 and then upgraded to A09

and still nothing .

I think this might be in the diagnostics partition ...

i have to find image of it ..

second option is to find image of original bios but installed and restore it to mine
