I've spent about 10 hours reading reviews and searching and reading reviews and....

and I came up with this build. I haven't built a hackintosh since 06 and I tried searching the forums for answers and had extreme difficulty with the search feature.

anyways here is my build. (all from newegg)

Processor: core i7 920

I am having trouble choosing between the asus p6t deluxe

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16813131346

and the gigabyte GA-EX58-UD5

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16813128362

Which of these motherboards is more compatible? also. will either of them be able to run 4 usb ports on the front of the coolermaster storm sniper case I want?

I dont know much about ram either, I chose the cheapest ddr3 triple channel kit i could find that was 1600 mhz

do both motherboards support this memory, and does the processor. does anyone else recommend a different kind?

the PSU search has given me such a headache. Can someone recommend at least a 600-700 watt power supply that will be cheap (under 60) and have good connectors and is reliable? (newegg)

I read up on graphics cards and I would like to find a radeon 3870. can someone point me to the cheapest supported one on newegg?

Thank you all!

I can't help you with any of the i7 stuff, as I haven't built one yet. But I can help you with some of your other questions.

Why do you think you need 600 to 700 watts? You should want quality (of the psu) over quantity (watts).

If you are only using one video card ( a mild one at that) and a couple hard drives, 400 to 500 watts is more than enough.

One of the best PSU vendors is Corsair.

$60 ($50 after rebate) for a clean, no bs 400 watts of power. Can supply 30 amps on the 12 volt rail. Quiet and reliable with a 3 year warranty. Seriously, for your build you don't need a 700 watt psu.

But, if you want a little more juice, BFG also makes quality Power supplies that are a little more reasonable in price.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16817702011

$55 for a 550 watt psu. Has 2 12 volt rails supplying 18 amps on each of them.

The Corsair is 80 Plus rated so it should run cool and draw less power from your AC outlet. The BFG is nearly as efficient.

Many other brands that are worth buying as well.

Just stay away from any PSU thats free after rebate or that only costs like $30 for 600 watts. They are junk.

regarding hard drives. I would like to run the two sata hard drives I currently own, and buy another 1Tb hard drive. Do all sata hard drives work in an osx86 machine? I found some for under 90 on newegg, can anyone tell me if they will work?

Yep, they will work. Sata is Sata, no problems there.

can someone choose a superdrive for me. the cheapest supported one on newegg?

Samsung 22x Sata DVDRW

I use the same one in my machine. Works perfectly with the built in disc burning in OS X, Toast, Burn and other apps. No problems and fairly quiet. No need to spend more than $25 for a drive.

thanks for the info.

and I would like to upgrade to a gtx 2__ or a radeon 4870 if either ever gets full support in snow leopard, will 550 watts be enough power?

For a single card, most certainly.

Now, if this was a Windows box running high end dual SLI or Crossfire video cards and a crazy overclocked CPU, then the answer would differ.

System looks good. Snow leo will bring support for all the new gpu's and its been reported that radeon 4800 gpu's will indeed work in 10.5.7 Go with the gigabyte board. 9600GT/9800GT > 3870 same prices just about.
