iRobie
I'm looking to build an mATX system. This post will make me look like I haven't been searching for a long time for the "perfect" motherboard, but oh well. It looks like each mATX MB has problems. Am I missing something? Are there any other mATX boards that aren't listed here. Perhaps because people don't talk about them because the "just work" Here's what I've found: P5E-VM: Sleep/Firewire issues? P5N7A-VM: Some say working, some say sleep not working DFI LanParty P45: USB & Sound don't work after sleep GA-E7AUM-DS2H: 18 pages of discussion... Not stable w 2+ gigs of ram without external video card Onboard sound doesn't work? Sleep problems? Barebones, like T3-P5945GCX: Not a lot of comments in forum? 945 chipset on Asus should work though... Here's what I'm looking for: Support at least 4 gigs ram (prefer 8 gigs) Working onboard video, sound (only need 2 channel), LAN Sleep working 100%. I like using my mac as alarm clock, so having sound working after waking would be nice. OC not required. Rather have easy install than OC. Firewire is nice, but not required. Synaesthesia
OK well if you want onboard video working, you are limited to the 945G boards with GMA 950 and the nVidia 9300/9400 boards. Of course the nVidia boards are much better in that regard. Their graphics are way more powerful, and they supports 16 gigs RAM - 945G boards don't support > 3gigs RAM! But 945G is decent if you're happy with a low-endish setup. I'm very happy with my G31M-S2L. It's cheap, overclocks well, works perfectly...only "issues" are it only supports 4 gigs RAM and you need an external Graphics card. But you can buy a cheap, silent nVidia 8400GS - problem solved It's now the EG31M-S2 or something. Another great board is the G33M-S2L, or Asus P5K-VM (if u can find - discontinued) - supports 8 gigs RAM. Again, needs GFX card. Looks like ppl have issues with the P5Q as well, otherwise it would be a great buy. stellarola
These are the REAL 100% working boards. People just don't know what the hell they are doing, that's all. Each of the boards below supports 100% working OOB Ethernet. That means AFP, Bonjour work without that damn R1000.kext. Both the GA-945 and the ASUS have 100% working onboard video. I guarantee these boards are by far the best MATX ones you can buy, if you can find them... Gigabyte GA-G33M-S2H Gigabyte GA-945GCMX-S2 ASUS P5N7A-VM Too much misinformation on this forum, someone needs to clean house! -Stell Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/152583-anyone-happy-with-matx-setup/#findComment-1077962 Share on other sites
iRobie
Thanks for the help! I've placed a bid on the GA-945GCMX-S2. I guess if I don't get that I'll get the G31M-ES2L. It's $50. I'd rather get that and an external card than spend $130 on a motherboard. Monkey Jam
would you still recommend these boards if on board video wasn't required? But I also need support for 4GB RAM (ideally 4 slots) 2 channel sound and a decent overclock... I was looking at the DFI as I don't need sleep. Side note: Stellarola, you seem to be in all the threads I am looking at, thanks for all the time and effort you have put in so far, it shows!! PS Has anyone tried DFI's 9400 board (DFI LP JR GF9400-T2RS)??
