Silverblue23
Ok guys, I really need your help here. I am planning on building a Mac Pro Hackintosh, but I need some help with the parts list. I have about a $1200 budget, and here are some of the specs that I would like to try to get. CPU-Quad-core, but having 2 of these is not necessary for me 8gb of DDR3 ram 2 Velociraptor HD in Raid 0, plus 1 tb HD for data and graphics card capable of 1080p HD video, and Photoshop, and light HD video editing So, there it is, as you can see, I need a good deal of help here. Would like a case similar looking to the Mac Pro case also. Please help me! I am going crazy, ready to order all of my parts. By the way, I will be photographing the whole process, as well as HD video of the build, and of the OSX install iMac 24" w/ 4gb ram, 2nd 21" Gateway HD LCD MSI Wind, 1.09, 24% OC, MAC OSX,10.5.6, with iLife 09'(retail box copies of Leopard, iLife 09') Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/152089-trying-to-build-my-own-mac-pro-hackintosh/ Share on other sites
Harloe
For a case I'd recommend a Lian-Li V2010 case. The aluminum one. A lot of space inside to work and provides great cooling! As well as having the space for about 8 hard drives! I can't really recommend any other components as I've never built a Hackintosh but if you wanted an 8 core machine I hear a fair few people go for the Intel Skulltrail motherboard (bit expensive) but you could place two Quad Core CPU's on that thing I think and you would have yourself an 8 core system. Don't hold me to that though. abscheele
I would recomend a gigabyte p45 mobo, a q9550 intel quadcore and a 9800gtx you could probably get all that for under 1200$ Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/152089-trying-to-build-my-own-mac-pro-hackintosh/#findComment-1075288 Share on other sites
Silverblue23
abscheele--- Ok, I was looking at the p45 earlier, can I do DDR3 ram with that one?, and I am going to go ahead and get the Q9550, and the 9800gtx, ordering those now. Are you quite sure that I will be able to install OSX on this setup? Want to make sure that I get it right..... I am also ordering 2 30" dell monitors on friday, so do you think that I will need a 2nd video card? or will the 1 9800gtx do it? I plan on putting at least 8gb of ram in also, with the 2 velociraptors, and one 1tb HD. I just really want everything to work as easily as the MSI Wind did......maybe that is wishful thinking? Thanks so much for everyones help!!!! JaE-V
Go with one of the Gigabyte EP45T based boards, they support ddr3. And yes, one 9800GTX/GTX+ will do but with that board you can run two if you'd like with EFI strings. Only software raid works at this time but you can get your stripe up and running with a little work. 9550 is a great buy. The IATKOS 5i disk will make the install easy for ya, i highly recommend. abscheele
If you use an efix you can use a standard retail install Alec Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/152089-trying-to-build-my-own-mac-pro-hackintosh/#findComment-1076459 Share on other sites

Silverblue23
Looks great man, what video card are you gonna go with? geforce 9800 for the card And, what power supply do you recommend? What wattage should I go with? More than 500W? Also, thinking of going ahead and ordering another 4gigs of the OCZ ram.... Oh, and instead of the Dell 30 inchers, I went with 2 HP 24" HDMI ready flat panels, they were just to good a deal to pass up, I got them for $299.99 each, so I saved some big bucks there, so that is why I was thinking to go ahead and grab the extra 4gb of ram Oh, and does anyone know anything about ZipZoomFly.com? Are they a good retailer? reliable, good return policy? abscheele
I dont know much about zipzoomfly, as for the power supply if you are using one 9800gtx an antec sonata 3 case and 500watt antec psu combo would work very well and again I still recomend using an efix they make the whole process much easier Alec Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/152089-trying-to-build-my-own-mac-pro-hackintosh/#findComment-1077615 Share on other sites
