Download17
Hey guys... what's up? I managed to get my audio working in 5.1 channel config. A few people have asked me how I got it working so here it is... (with pictures too!!) 1. Go in to Utilites (Command-Shift-U) and Select "Audio MIDI Setup". http://s46.photobucket.com/albums/f134/doc...w¤t=1.jpg 2. Once you are in Audio MIDI Setup select the second option in the drop down list labeled "Properties For:" as shown below. Note that both of these options have the same name (at least for me they did) but one is input and the other is output. http://s46.photobucket.com/albums/f134/doc...w¤t=2.jpg 3. Now you should see something similar to the picture shown below. Click on "Configure Speakers". http://s46.photobucket.com/albums/f134/doc...w¤t=3.jpg 4. At the top left of the new window that just opened up, select "Multichannel" instead of "Stereo". Under the Multichannel tab select the "5.1 Surround" option as shown. http://s46.photobucket.com/albums/f134/doc...w¤t=5.jpg 5. IMPORTANT!!! Now that you've selected a 5.1 configuration MAKE SURE THAT EACH SPEAKER IS CORRECTLY CONFIGURED!!! Do this by clicking on each of the boxes. This should create a hissing sound from that speaker. If the sound comes out of the wrong speaker change it's speaker number until it is correct. http://s46.photobucket.com/albums/f134/doc...w¤t=6.jpg 6. Now click "Apply" and then "Done". This should bring you back to the previous window. From here, under the "Audio Output" section select the "6ch-16bit" option, from the drop down menu as shown. http://s46.photobucket.com/albums/f134/doc...w¤t=4.jpg 7. There you have it!!! This should allow your Realtec ALC850 sound card work in a 5.1 configuration. Now I've only tested this with a movie playing in VLC Media Player and I haven't yet tested it for music... so Good Luck!!! Luke D. Hey... I just found out that VLC media player has 5.1 anyways... I still haven't tested it for anything else... I'll let you know what comes out of it... Luke D.

johnnytluxury
Meh, dude didnt really do nuffin, just explained how to get to the other side of the street by walking.. lol. BTW I have the same ssound, and I only get stereo option too, so guess this aint much for a "guide", lol.
Genix
I did this but it seems like two of my speakers don't work. I should say two of the channels don't work. Channel 3 and 5 make no hissing sound out of any speaker and I know for a fact that all my speakers work. It also never saves my settings that I set in step 5. You said VLC has 5.1 already in it? Does that mean it emulates it even for people with stereo or 2.1?

The others don't have any sound! I try with the VLC player also, 5.1 sound did not work! Only 2.0 sound works! (When play DVD Disc, two speakers - LEFT and RIGHT FRONT - have sound only, I can't hear the voice from characters!) Please let me know what happen!!! I use AC'97 sound onboard (5.1) code: ALC650 Thanks

Harley
Well, basically it works, but in weird way - speakers configuration resets (actually speakers binding change in random way) each time new media is played, f.e. next audio track in DVD, next song in iTunes ect. also only 48000 Hz is available and it can't be changed manually. this causes no sound in Quake3 :censored2:
