WUSB54GC: How to use new official driver & utility

Hopefully someone could find a solution on how to make this work with 10.6.4 hehe i have a WUSB54GC v1

Hey,

I've tried following the steps you gave, but with no success. I have a WUSG54GC v3 and running iATKOS SL 10.6.2. I Can see the adapter in the USB section of the system profiler:

Product ID: 0x0077

Vendor ID: 0x1737 (Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Inst.)

Version: 1.01

Serial Number: 1.0

Speed: Up to 480 Mb/sec

Manufacturer: Ralink

Location ID: 0xfd100000

Current Available (mA): 500

Current Required (mA): 450

But the wireless utility always says No Device!!. What did you mean by "click on "Network" and hit apply for the card to connect." ? maybe its on SL, but I dont see apply...

Edit: I tried installing the kext in E/E, but still nothing.

Edit: I tried installing the latest driver (RTUSB D71w-1.3.0.0_UI-2.0.0.0_2009_10_30.dmg), still nothing

Any help would be great thanks!

i finally got this working thanks to MustangSally's post on page 13:

i just downloaded the latest kext from the ralink site dated 05 12 2010. tested and working for me. here's the modded kext. downoad and install the lastest kext and utility from ralink, reboot and then replace with this modded one

i just downloaded the latest kext from the ralink site dated 05 12 2010. tested and working for me. here's the modded kext. downoad and install the lastest kext and utility from ralink, reboot and then replace with this modded one

After spending about 5 hours trying to manually install driver and setting permissions, cache clear etc, I finally tried Mustang Sally's kext and used Kext Utility and voila..........all worked like a charm. I am using v3 black dongle.

I can only assume by this thread slowing down that everyone's had success... I've just about given up...

Basically, I'm still getting the error th3lord was getting, even on manual kextload:

RT73USBWirelessDriver.kext failed to load - (libkern/kext) requested architecture/executable not found; check the system/kernel logs for errors or try kextutil(8).

I'm on a v1 dongle, running SL 10.6.4 in 64bit... I'm guessing that's what it means by architecture?

I've tried modified and unmodified .plists, even tried a few of the older versions (10.5 etc) and it throws up the same error every time, so I'm pretty sure it's not my editing...

Should I give up, or can anyone confirm they've a V1 running in 64bit?

UPDATE 1: I just dug out an old Belkin FSD7050 to try too... and the solution uses the same ralink drivers, without editing. So I downloaded the fresh pkg from ralink, and unpacked with pacifist. The kext in it won't load either, giving the same error! Guess I'm going to be in the market for a new adapter...

UPDATE 2: I've just managed to get both working. Downloaded the RAlink drivers from their website, noticed that they have belkin's productID wrong, changed it and the Belkin finally came to life. With new found confidence I copied Cosmyco's entry from above into the plist, ran webrabbit's permissions again, and now it works too!!!

Theres a night wasted, but I'm happy!

Snow Leopard booted in 64bit, i dont understand wireless usb can't use (no device in Ralink utility), i do everything follow "Utapez" on top topic but wireless not active, anyone succes with Snow leopard 10.6.0 - WUSB54GCv3 ?????help me

new on the ralink site RTUSBD2870-3.0.3.0UI-3.0.0.0_2010_09_10.dmg. get it here. install package and before rebooting replace RT2870USBWirelessDriver.kext with the modded. reboot repair permissions, configure the ralink utilitym launch net prefs - new network detected, done. sl 10.64 - 64 bit

Got mine working, albeit indirectly. Upgraded to 10.5.8 via wired Ethernet, swapped out v1 adapter for v3, installed driver manually with OSX86Tools, viola! Would've been nice to figure out what the previous problem was, but at least it's running.

Just my experience:

I have WUSB54GC Linksys (grey color).

In windows i have rt73.sys driver then i suppose it's a RT73 :-)

I downloaded from

http://www.ralinktech.com/support.php?s=3

this version:USB(RT257X/RT2671/RT2500)

I installed on my 10.5.5 ideneb and reboot.

Nothing.

Copied RT73USBWirelessDriver.kext from Extensions to my desktop and edited info.plist

Copy and paste one of the entries (Buffalo) and changed

<key>Cisco-Linksys</key>

idProduct --> 32

idVendor --> 5041

Saved the file.

Delete old version from extension folder

Install the modified kext with KextHelper

Reboot with -v -f

Open ralink utility and create my profile (ssid, wpa)

Open system preferences, network and there is a new port called Ethernet

Set manual ip address, gateway and dns

Open safari and browse the internet.

So, I must have tried absolutely everything and still no luck...

I'm using iAtkos's Snow Leopard 10.6.3

Intel Q9450 Quad Core, 6GB DDR2 memory (though I have to set maxmem=4096 for OSX to boot)

Absolutely everything works in my OSX install (even my obscure USB sound card and all my Windows drives) EXCEPT for my grey, version 1 Linksys WUSB54GC dongler.

I tried installing Ralink's drivers.... nothing.

I tried using Kext Helper (which appears to succeed then fail each time)

I even tried editing in the correct Product and Vendor information into the info.plist with zero success.

Once again, using Snow Leopard and trying to get this blasted dongle to work so I can find me some internets.

Thank you, any and all help will be greatly appreciated!

(oh, in Win 7 the driver shows up as netr7364.sys, if that means anything.)

So I guess hard work and perseverance really DOES pay off! I have officially gotten my WUSB54GC v1 working on Snow Leopard 10.6.5

How I did it:

- Download the latest USB(RT257X/RT2671/RT2500) Ralink drivers from:

http://www.ralinktech.com/support.php?s=3

- Install them

- Copy the file kext from /System/Library/Extensions/RT73USBWirelessDriver.kext to your desktop and then edit the Info.plist file, adding the following:

<string>RT2573USBWirelessDriver</string>

Wait until it is finished. Takes a while!

reboot

- and after a reboot, it started working.

Well, my dongle works perfectly now.

Even if I reboot it gets detected again, which is great.

Only one thing:

The utility opens each time Mac OS boots... Is there a way to hide the window that pops up? I already have the dock icon hidden, but I don't know if it is possible to hide the windows that opens every boot... Is it? Since it automatically connects to my network...

Sorry to revive an old threat but... I got the Linksys USB adapter working fine but now I am having kernel panics and restarting the computer all the time... Especially when there is a lot of network communication going on... Like when I am running torrents, sharing large files from one machine to another over the network, etc... Has anyone else experienced this when attempting to get this WiFi adapter working or using kexts in general?

Finally I got my WUSB54GC (v3, that's the black dongle) working. I have a iMac G4 (PPC) 10.41. The package that "Warstrong" provided simply did not work for me, the V3 Tiger package had dependency issues with the RT2780 driver and would not load so... I went to the Ralink site and downloaded the newest driver package, RT2780. It comes with a nice installer and I installed it. For me it still didn't work until I edited the RT2870USBWirelessDriver.kext. What I did was make a copy of RT2870USBWirelessDriver.kext and saved it to my desktop and edited its info.plist file with Text Editor. What needs to be done is to add this:

That magic number is "119" which is specific to dongle V3.

I added this new entry after the "Linksys - RT2870 - 2" entry.

I saved the file (info.plist) and dropped it (RT2870USBWirelessDriver.kext) on the Extensions folder (you will be asked for your password and if you really want to replace this file, yes you do).

Now you have to set the permissions exactly like *Warstrong* has stated at the beginning of this post. Reboot and enjoy. Hope this helps. Additionally I have experienced the signal being dropped (annoying and probably due to being in the basement and the router two floors away) I just replug in the dongle and it finds the signal again.
