It was troubling getting Leopard to work on a Dimension 2400 (modded, of course), but I found a configuration that worked. 10.5.2 seems to be the last version that will work with the Dimension 2400, but this hasn't been confirmed - anyone mind confirming it? (10.4.8 [JaS] and 10.5.2 [iATKOS 2.0i] work, 10.5.4 [JaS], 10.5.1 [Kalyway], 10.5.2 [Kalyway], Apple Updates 10.5.3-10.5.6 don't work.)

System Configuration

- 2.4 GHz Celeron CPU

- 1 GB RAM (upgraded from 256 MB)

- 200 GB Maxtor HDD (upgraded from 80 GB)

- Linksys WUSB54GC (RT73) - used Prasys' drivers - they work on Leopard as well

- Pioneer DVD-RW drive and non-functional CD drive (upgraded from 1 CD drive, no DVD drive)

- NVIDIA GeForce 6200 PCI Graphics Card from EVGA (upgraded from Intel 82845G Intergrated Graphics)

- 20" AOC monitor - model # 2016Swa - 1680x1050

- Micro Innovations wireless mouse - works out of the box

Installation

Snag yourself a copy of iATKOS 2.0i.

Boot from the DVD, format, whatever you need to do. For packages for the configuration above:

- CHECK X11

- UNCHECK Darwin Bootloader

- CHECK Darwin X86 for MBR (Non-EFI)

- CHECK DiskImageMounter.app patch

- CHECK 9.2.0 ToH Kernel

- CHECK the first SMBIOS (version 27 by netkas I believe) - VITAL for system speed!

- CHECK Natit

- CHECK NTFS-3G (optional - only check if you're dualbooting with Windows)

Install time - 25-45 minutes approx.

Your computer will then reboot. The Leopard firstboot screen will appear - beware it's a little laggy, the actual system won't normally be that laggy.

Congrats! You have Leopard on a Dell Dimension 2400!

UPDATE: Apple Update 10.5.3 - 10.5.6 work - it's a matter that deals with the kernel.

Open Terminal.app.

sudo -s

cp /mach_kernel /old

Simply do the usual update steps posted here on InsanelyMac, but don't restart.

Go back to your terminal.

cp /old /mach_kernel

chmod -R 755 /System/Library/Extensions

chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions

Exit Terminal.app.

Now, open Disk Utility and repair permissions. Then, reboot with -v - all should work.

This is such a relief someone that did hackintosh succesfully on dell demension 2400. I need your help. I just installed windows vista, i love it. Now im gonna dual boot leopard and vista with xXx Leopard beta ppf1. But i have no idea how to apply some patches to this iso(The patches are ppf2,ppf3 and i dont know how to apply them to my iso which already has update ppf1). Umm i really need help im kinda doing this the real impratical way. I have a 200 gb external hardrive. I also have one DVD RW and a CD burner. The DVD RW has my vista installation files and i dnt want to delete thos. So i think im going to have to back it up onto my c drive, then format the cd and burn leopard. I really want mac to work, specifaccly all my drivers. Such as my graphix card my speakers and my internet adapter. Im not sure whether i should partition my c: drive which has 170 GB left on it, so that vista and mac can share half each. Or i should just put Mac Os on my 200 gb removable hardrive and keep the C: drive to VISTA OS. Im a complete nub so i need your help!! Also once ive finished te dual booting process, what do you recomment: keep darwin boot loader to choose my OS upod boot up OR use Vista boot loader. And one more question, can i apply regular automatic updates to leopard, or no becuz its a hacked OS.

Thnx, and plx help !!

*bump*

I am looking to install macOSX on my dell dimension 2400. I've reviewed different installation methods but am unsure what the easiest and most reliable way for me to get osX on my dell dimension 2400 would be. The system is stock (http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/dim2400/en/sm_en/specs.htm) with a pentium 4 except I've upgraded ram and have a PCI graphics card on the way (PNY GeForce 8400GS 512M). Recommendations would be greatly appriciated. Do I use iPC, iDeneb, USB dongle, boot 1-2-3, factory install DVDs? Thanks.

I tried downloading iAtkos2.0i for my Dimension 2400 but it's just not working. Jas is even worse, it won't even boot.

I looked at the Specs given and mine are a bit different.

I have a Pentium 4 instead of a Celeron, an LG instead of Pioneer disk drive. I also have a WD hard drive, and a different video card.

Now, I don't think really much of these could be making a difference except for the video card.

I can't even purchase the one given because my Dimension was built without and PCI-E slot to be able to host a video card like that.

Has anyone successfully installed mac and a model of the 2400 with a different video card?

And, to let you know how it goes on boot up, everything seems to run fine, I am able to cuntomize the install, it starts installing and about 80% through, it quits with an error saying that the boot disc is damaged (which it is not.)

Has anyone else had this problem or one similar with the 2400?

My 2400 is dead so I won't be able to actually test anything.

But the video card was a PCI video card... I got it from Circuit City back in June-July 2008 before they closed.

If it says that the boot disc is damaged and you're in the installer, that means that the DVD is damaged or you likely got a corrupt ISO.

I keep getting "You need to restart your computer" message after installing "Mac OS X 10.4.8 [JaS AMD-Intel-SSE2-SSE3 with PPF1 & PPF2]"

It's the only one that will even get to the apple loading screen.

Dell Dimension 2400

Intel Celeron 2.4Ghz

Northbridge Intel i845G rev. A1

Southbridge Intel 82801DB (ICH4) rev. 01

Memory Type DDR

Memory Size 1536 MBytes

BIOS A05

Display Adapter

Intel® 82845G/GL/GE/PE/GV Graphics Controller

NVIDIA GeForce2 MX 100/200

I've tried every variation under the install options, nothing helps.

I do have a retail disc of OS x 10.6, but none of the newer tutorials seemed to work either.

think I made some progress using IPC, I just need help selecting the right options

Can anyone give me some guidance?

####UPDATE###

got it to work by using the onboard video, although it only shows about 2 colors at a really small resolution. After searching this is an issue with all dell computers like mine. I think if I can get the right drivers for my PCI video card this thing should work. As of right now it takes forever to load, when it does my montior shuts off and my keyboard lights up.

Anyone know how to get a NVIDIA GeForce2 MX 100/200 to work? I tried installing with Legacy Geforce driver as shown above and that didn't help at all.

Hi, would this still work with the new iAktos s3 Snow Leopard release or is it limited to iAktos version 2?

Also, would iPC 10.5.6 work?

I'm planning on buying a Nvidia 6200 to make this work as i've seen the integrated 845 graphics are useless so i just want to make sure.

I really need an answer because i can't find iAktos 2.0 on the internet, there's only version 4 and up and i'd like to know if those would work aswell.

I've gotten Leopard to run on my 2400... but the mouse cursor always disappears once the OS boots. The mouse still works and I can select things with it, but it's just invisible.

Any ideas?
