I've managed to get extended desktop, unfortunately internal display is still without backlight and with external's EDID. Screens:

While I really dont get how to pull and change EDID stuff (I'm trying to read on it now) - this looks like you've made at least some sort of progress.

I decided to take a detour to apple's own support forums and came accross this:

"sudo pmset -a lidwake 0"

Apple users were having a "black screen" problem where it would do basically the same thing - computer would wake from sleep and hard drives would come on - but the backlight wouldn't kick in - so they were saying they had to do a variety of things - some found this to be the solution.

Aparently that forced the "sleep when lid is closed" and "wake when lid is open" feature to "off" (1 instead of 0 turns it back on).

They said to test if it worked, they closed the lid, put the computer to sleep, and then opened the display and it should not wake up, then you should have to press a key to wake it up. From what I gather though, its not even detecting as a laptop diaplay, so I doubt it'll fix it for you, just a shot in the dark for you.

Others said they had to remove usb mice, then put it to sleep and wake it up - just getting the "mac" problems out of the way first.

Also note, Aidass is using the 2400, which is basically a "supported" card more or less, and is not the same as the 3600 mobility, so while I'm glad he's making progress, his problems and solutions will probably not be our problems and solutions - so please don't get confused when we are talking about progress for a 3600 mobility and someone with a completely different card chimes in with success

From another great thread that goes over framebuffers, I see that:

ATY_Megalodon : RV670 XT [ATI Radeon HD 3870]

Used on mac pro, sold by AMD in PC/Mac version

head 1 : DVI+VGA

head 2 : DVI+VGA

@Aidass, or anyone else out there who can please help me out here ^^

Megalodon is a driver that is only built for DVI+VGA - so why does it work with YannickD's internal laptop display? Is the limitation of DVI+VGA overcome somehow? I see your name pop up in the thread I pulled that megalodon information from Aidass, so if there is any chance you could shed some light for me I would appreciate it! I'm downloading some newer distributions and am willing to try some things to get everything going again if I can learn enough to have new things worthy of trying - I will not however, try if I don't have some good things to start from that I have never tried before (I'll be wiping my current render machine to do this if so which will suck).

A few things:

EDID - I dont really understand the importance of this, how to work with it, or how to implement "new" EDIDs. From what I have read I see they EDID's by definition are "Extended display identification data (EDID) is a data structures provided by a computer display to describe its capabilities to a graphics card". And it looks like if I have windows installed I can pull the EDID from working display via a windows application (it looks like a lot of people use the program 'moninfo'?). I then can somehow take that EDID information from, lets say, Moninfo, export it as text, copy a text-block from it, and paste it into Natit (or other similar injectors) as a key - and it will give OSX and my graphics card instructions on what to do with the monitor and enable its features (backlight etc)? Am I on track here?

Natit - Where would I put the EDID information (that I can presumably pull from moninfo on windows) inside Natit to make it function properly, the natit plist I have is huge (the one from test 2 at the start of this thread) and I dont know where it would go.

Finally - will any of this even help? Is what I just described above able to 'enable' the internal laptop display, and would it actually allow me to run osx on my laptop display with hardware acceleration? If not what is the point of this all because I think I am completely missing it! Is this a lost cause with the megalodon driver because of our internal display, and somehow YannikD's internal display is hooked up differently and registers as a "regular" dvi/vga monitor and thats why his works? Is there any way we can fake that to OSX if so - or are we forever doomed to non qe/ci in our laptops?

Also - I am very much a visual learner, I am a graphic artist and video editor - because these are also the ways I perfer to teach - if there are already visual step-by-steps of these things - please direct me to them ^^

Nice, so we now have to find what in this Toshiba laptop makes Megalodon send signal to the internal display instead of external as on all the HD2XXX mobility...

I also want to point out that for the moment this HD3650 mobility success (Toshiba) and half success (IcemanPT) doesn't bring anything for HD34XX mobility cards :)

He is on the A300-10g Toshiba and no external display was connected

well it is a good place to collect the info on why it works and what won't at least now we have more than one instance even if it is on the same laptop

A question was raised on if these laptops used mxm cards instead of intergrated

Just tried without success on my laptop, installed package on iDeneb 1.3 (10.5.5) and the screen goes blank, not black but blank.

Tried also with external LCD monitor, seems that there are no signal.

I restarted with -v -x and the signal arrived to the external LCD, too, but blank screens on both the monitor.

After i have been looking somemore into this after the sucess from one more 3650m users i am still secpitc but not as much as before..

but i think Toshiba have done some cheap ass solution with the gfx on the A300... I havent been able to find any pictures of the A300 mobo online so i cant say how it is build If any of the A300 users that get the 3650 card to work dare to open the laptop and send me a couple of pictures of the mobo i will be wary happy...

But i have a feeling that toshiba might be connection the internel screen to an dvi connector.. so the signal runs tru an converter. If this is the case it might explain why the only success are on thoshiba's... and that it will proberly only work on toshibas... What do your guys think about making a request after toshiba users in a new tread and here i think on toshiba users with 3450, 3650 and 3670 mobility cards...

Anyone have a possible solution for my little problem with internal monitor??

Try the drivers here: http://www.sendspace.com/file/4gfz6b

Remove all ATI drivers in Extensions first... and then use the ones provided there...

then cross your fingers becouse if you are lucky you will have an working 3650m and if not it just proves one again that the toshiba card is not like the other cards.

Hmmmmm ... it's been suggested before in this thread that you might need 10.5.6 in order to gain access the newly released framebuffers from Apple, even though one post may contradict that. Are you in a position to upgrade?

Yes, I get blue screen

I got a point:

With ATY,Iago.kext

When enter system, mobility HD2400&2600 need connect external display on dvi. Then can make internal monitor working

I have a mobility hd2600,but i haven't a external display on dvi. Need someone to test my idea.

BTW, i use Asue laptop. Aidass use asus too

I just wanted to try because I planned to test on my laptop some other OS (Vista 64, Windows 7) and wait for a 10.5.6 release, but I can download a 10.5.6 (any suggestion?) release and try again before.

I have only one problem: i tried iatkos, Kaly, Leo4all and iPC 10.5.5 releases and none of them worked on my laptop.

Don'y know why, but iDeneb is the only working relaese that I can install.

However, if you think i must try a specific release let me know and i will try, it will take me some day to download it, but I can do some testing on my laptop before going on with my plans.

Do you disable internal screen on system loading? (fn+f8 twice)

I also have a HP 8530p laptop (T9400, mobility HD 3650, devid 9591)

First I installed a driver package from here http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=107526 but no success (garbage pattern on screen).

Then I installed this package from sendspace and right now I have full res switch, QE, CI, playing Doom3 on ultrahigh quality :-) but as you probably know, only on external VGA monitor. To activate external monitor I had to Fn-switch the active screen to external at BIOS/bootloader prompt first, to get the system to startup on the external screen instead of internal LCD (which would otherwise just go black after startup).

System profiler screenshot attached.

So the acceleration support is working, just to get this display recognition worked-out and I am a happy man. :-)
