Guys, i've a little problem

i've reinstalled osx wit DD 3.7 script and now my video card work out of box...

the problem is that not working CI and QE on my 9800 gt

in my previous installation for the video card i had to use the efi string, and it was a good solution...cause OOTB she did not work

now I wont to use this solution, but I can not find the injectors from netkas...i try to remove it from installation /kext/_graphics/_repository, i've reinstalled ...but did not change anything...

Help me please

tNx in advance

Hi Iktus,

You have to make sure you're removing it from /Volumes/YOUR_BOOT_DRIVE/Extra/Stored_Kexts/. You'll most likely be removing ATY_init.kext which is the default universal injector used by 3.7.

Once you do that you have to make sure that the boot cache (in /Volumes/YOUR_BOOT_DRIVE/Extra/Extensions.mkext) is also updated using: kextcache -a i386 -m "/Volumes/YOUR_BOOT_DRIVE/Extra/Extensions.mkext" "/Volumes/YOUR_BOOT_DRIVE/Extra/Stored_Kexts".

You can do both steps above using the 3.7 installer, just make sure you move ATY_init.kext that's found in the script's folder to the _repository directory of the same and run the kext/kernel installer (option #5) which will also update the boot cache.

Best regards,

Hisham

Ok, I've followed the instructions and have everything working. Only I keep getting told I need to restart. Is this a kernel panic? Is there a log file that can point to the problem so it can be fixed and can someone help me find the problem/fix it?

A lot to ask I know but I'm at a loss!

UD5, i7 920, 6GB, 4850.

TIA!

I had my previous setup working fine, which was having Kalyway on a separate hard drive as my installer, from which I ran DD's script onto a separate target hard drive.

I wanted to try a new setup, but couldn't get it to work. The computer crashes shortly after the bios loads. I reformatted all my drives and did the following:

1. Installed Windows 7 onto a separate hard drive.

2. Made my other hard drive into 2 partitions. A small partition for Kalyway and a larger partition for OS X 10.5.7. Installed OS X, ran DD's script.

Any suggestions on how I can get this setup working with the Chamaleon bootloader? If Windows 7 can't work, is it possible to get Windows XP working on a separate hard drive? Thanks.

I have win 7 on a separate disk and chameleon boots into it just fine. You may try skipping chameleon and using the bios keyboard command to choose your boot volume prior to chameleon initializing.

I'm not sure its advisable to have kalyway and 10.5.7 on the same physical disk.... that may be the source of your woes.

i only know of istat and temperature monitor.

what are others?

I like Hardware Monitor from http://www.bresink.com/osx/216202/download.html

I made a few mistakes bringing up the system. I was plugged into ethernet2. I was happily surfing the web but it seemed a bit slow. Then I noticed that in fact ethernet 2 was not working (said cable not connected) and I had been connecting and surfing courtesy of Bluetooth PAN!

Next thing I noticed, a cable was wedged against my CPU fan! The heatsink was quite hot. Anyway, now the fan is spinning, and I'm using ethernet1. Next is to get the 8800GT happy, or maybe just swap in an ATI 4830.

If the system stays up long enough, run Console and look around in the logs it shows you. When you say you followed the instructions, could you be more specific? Did you do it all on one machine or did you use a second machine to prepare the hard disk.

hisham_dell,

The only thing that can cause the permission changes NOT to be honored is if the "Ignore ownership on this volume" is turned ON. Make sure it is OFF. Get Info on volume, bottom of Sharing & Permissions, deselect that button.

Although it should not be disabled, an installer may activate ownership just as a precaution. My script attempts to do the same - activate on-disk ownership just in case it is disabled for some reason. I'll have to be more aggressive in checking on this flag anytime permissions are involved.

regards,

MAJ

EDIT: Sometimes this volume ownership issue can occur when it is plugged in as a USB drive.

Hi DD, I've managed to overcome the problem by just using another install of Kalyway. Seems to have solved the issue. The Extensions.mkext got created and all is well. I think my original Kalyway install was borked which led to erroneous permission handling.

FWIW, I've attached the install.log from the problematic install.

Best regards and thanks for all the hard work!

Hisham

By the instructions I mean ran the script from my iAtkos install on one hdd and installed 10.5.6 on a different hdd (all on the ud5 machine) then updated to 10.5.7 with the combo update then added the new natit kext and the framebuffer fix for my 4850. Then completed the remaining steps of the script. I've been looking at how to troubleshoot kps so I'll check the panic.log tonight and post more. Thanks

As I understand hackintoshes don't save panic.log files to the PRAM after a KP so you won't find anything in the log.

Can someone confirm this?

MAJ,

Thanks for all of your hard work, version 3.7 of the script is terrific. I finally bit the bullet and switched from my Wolfie 10.5.7 setup and everything went flawlessly. I even tried using the built in Migration Assistant to see what would happen and it worked without a hitch. I the EFI version of the script will be icing on the cake once it's completed.

Run Console and look through the various message categories for anything strange. So you ran the 3.7 script? Were you booted off the new disk before you updated the DSDT in step 7? You gotta read back through the last 10 pages of messages. 3.7 uses a new netkas which is supposed to automatically handle almost every graphics card. Or just try installing again, people in this thread install dozens of times. You got to give more information. Put your hardware config in your signature. You used dd's 3.7 script and picked Chameleon 3.7? You did it like in this post? http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...05&st=1520#

Ethernet ports not working - Solution

If any of you guys experienced the Ethernet ports on the EX58-UD5 not working (even in Windows or the BIOS screen which shows the MAC Address (they'll be zeroed)) don't despair.

http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showpo...;postcount=1014

Just clear the CMOS using the button on the back of the motherboard, unplug power cord, press the button another 50 or so times :P I did it and it solved the problem.

Thought I'd share it here since this is after all an ex58-ud5-centric topic.

Good luck,

Hisham

This also works for the EX58-UD3R

I was still on the old first install when I ran DSDT patcher, should this be done from the new install?

I've left it on over the weekend while I'm away to see if it happens without me running any programs.

It's a ud5 mainboard, ati 4850 (passive), win7 on sata hdd, Iatkos 10.5.2 on IDE hdd>osx using script 3.7 on IDE hdd> osx using script 3.7 on sata. I'll write up my install method on Monday when I'm not posting from my phone! Appreciate the help so far!

Hello folks.. thanks digital_dreamer for the GUIDE...

I have some problems with my setup .. i did exactly what is said but after booting from the osx 10.5.6 retail installation my computer automatically restarts right after darwin.

This happened with iATKOS 5i which also on 10.5.6

I tried the following options to boot from darwin: -x , cpus=1 .. etc but nothing except using the cpus=1 get in the white logo and holds there, in the place of mouse there is a cross (X) in the middle of the page but not able to move it..

BUT using Kalyway 10.5.2 there is no problem but it can recognise 4 cores only..

Does anybody experienced with that? What do you suggest?

My computer specifications are the following:

Motherboard Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD5

Intel i7 core

DVDs are both SATA

WD 1TB , WD 640GB

XFX 9800 GT

Thank you in advance

Get your IDE drive out of the system once its done its job. Boot only off the new system, only use SATA.

I know the DSDT has to be run on the target machine. If step 7 let you point it at the target HDD then maybe you are fine.

as i said above i did try all the booting options.. e.g -x ,cpus=1, busratio=20 .. and all the other combinations but still cannot boot up...

i get this message even if i boot with busratio=20:

attempting to Determine CPU multiplier

Determined CPU: FSB multiplier to be 0

Says 0 but makes no sense... the kernel as shipped by apple will not support this and will cause the machine to reboot immediatly... Press y to continue or crt, alt, del to reboot.

if you hit y it again flashes the grey screen and then reboots.

any help will be appriceated...

Thanks again!

Sounds like your problem is with using the 10.5.6? Retail? disk. It does not sound like you are performing a Vanilla installation. Sounds like you are using a 10.5.6 disk shipped for a specific Apple computer, and iMac, or Macbook. I tried this earlier and experienced the same problem.

You need a 10.5.0 retail disk (not shipped with an Apple PC) to begin the Vanilla install. Then download the bulk updater to 10.5.6 or 10.5.7 with DD's script to achieve success.

I also recommend that you read the entire thread to learn the history of how DD's work evolved, and learn more about what you are doing in the process and learn much further how to help yourself and others.

You will find that you will evolve from saying, "This doesn't work, what do I do next, thanks in advance." To asking more questions, "What's S/L/E?" and how does "/Extra" make use of my KExts. "How do I change the KExt for my video card?" Its all here, read through the history and in the end you will save more time rather than waiting for responses.

I managed to fix the problem before you posted this ...! thanks anyway...

This is what i have done..

1.) Installed Kalyway 10.5.2..

2.) Used digatals_dreamer way to install OSX 10.5.6 Retail to another HD

3.) Install iDeneb 10.5.7 combo update to kalyway 10.5.2

4.) Booted from Kalyway 10.5.7 ( iDeneb update)

5.) Downloaded 10.5.7 combo update from Apple and installed it on the HD where the retail Osx 10.5.6 was

6.) Made this HD as primary HD and formated the kalyway!

Voila!

But now seems to having problem with the network card, i manually installed the Realtek1000 kexts but does not seem to be working, i am on it now trying to figure what's going wrong.. trying to fix it.. i am using digital dreamers patch and also UInstaller..

Inside that IONetworkingFamily.kext is a Plugins folder that should contain the LAN driver, RealtekR1000.kext.

How did the RealtekR1000.kext get installed into S/L/E?

The correct installation would be to install the modified IONetworkingFamily.kext, which contains the RealtekR1000.kext, into /Extra, and remove the RealtekR1000.kext from S/L/E. This should leave a working setup with a vanilla install.

Ok, I used the "RUN-PATCH_INSTALLER" to move the IONetworkingFamily.kext back to /Extra and I then noticed that S/L/E still had a IONetworkingFamily.kext file in there, i doubt it's the same one, Should I delete it or just leave it there? I also tried to clear the CMOS and I did, no OC settings everything stock and just changed the sata to AHCI and booted and nothing. Time Machine is still not backing up, it still fails to back up. Btw, I'm not sure if this is important, but I'm not using Chameleon v2.0 I'm still using the stable one according to "RUN-PATCH_INSTALLER"

First off.. Thanks for all the contributions DD and others. This is now my 6th or 7th build (hackintosh addiction?) and it's a blast.

My latest build is on the GA-EX58-UD5, using the vanilla (retail 10.5.6 & combo update to 10.5.7) followed by DDs script.

Everything is working perfectly, but the video card (EN8800GTS) has no QE/CI. I have tried every tutorial I could find.

Tried EFI Studio and placed strings in com.apple.Boot.plist, card reports correctly in 'about this' but no QE/CI.

Tried gfxutil to create my own from scratch, no dice.

Removed ATY_Init and added wither NVKush, or NVInject, neither give QE/CI (both report correct in 'about this mac' screens).

I even tried installing 9f23 Nvidia installer (after removing Ge* and NV* from /s/l/e). I get 1024x768 then, so I reverted.

Is there another method I can try that I am not thinking of to get this working? The card worked awesome with my older Q9550 on a Maximus Extreme w/ XxX 10.5.6.

Any input would be awesome, I am lost for ideas hehe.

Thanks!
