digital_dreamer
I didn't reinstall yet. This is the actual partion I tried to boot with yesterday. What should I try now ? I mean, why should I reinstall again with setting I know from dont work ? What is your advice ? Should I try to install a distro on my i7 and install the retail install from there ? Would that make a difference ? From where I'm standing, I don't have a clear answer to what's wrong. It's hard to troubleshoot something long distance. Many things at play here. But, one thing is for sure: the method and install procedure works. But, there are a lot of little details that can easily be overlooked or ignored. Happens all the time. I do it plenty of times. That's why we keep at it until we are successful. You could install a distro, as that would provide you two things: (1) a working system and (2) a maintenance drive to work from, instead of swapping drives with another system. This will help reduce the pain. Got nothing to lose but time. Or, you can give it another reinstall. Should only take 30 minutes tops, or 15 minutes if you rush. regards, MAJ

iTestTube
psst. dreamer. u have any clues for me about how to get diskutility to make a raid. mangopeach, I've seen this problem with my recent DD install also. And I've seen it with 9.6.3, 9.6.0 also. Haven't tried the voodoo kernels yet. Here's what I did to fix it. Funny, I'm eating a mango now, champagne, its really good. 1. Create the RAID array just like you have and let it error out. 2. Reboot. 3. Delete the RAID array. Recreate the RAID array. Done. I haven't been successful with booting the my Striped RAID array yet. I like the simple and clear process outlined in using the /Extra folder Chameleon and DD's script. Copying the /Extra folders to the "Boot" drives is just as complicated as using the EFI partition. I digress. Not to mention my attention span is Oh look! A Chicken... DD, I am going doing a full reinstall right now share all the steps I followed and will share the results. <Install process> and the system continues to hang hmmm. Your install process appears to cover all the necessary details. It's detailed in all the necessary areas. The fact that the 1600Mhz variable is still in the log leads me to believe the bootloader just isn't loading from /Extra, unless that variable is inside the AppleSMBIOS.kext in /Extra. Is there evidence from the log that it's loading Extensions from /Extra or just S/L/E? On the other hand, if it wasn't loading anything from /Extra, I think you'd get a KP in the log, as the Disabler.kext wouldn't be loading and blacklisting the AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext. Is anyone else coming to the same conclusions as I am that the bootloader is not consistently loading from /Extra or is having problems loading the latest version of the System.kext? Have you tried coping the matching System.kext to S/L/E? I'm curious regarding that possible solution. EDIT: Can you boot with the -x flag at the prompt? (as per recent post on this issue). worthingtoni
Wow, this thread grows very fast. However about the USB issue, placing the System.kext in /S/L/E did the trick for me. I've got another issue as well. When I'm clicking on a mp3 link in either Safari or Firefox and Quicktime loads in the browser, the browser sometimes stops to respond and eventually forces me to do a hard reset. I think this problem only occur when Quicktime is working together with a web browser but I'm not absolutely sure. Anyone else got this same problem? I got this problem earlier as well with my old Core2Duo Hackintosh so probably it's not a specific thing for this mobo. Jon
sdstever
You probably got the infamous dead LAN, I got that twice this week as I was testing BIOS settings. You'll need to shut off system and unplug for 10 seconds or so. Or, you can clear the CMOS. If you do the CMOS clear, make sure you saved your BIOS settings, so you can reloaded them. MAJ Yep, that did the trick! Now I've got my system almost 100% working. Slight issue with the video card... It's a GeForce 9800 GT 512 mb DDR3. I can't get it to recognize quartz extreme. I also don't have the fancy translucent menus, but I think that might be related to the QE. I've attached what System Profiler is giving me. I've tried swapping out NVinject and NVkush... had to reformat the EFI a couple times. Any ideas on this one? MAJ Correct me if I am wrong but the issues at hand seem to be caused by the new Chameleon bootloader, not necessarily the kexts. So when you say the 'original kexts' from the boot132 setup are you referring to an outdated setup in comparison to the kexts being used now? and another question, can PC-EFI v9 boot the 9.7.0 kernel? Personally I don't feel the Chameleon bootloader offers much over PC-EFI v9 besides the fancy boot menu, which one can simply use their f12 bios boot menu, the boot graphics, which can't be used in corespondance with sometimes required bootflags (-f needed for ATI 48x0 cards), and the /Extra feature which doesn't seem to work anyway. Here are the UD5_boot-132 kexts. Install them in S/L/E and make sure permissions are repaired or fixed. I have included various kernels and their matching System.kext, so make sure that matching System.kext gets installed, as well. It would be best not to install these on a live system, but if you like to live on the edge, you can certainly try. These are for Crash4419, garhunie, neils and anyone else not having success with the kexts installed in /Extra. Again, these should be installed in S/L/E. Many of them will replace the vanilla version of the same name. Make sure permissions are repaired. This will give you the same setup as before and still retain the use of the new bootloader. best regards, MAJ
