tstm
I did a fresh SL install on a dual-partitioned drive (first visible partition being the old 10.5.6 install and the second one being the new SL one) I followed the instructions and got it to boot - once. After I completed the steps of selecting 8, 9, 10 and 11 to go to /Extra and rebooted, I'm greeted with the following lines on boot: ACPI_SMC_PlatformPlugin::start - waitForService(resourceMatching(AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement) timed out Kext com.apple.Dont_Steal_Mac_OS_X module stop pointer is outside of kext range (stop 0x77846053 - kext at 0x81eed000-0x81ef3000).. Kext com.apple.Dont_Steal_Mac_OS_X can't unload - module stop returned 0xdc008007 Im thinking dsmos.kext is having some kind of issues? It does load (gives some success info to the console) but it doesn't seem to work.
sh269
Update... Since no one answered my questions, I decided it was best to follow DD scripts and reinstall OSX on the EX58 motherboard. Though I did need my original EFIX install to do this successfully since 10.4 could not run the scripts in order to install Leopard on a secondary device. To my pleasant surprise it worked flawlessly. Well... almost. Everything is working on the motherboard except for one thing. My FW800 card from SIIG. So my question is, does anyone know of a way to get this to work? For the time being, everything else works. On board LAN works, eSATA ports work. Just not the SIIG FW800. So if anyone could point me in the direction to get this card to work, I would be very grateful! Thanks!

LeifErikson
Per my post 2 pages back: TRENDnet Gig ethernet card for cheapskates - 12 bucks Card works natively with Snow Leo 32/64 bit no extra kexts. nice! but sadly, my only available PCI slot is occupied by my USB card and the other slot is being blocked by my GPU Update your bios man. I heard people saying the ethernet ports were buggy and sometimes stopped working in early bios versions. If the bios update doesn't fix it then press the button on the back to reset the cmos and that should fix it. I had F8 updated to F9E, which is the latest I saw on the site. Updated and I got 10.*.*.* IPs, still no net. but both ports say they're connected. I reset the CMOS, and then I got self assigned IPs, rebooted and back to 10.--- IPs Edit: I disconnected my ethernet cables and OSX still said "Connected" with a 10. IP and a 255.255.255.0 subnet mask and no router IP. then I left my cables disconnected, rebooted and it still remains the same.., that's weird and lame
edvardlee
- I've long advocated that the DD script be modified to use on other motherboards. - Guess 1: the DD script itself doesn't need to be modified, just the folders full of kexts. - Guess 2: the dsdt utility would work on these other motherboards. Not clear to me why blackOSX uses this complicated process involving Koalala's ACPI patcher, while DD just invokes a program that creates the dsdt.aml in one shot. - If there is enough interest I suggest we start another thread for this. Please reply, or start the thread, if you are interested. Though maybe this is the wrong place to ask. - This current thread is already very long. To some degree discussion of non- UD5/Gigabyte/i7 motherboards has been tolerated. Maybe not as enthusiastically, or at least, there are far fewer people who own those motherboards, at least reading this thread. - I tried to get my EP35-DS3P to work using the DD script. Got SL to install once I unchecked printers and languages. Tried using the dsdt utility, EFI string graphics, and the same set of kexts that blackOSX uses for the EP45-DS3, but I get the same kernel panic during boot. - To answer your initial question, one sanity check for graphics is to look at Apple Menu... About This Mac... More info... Graphics/Displays and see if Quartz Extreme says Supported. - Am I right here that with other motherboards on can simply go through the (SL) DD script including dsdt, at which point its mostly a matter of retrying different subsets of kexts until it works? Hello there, i would be delighted to have a thread for this DFI lan party Jr T3H6 mobo. but i can verify here everything works with the same exact kexts that DD supplies. the only one that does not work is Sound (HDA enabler) i just used voodoo.hda and i have high end audio interface cards. I have heard in SL, they don't show QE and CI in system profile. or maybe it doesn't show for me because it's not supported. If anybody has a way to get ati 3870 to work with QE CI support pls post! i can't imagine why it works flawlessly on 10.5.8 but not SL? it has to be a kext driver thing and not how SL is supported. netkas has remained very silent about this too for some reason. I guess i'm gonna have to get 4870 or wait out till a new patched natit arrives. I also tried GEforce 9800 GT but could not get it to work. i did EFI strings via DD's kext. but i get a "error parsing plist" on bootloader. any ideas? Yo Maj, Your mailbox was full for a couple of days so hopefully this gets through. I did get help from the forums posting there and maybe you saw it. So the post is here again, that means your mailbox is still full! I gave up on trying to get the 3870 to work. i got it to boot but no QE CI support. i went over to microcenter and got a geforce 9800 GT. So i followed a couple of methods to get it working. All of them point towards getting an EFI string and sticking it in the boot.apple.com.plist. 1) got my efi string through aqua mac's tutorial. (i'm assuming you know what is) 2) also tried it the efi string from your script. 3) attached the efi string using your script 4) also tried attaching efi string using osx utility Of course these were not done at the same time. but on seperate installs. The card boots up but i get no QE CI and on bootloader i get "error parsing plist" I have heard hat the 4870 card has a more convenient install method. maybe u can let me know how if you know? they are about the same price and i do prefer ATI cards. Somebody talked about just replacing device ID in 4800.kext and installing evo.enabler? can anybody verify that and maybe give better instructions? I have gotten sound working with an updated vodoo.hda and i don't use ethernet. so now everything works! except darn old Graphics card. hope u can help me out. MC_Junkie
Yes I want to try this, but I am a relative newbie so this is what I have done so far. Formated 8gb stick and copied over your boot stick Got as far as DMI pool. What are the bios settings for this install? Anybody want to try my USB stick image for GA-EX58-UD5 for Snowleopard 10.6 Build 10A432? You can download it here: http://www.snowx86.com/downloads/Boot.dmg I've never done this before, but I think you should be able to restore this image on a USB stick with Disk Utility. What's working: - GA-EX85-UD5 - Sound with DSDT patch found in this thread (thanks Aschar) - ATI cards (ATY_init by Netkas) - Ethernet - Reboot / Shutdown (didn't try sleep) Don't forget this step:

Try testing your ethernet cable on another machine that you know has working ethernet and see what happens. Did your ethernet ever work? Try 'help'. fdisk: 1> Is there any way to go around this issue for now? The "could not open MBR file" error is meaningless, as we are not writing with a new MBR file, but merely editing existing MBR sectors. EDIT: I'll add that the error simply states that the boot code isn't available for writing Intel bootable partitions. Apple doesn't use that code anyway, as the EFI boot code is built into the firmware. As for the "Invalid command 'y'" error, fdisk is in 'interactive' mode. If the partition you are wishing to set active is not able to unmount, fdisk will ask if you want to write the update anyway, at which point we would say "yes" with a 'y'. However, because the partition was able to successfully unmount, the "yes" response is invalid in this case and, therefore, ignored. I try to cover all cases. There's nothing wrong with this log. Are you experiencing issues with setting a partition active? Hi Digital_Dreamer, are you gonna build support for the Chameleon RC3 in your script? It's already included. tstm
There's nothing wrong with this log. Are you experiencing issues with setting a partition active? I found the bug in the script that was causing problems. The unmount_EFI() function did not properly unmount the EFI partition in SL, and thus the rm -rf command in the same function deleted the whole directory and all contents. What I did, was change the row umount /Volumes/EFI > "$TEST_LOG" 2>&1 to: diskutil unmount /Volumes/EFI > "$TEST_LOG" 2>&1 and got significantly further. I still have some issues with graphics (Radeon 4870). The SL installation sounds come up fine (and it responds to keyboard etc), but the screen stays at the verbose command prompt.. Is there a limit to just one topic per user, or something? MAJ tstm, Thanks for your comments. That issue has been fixed a while back and is the result of not forcing the unmount when it fails. I don't know of anyone using the 'diskutil unmount' command for the EFI partition. The 'umount' is lightweight and incredibly quick, which is rather valuable when you have to check for the existence of a boot.plist in all EFI partitions on a system without a noticeable delay. morganpl
MAY sorry, may be poorly expressed .... I began to learn about editing DSDT and add the hacks to handle ALC889A, 8111D, and graphics card for my/our EX58-UD5. I read that, I need to add DTGP Method in DSDT, because without the hacks for video, net, audio, etc. will not work. I edited the DSDT from /Extra and did not find DTGP. Is this from Snow Leopard? You probably need a disabler that includes a blacklist for the AppleUpstreamUserClient.kext, or you can just delete it from S/L/E. regards, MAJ I downloaded THIS kext, but after adding the system had lost my network card (in general was not present). After throwing kexta update the boot cache, restart, the situation has not changed. Switched off the computer, disconnected the power, and repeatedly pressed the POWER. When I restart, network card to work properly obtained and renewed the IP from router (DHCP with static IP assignment) I turned off kest from terminal: sudo -s kextunload /System/Library/Extensions/AppleUpstreamUserClient.kext/ mv /System/Library/Extensions/AppleUpstreamUserClient.kext/ /System/Library/Extensions/AppleUpstreamUserClient.disabled/ and is ok, only the KP after awakening ....this is not a rule that every time I wake up the KP, is once and another time the system wakes up properly.
