Thanks for your script DD, it worked like a charm on my computer. I just have one problem, I tried to change the name of the processorwith your script, but my About Box still says "Unknown 3.2ghz".

Otherwise, anyone knows if it's safe to install VMWare Fusion ? No kernel panic at startup ?

Hi,

Can somebody tell me why i get [Process completed] message after executing RUN-PATCH_INSTALLER ? (after entering password naturally).

Impossible to run this script, even if taping ./....sh from the directory where script is located.

Can U tell me why please?

@beboy I run VMWare Fusion 2.04 without problem. Not sure which version started to be happy on i7.

luh3417,

I understand now. You used the Netkas installer and it installed the kext into S/L/E. That would be an install that would work for any system setup (vanilla, boot-132, /Extra, EFI). I already extracted the kext a few days ago using Pacifist. That's all the installer contained.

I suspect that when you ran #5 on the script, it put that kext into /Extra/Stored_Kexts and that's where it is now. However, the size is odd. The June 8 kext I have is reported as 512k (519,587 bytes) in size, not 94k as you reported. Not even the older one was that small.

It may be a while before I upload an update. Even so, no matter what update is released, it's not going to resolve this ATY_Init.kext issue in your case, because the script is going to behave in the same manner.

This is what I'd do in your case:

1. Extract kext using Pacifist without Admin privileges (should be 512k in size).

2. Delete original ATY_Init.kext from S/L/E that was installed by Netkas' installer.

3. Copy new kext to script's Kexts/_Graphics folder.

4. Run #5 (Kext installer).

5. Reboot.

After running the netkas June 8 installer, the result was a 519,587 byte file: /System/Library/Extensions/ATY_Init.kext. The reason the for my odd 64K size is I was actually drilling deeper into the .kext and grabbing /System/Library/Extensions/ATY_Init.kext/COntents/MacOS/ATY_Init. I wonder why I did that?

Well, no luck. I moved the 519,587 byte file /System/Library/Extensions/ATY_Init.kext to the script's Kexts/_Graphics folder. This deleted it and moved it to where it needs to be for the script. Then I ran script step 5. Now, /S/L/E has no ATY_Init.kext at all. There is a 519,587 byte /Extra/Stored_Kexts/ATY_Init.kext. But now the SSD has gone from working QE with the 9800GT to no QE. The only thing that looks funny is everything in Stored_Kexts is orange except for my ATY_Init.kext.

Is it possible the netkas script did some extra magic? Or I should have used Pacifist to extract? Or the various incorrect installs I did on this disk have taken their toll?

Now, this is just the spare old SSD disk, its not my main critical system. I am thinking of wiping it and starting from scratch, using a virgin 3.7 script with only the new 512K ATY_Init in the Graphics subfolder. That is really the direction we prefer to go isn't it? Unfortunately you don't have any problem graphics cards like the 9800GT to test against.

Alternatively I could do a vanilla 3.7 install, and run the June 8 netkas script yes? That ought to work (it basically did once for me) but I'm not sure we'd learn anything.

Onward,

luh3417

I have successfully installed 10.5.7 using new DD script with Vanilla files and Chameleon 2. Love it! transferred my apps using migration assiitant- all seem to work fine.

just one problem...

FCP wont launch it tells me that my video card has 0mb of vram. In about this mac it shows as:

NVIDIA Graphics Card:

Chipset Model: NVIDIA Graphics Card

Type: Display

Bus: PCIe

PCIe Lane Width: x16

VRAM (Total): 512 MB

Vendor: NVIDIA (0x10de)

Device ID: 0x0613

Revision ID: 0x00a2

ROM Revision: netkas.org

Displays:

Display Connector:

Resolution: 1920 x 1200 @ 60 Hz

Depth: 32-Bit Color

Core Image: Software

Main Display: Yes

Mirror: Off

It was working fine before and I tried using EFI studio to fix it (as I had done on previous install) with no success. Reading DD instructions I think it is the driver but I dont know how to get this last piece to work. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

It's normal, you card isn't proprely installed (no QE/CI). If it worked on your first install (it as to be on the same hardware), copy the strings from your first com.apple.boot.plist into the one you are now on.

I'm assuming that you know that efi strings add device support in the boot.plist. It look like this :

doesnt it show the voltage right next to auto in bios?

I don't believe the BIOS provides any real feedback on those screens regarding what voltage it's using for a OC when set at AUTO.

There is not one post about how to fix the pop/crack noises that come from a new DD install on my UD5. This motherboard is garbage if there is not a solution.

Does anyone know how to fix the pop/crack noises that certainly ruin my Leopard experience? Do I need a BIOS reset?

DD, do you know how to fix?

There are plenty of posts regarding various pops that may occur in audio under various conditions. Look in the audio forums. The infamous pops that occur at the beginning of a audio signal after a period of silence has been addressed, AFAIK.

However, I'm not aware of any pops using the kexts supplied for this board.

You mean "3.2Ghz Unknown"? (wording transposed.)

Is it OCed to 3.2? What bootloader are you using?

When you attempt to change name, are you working on the correct hard drive?

VMware Fusion 2 works great on this setup.

Hi,

I thought we got through this, already! :P

What Mac OS X system (version) are you using this script on and how is the account set up? Does that account have administrator privileges and can you run an installer and install software? And, how is the drive connected? (USB?) If USB, is "Ignore ownership on this volume" deselected? (should be)

Is it possible the netkas script did some extra magic? Or I should have used Pacifist to extract? Or the various incorrect installs I did on this disk have taken their toll?

Onward,

That kext wasn't labeled with a color, so I'd expect it to be "white" or unlabeled.

It's quite possible netkas' installer did more than install the kext, but it certainly didn't install any more files as that kext was all there was in the installer package.

You could just use the script again and key in the kext "number" and change its destination to "/System" and install, reboot and see if that does the trick. I doubt it would change, as I never needed to install a graphics kext in S/L/E for full operation.

As an aside, there's nothing wrong with having it installed by netkas' installer into S/L/E. It just won't be a pure, vanilla install. That kext isn't going to get overwritten by any Apple software update, either. However, I still think it should work in /Extra and don't know why it's currently not working for you.

Did you have a EFI string in your boot.plist that may have been overwritten by the Installer (from the script's folder)?

regards,

MAJ

I will try later when I go home. I had used EFI studio to write to the com.apple.boot.plist. on my last install. I've never had to do it manually as you describe. But I will try. The EFI studio route is not working for me now for some unknown reason. No hardware changes and FCS is a must in my workflow. Love how it runs on the Hackintosh! Fastest computer I have ever owned- period.

when using chameleon 2.0, the com.apple.boot.plist that gets loaded is inside /Extras. the one in /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/ is not loaded. EFI studio is most likely editing the boot plist in /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/, and so chameleon never sees the edits.

so you have to generate the strings using EFI studio or some other method and then manually put them into /Extras/com.apple.Boot.plist.

Hmmmmm. You got the same stepping as I have. The only difference I see is that CPU-X is reporting 7 cores for you, but 4 cores on mine (but, still 16 threads). Interesting.

You got a lucky pick. :P

EDIT: and very low Vcore voltage for that OC. 1.26875v Wow. Nice.

But, I bet you aren't prime95 stable with those settings. :P

MAJ

now you are confusing me.. because we went through this discussion a while back and it seems like you were saying the voltage number was displayed in bios.

Thank You very much Digital Dreamer !!!!

With your guide and some others I've got now OSX 10.5.7 working on my Dell Studio XPS435MT. Thank you very much from germany :P

Motherboard: DX58M01 (x58 Chipset with ICH10)

CPU: i7920 (all cores and with HT)

Ram: 6GB DDR3 1333Mhz (all recognized)

Graphics: ATI 4870x2 (1core is working)

Sound: Onboard Sound works!

HDD: 2x Western Digital 500GB in Software Raid 0

It's amazing how fast a computer can be.

But I have one problem. In my "System Profiler" at S-ATA I dont't see ICH10. There is just Serial-ATA-Bus x 2. !?!

Does anybody know which kext I need for ICH10 ?. And is it possible to use the hardware raid system from the motherboard? I think, if the hardware raid works, windows vista or some os could boot on a second raid partition ?!?

Thanks!!

i find this hard to believe, what is your Vcore set to? at 3.0GHz i was seeing 20C higher temps than you with the stock cooler. now i have 48C idle and 74C loaded with a cooler master 520 and arctic silver paste.

Well i use the same Temp monitor as you !

Perhaps my case is better cooling ?

I'd like to start by saying that this is an amazing installer (using digital_dreamer's script).. It really couldn't be simpler...

Everything worked perfectly until updating the boot cache... I clicked reboot on my kalyway install (as instructed by installer) and a message popped up saying updating the boot cache.. ;) Then it wouldn't stop spinning....... So I had to force power off...

When I booted into my clean install, chameleon came up, and I chose my install drive... The apple logo came up, went grey and I got that dreaded kernel panic:

You need to restart your computer..... hold down the power button.......

I'm not sure what caused it... Either the boot cache updating? Or the fact I have a GTX 285... I have seen that there is support for it using the provided kext from netkas (http://netkas.org/?p=105).. Is the one supplied in the first post this one?

Dear MAJ

I did reply to you, after this super TIP, that it changed nothing for me. Sorry.

I have repairing permission and cache problem, and solved differently [used BatChmod api].

Now no more USB HD, im running 10.5.7 on MYmac = PC.

I have now 2 installation on 2 separate WD 1TB Green.

Using my MacBook or any of MYmac OSX installation, I was never able to execute this script. Always same instant message [Process Complited].

All installations was done manually : copied files to Extra folder manually.

Altrouth the system is running there some issues l would like to correct like : no hardware or memory display in systeme profiler. Now i have 4ghz unknown processor and 12 gig of 400 mhz memory as exemple.

I run apple update successfully, but it was just stuff like java and safari. No prob there.

I cannot use double screen on dvi, its OK for now but resolution is lower on 20 apple cinema display, and 30 inch apple cinema display dont work at all if used insted.

Restarting dont work, shout down dont work but sleep works like a charm.

Now i would like to make this machine as perfect as possible beafore instaling any software.

Thats why im asking again, to try your script.

Many Thanks !

i think my problem was using 'auto' for all my voltages. i asked around on the gigabyte forum and i was advised to use 'normal' for all the main voltages.

after changing this my full-load temps are down about 4C (69-70C) @ 3.33GHz (166x20). previously i was at 150x20 and running 74-75C at full load.

what are you using to load the CPUs? what i do is run mprime (http://mersenneforum.org/gimps/mprime259-MacOSX64.tar.gz), and set it for the torture test (15) with 8 threads and using all but 1GB of my ram (so 11000MB). that's when the temperature goes to 70C.

also changing to normal has made my machine wake from S3 sleep much more reliably, even overclocked to bclk=166MHz. this is a ud4p with bios F8a.

Joe,

hmm. i don't know why using cham2 or adding the string to boot.plist would kill the sound. in my /Extra/Stored_Kexts folder i have:

 HDAEnabler.kext/
LegacyHDAController.kext/
LegacyHDAPlatformDriver.kext/

just as put there by DD's script. you are going to have to watch it in verbose mode while booting to see what errors / etc. are coming out of the HDA drivers during boot. some of them might show up in console.app under console messages right after you boot up.

of course i am running a UD4P... it might have different sound hardware. i can't remember off the top of my head.

First, I have to say thanks MAJ for writing this wonderful script and thanks to everyone on this thread with all the great advice. Thanks to all of you I have a working install with sound, video, all the goodies! :(

One smallish hitch though...

I have 3 sata hdd drives: one OSX, one Windows7, and one fat32 (storage) to share between them. If I hook all of these drives up OSX will boot up fine, work for hours on end, drives show up and everything -- then upon rebooting it fails at startup. I'm unable to even get the drive to boot by itself, which it was able to before "reliably".

If I then hook up an old Kalyway installation, fix permissions on the 10.5.7 drive, and re-run #6 on DD's install script--everything is fine again! Works, reboots, all that jazz. Then I re-attach the other drives, I get one more boot before tragedy. Can my drives all live in harmony?...

Other details:

-GA-EX58-UD4P, latest bios

-nvidia 9800gt (efi strings, works & recognized in OS)

-6 gigs Corsair XMS 1333 RAM,

-2 sata dvd drives

-I'm running just the ga-ex58-ud5 kexts

-vanilla install upgraded to 10.5.7

-using all of DD's script except DSDT patch

-ACHI settigs in bios

-can't seem to find anything truly useful in crash logs...

Any ideas/pointers/advice would be much appreciated!!

thanks!

d.

Contrats, goathead.

Exactly what happens when it fails? Does Chameleon bootloader not appear? It's likely the WIN install drive activation is interfering with the Chameleon bootloader. I would change the SATA drive order, whether it be the actual SATA ports or the BIOS hard disk boot priority.

Give those a try.

I'm having problems with my system. It's been said to set the BIOS for ACHI. When I do this the computer no longer boots windows. What am I doing wrong?

I'm having problems with my system. It's been said to set the BIOS for ACHI. When I do this the computer no longer boots windows. What am I doing wrong?

Are you using WindowsXP? If yes, please read this how to http://forums.pcper.com/showthread.php?t=444831

Don't forget set back to IDE mode befare starting Windows. After you are following this guide, you should be running Windows in ACHI mode.

Get VoodooPS2Controller for PS2 devices.

MAJ

Thanks for responding!

I always keep the OSX drive in sata slot 0 so it boots up first, tried it with slot 1 instead and booted into it via the bios (F12) and no dice (boots, but same behavior as other slot). Using ONLY the OSX drive everything is awesome. If I attach the other two drives, it'll boot up to desktop once. From there it seems to degrade...next reboot it makes it to desktop and the reboots itself after a minute of use. Thereafter, if I reboot it makes it to the gray startup screen but then crashes before hitting the desktop. I can always make it past chameleon, thankfully.

is there anything in particular I could send you from the crash logs that would be of use? Most of the output is French to me. Last two lines are:

0xfffe8000 - 0xfffebfff libobjc.A.dylib ??? (???) /usr/lib/libobjc.A.dylib

0xffff0000 - 0xffff1780 libSystem.B.dylib ??? (???) /usr/lib/libSystem.B.dylib

Thanks again, MAJ!
