FUT1L1TY
It's good to know someone has it working. Would you mind sharing your BIOS version and settings, and whether you've made any changes to S/L/E. In my case everything in S/L/E is vanilla, I use 2 EFI strings, one for the LAN and the other for the 8800GT. Nothing special in /Extra either, however I did run the DDST builder and removed busratio=20 from the boot plist as it shouldn't be needed with the 10.5.7 kernel. Thanks My /S/L/E is completely vanilla. Most of my details are in my sig. I've attached a low quality picture (sorry) of my power management settings. taylorutah
How do I install the kext for the 9800 GTX? I installed using Digital Dreamers Retail version. Everything works but my video is not performing correctly. Do I just drop a kext file into the /Extra/Stored Kexts folder? thanks for any help. luh3417
I bought a 9800GT and installed it. It made things no different. No better, and no worse. It actually continued to function the same as the 8800GT in both my "still using a straight dd 3.7 and ATY_Init" boot disk and my "try EFI String and get rid of ATY_Init" boot disk. That the latter worked at all is interesting because I still had the 8800GT string in the plist. Then I went to netkas.org and got the June 8 version of Enabler_for_Nvidia_and_multiple_ATI_cards.pkg. Unfortunately, this pkg does not have a Contents, so extracting ATY_Init.kext was tricky. But since I was running on my secondary install test drive, I just ran the pkg. And, now it says QE and Rotation (and Television ) are Supported. Now, this is working on a bit of a {censored} install, so YMMV. Its working on a system where I did a dd 3.7, then got rid of ATY_Init and put EFI strings for 8800GT, then installed the 9800GT, then ran the June 8 netkas package. And, whatever resulted from this, the 9800GT seems perfect there. Going back and testing the 8800GT it crashes the system near the end of boot after both screens come up. The proper solution is to somehow extract the ATY_Init from the netkas June 8 installer, slap it into the graphics folder used by the dd 3.7 script, and if it works call that a dd 3.7.1 or 3.8. I think the netkas package stuck the ATY_Init in /S/L/E/Contents/MacOS with size 94,088 bytes. The ATY_Init used in dd 3.7 script is 93,936 bytes. Is ATY_Init.kext all we need from the June 8 netkas or are there other parts of the package file or other things his installer does that need to be grafted in too? Can I just go to the script folder, move the old ATY_Init out of the way, slide in the new June 8 one, run just step 5 of the script, reboot and it oughta work? OK to do this on a live system or should I boot off the secondary drive?

All you need to do is add an EFI string to your com.apple.boot.plist that is in your /Extra folder. Search around for the string that corresponds to your card's model number and RAM. digital_dreamer
Thanks for the reply! That's what I thought why Chameleon cannot boot leopard.... Now I am figuring out what kexts my system needs and burn my own boot-132 cd. I've loaded the following files in my kexts.img file: KEXTs/ACPIPS2Nub.kext KEXTs/ApplePS2Controller.kext/Contents/PlugIns/ApplePS2Keyboard.kext KEXTs/ApplePS2Controller.kext/Contents/PlugIns/ApplePS2Mouse.kext KEXTs/ApplePS2Controller.kext/Contents/PlugIns/ApplePS2Trackpad.kext KEXTs/ApplePS2Controller.kext KEXTs/AppleSMBIOS.kext KEXTs/Disabler.kext KEXTs/dsmos.kext KEXTs/HDAEnabler.kext KEXTs/IntelCPUPMDisabler.kext KEXTs/IONetworkingFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/RealtekR1000.kext KEXTs/IONetworkingFamily.kext KEXTs/LegacyHDAController.kext KEXTs/LegacyHDAPlatformDriver.kext KEXTs/LegacyIOAHCIBlockStorage.kext KEXTs/LegacyJMicronATASATAIDE.kext KEXTs/LegacyJMicronJMB36xSATA.kext KEXTs/Natit.kext KEXTs/OpenHaltRestart.kext KEXTs/SMBIOSEnabler.kext all from the GA-EX58-UD5 package. The Natit.kext is from the X58 mobo patch. With this bootloader I managed to boot leopard just by going to first HD (80) and hit enter. My rig hang before getting me into desktop. The last few lines on the monitor shows it was starting NTFS driver 2.1 [Flags: R/O] NTFS volume name, version 3.1. which is my second HD without any OS on it. I don't know how it could intervene leopard booting up. Any thoughts? I feel I am so close. The 10.5.7 update was installed and now it seems I just need the correct kexts to boot it. I am burning the CD and all on my macbook now since I cannot start up leopard on my pc. bjoure, Have you run the Installer and installed these kexts into the /Extra folder of your boot drive? I still don't know why you are using a boot-132 CD. Is it because the CD is the only thing that allows you to fully boot? I'd try to focus on getting the boot drive setup by installing the kexts in Chameleon's /Extra folders. The NTFS driver message in the log is standard. All it means is that the OS has loaded the driver for the NTFS volume. The last message posted in the log is not necessarily where the issue lies, just where it runs out of things to do. What's stalling it is somewhere up the chain. Here is my full rig : GA-EX58-UD5 Core i7 920 6GB RAM 1TB 7200.12 Segate HDD 750 GB Segate 7200.10 HDD GTX275 - 896 MB Which instruction do I follow to install OSX ? I dont have another MAC to preinstall on a HDD. I do have the Retail 10.5.6 Leopard DVD. Any suggestions on how to go about installing OSX by booting of this DVD? What do you have running on your other two rigs? MAJ, everyone, I've attempted to summarize things here http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.ph...obo%2C_Scripted It would be great if others could help edit that wiki, fix my mistakes, my formatting, add more information, even add new wiki pages. Though when you go here http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.ph...allation_Guides there's no place to link to a 10.5.7 guide. Thanks for that! Very well done. I like it. Everyone brings something to the table. So, how does one add the 10.5.7 index? It's too bad it hasn't been updated - it'll turn more and more people away. Awesome work digital_dreamer thanks for the guide! I'm still looking to get audio + all cores + hyperthreading on my setup (see signature) Currently using Chameleon 1.x and vanilla 10.5.7 combo updated from iPC voodoo. So, running the DSDT patch doesn't enable all cores? If not, can you send me the DSDT Output.log? Are all cores enabled in the BIOS? I am typing this from my new i7 system. Thanks to everyone for the great help this thread supplied. I have a couple questions. My system doesn't seem as snappy as I thought it would be. I haven't OC yet and my numbers are: Xbench = 251 to 239 geekbench = 8479 How do I get the killer speed you all have? Any step by step for what to change in my bios would be appreciated. It shos up under about this mac correctly, but I have a feeling it isn't working right. I also lost my album cover flow in iTunes. Any ideas? Your benches are consistent with a stock system. The Xbench score may appear low do to including the HD tests. I suspect the lack of snappiness is due to not having QE enabled on your graphics card. The others can give you tips on that. regards, MAJ How do I install the kext for the 9800 GTX? I installed using Digital Dreamers Retail version. Everything works but my video is not performing correctly. Do I just drop a kext file into the /Extra/Stored Kexts folder? thanks for any help. You can do that. And, I haven't had any issues doing this on a live system, so far, as the modified mkext file is just loaded during boot time. I'll include the June 8 version of the Universal injector in the script for a 3.7.1 version. Also, on a tip from copy838, I'm throwing back in the USB-related plugsin in the IONetworkingFamily.kext for those with USB wireless devices. It doesn't appear the current system is able to look into the vanilla kext in S/L/E for "missing" or needed plugins. And, I thought that's what should be happening. Thanks, copy838! Let me know if this helps out those with USB wireless setups. regards, MAJ

It's too bad it hasn't been updated - it'll turn more and more people away. I'm baffled too. I asked in the site's forum http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=170065, and in the comment-on-this-wiki-page discussion http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.ph...allation_Guides. I guess they are trying to make that page editor controlled, although its against the spirit of a wiki, maybe they have some reasons, but if you're gonna take over don't then let it sit there for 6 months! And as you say, lacking 10.5.6 and 10.5.7 sections gets people scratching their chins and wondering if the whole wiki is obsolete. Anyway I'm happy to be able to make a bit of a contribution that is within my safe ability, as a small homage to what you and others have done. Most importantly, it will be great to see you and others edit and expand the wiki page too. Having that wiki will help keep this thread tidier and even more effective. dp88
I'm having a rather serious problem. I've been using your method of hackintosh for a long time. But I installed linux on a separate disk drive and somehow chameleon was overwritten by grub. I had to make a new usb drive with os x installed using my macbook just like i did before. This time though the bios locks up during post. It displays the cpuid and then hangs before counting the memory any time that I have the os x usb disk inserted into the computer. This doesn't make any sense to me. Why would a motherboard lock up when there is a certain usb drive installed? Does anyone have any ideas? taylorutah
I got my video working! At least it says QE supported now. My iTunes is still lagging! I now have cover flow back but video gets a little choppy and the busy cursor comes up any time I adjust the volume or click anything. Clicks are also delayed. I have Genius turned off. Any others having trouble with iTunes? It's not the mouse lag problem - this is different. EDIT Spinning balls all over. I think there is an issue with spotlight. joeblough
along these lines, a persistent problem that i've had with my badaxe2 is that it regularly forgets that 'Require password to wake this computer from sleep or screensaver' is ticked. the check box either goes away or even though it is checked it does not require a password. in fact the i7 machine is doing this right now. i never found a solution to this. well, i got the password thing working again, if anyone has this problem you can try this rather convoluted series of steps. i think maybe the key thing is just deleting the plists, though it might help to make it work on a brand new account first. http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...t&p=1176285

Stillglade
Not sure if anyone is interested, but there is a hacked newer version of bios for this motherboard that upgrades the AHCI and Intel RAID bioses which results in much faster boot times. digital_dreamer
It didn't work. Oh, I didn't realize you wanted to install it into S/L/E. Sorry. (how was the older ATY_Init.kext installed?) There are two ways to do this: 1. Update Boot Cache method (#6): Create a "_For_System" folder inside "Stored_Kexts" and put the ATY_Init.kext in there. Update Boot Cache will use this folder to keep track of S/L/E installs and replace the older one in S/L/E. 2. Kext Installer Method (#5): Use the Kext installer routine to install from the script's Kexts folders and key in the number of the kext and press "Enter" to change the destination to "System". Another "Enter" will install the kext into S/L/E. NOTE: If you manually installed the older ATY_Init.kext in S/L/E (without the script), the script will assume that kext is part of the vanilla install and rename (".original") it when you install the newer version. If, however, you had used the script to install this kext, the script creates a duplicate of this kext (with ".duplicate"). This allows it to differentiate it from the vanilla kexts in S/L/E. When you uninstall the kext with the script, it will remove both the kext and "duplicate." regards, MAJ
luh3417
Hi MAJ, They say "a little knowledge is a dangerous thing" and I am living proof. All I know is that the June 8 netkas made my 9800GT happy. But the June 8 netkas operates its own way. It doesn't come as a separate kext. You download an installer from netkas and it just runs. You can't even look at the contents of the package. As described way above, on my strange ass-backwards bastardized extra install disk, I jammed netkas on top (ran his installer) and it actually works. I am reluctant to just slap the netkas install on top of my has-all-my-crical-work install disk, which is simply running a virgin d_d 3.7 install. Well, plus whatever I might have screwed up by the following... What I did do is, find the different new June 8 ATY_Init from my second {censored} install disk (I had to get it from an install victim because I couldn't get the netkas package open), stick just that one file, ATY_Init.kext (the new June 8 94088 byte version) into the script folder Kexts/_Graphics, replacing the previous ATY_Init . I ran that 3.7 script on my live has-all-my-crical-work system, just step 5. Exited and rebooted. Result: no change. And I notice that down in /S/L/E I still have the older ATY_Init.kext. In other words, its not that I "want to" install it into S/L/E. What I want to do is stay on the well-worn, straight and narrow, lots of other people doing it and testing it, safe path of the d_d script. The real problem is I don't fully understand how the netkas installer operates and where it puts things, as contrasted with how your d_d script operates and where it puts things. I think I should stop trying to break my install and just chill out and wait for dd 3.7.1 or 3.8. I jumped to the assumption that this involved doing what I describe in the paragraph above, but it looks like I was wrong. I did not manually stuff a file into /S/L/E, I put ATY_Init.kext into the folder next to the script, then ran step 5. I don't see any file ending in .duplicate in /S/L/E, though I'm not sure if search drills into each package. If I may have created some ill effects that will bite me later do let me know. Otherwise I'm just going to chill until your next script. Cheers, luh3417
joeblough
Hi MAJ, You download an installer from netkas and it just runs. You can't even look at the contents of the package. if this is a regular Installer.app .pkg file (and i believe it is) then you can open it and extract parts of it with Pacifist. digital_dreamer
luh3417, I understand now. You used the Netkas installer and it installed the kext into S/L/E. That would be an install that would work for any system setup (vanilla, boot-132, /Extra, EFI). I already extracted the kext a few days ago using Pacifist. That's all the installer contained. I suspect that when you ran #5 on the script, it put that kext into /Extra/Stored_Kexts and that's where it is now. However, the size is odd. The June 8 kext I have is reported as 512k (519,587 bytes) in size, not 94k as you reported. Not even the older one was that small. It may be a while before I upload an update. Even so, no matter what update is released, it's not going to resolve this ATY_Init.kext issue in your case, because the script is going to behave in the same manner. This is what I'd do in your case: 1. Extract kext using Pacifist without Admin privileges (should be 512k in size). 2. Delete original ATY_Init.kext from S/L/E that was installed by Netkas' installer. 3. Copy new kext to script's Kexts/_Graphics folder. 4. Run #5 (Kext installer). 5. Reboot. This will have the kext in the default /Extra location. BTW, your install appears just fine to me. best of wishes, MAJ

What you can try is remove AC from the computer for about 30 seconds, then boot up. The ethernet interface is likely to work after that. But, if that doesn't work, remove power and reset BIOS. For some reason ethernet on the GA EX58 boards 'breaks' sometimes and needs to be 'reset' before it will work again.

adamk0
What part of the script takes care of the information displayed in System Profiler? I'm heaving a problem with my system clock going too fast, and I suspect that it is related to the fact that my system profiler displays in memory section 'There was an error while gathering this information.' , and 'about this mac' shows 6GB 400MHz RAM, while in fact it is 1600MHz. I have declared all the info as kernel flags: macmodel=MacPro4,1 (3,1) MemSpeed=1600 MemType=DDR3 boot-uuid=xxxxxx But it doesn't affect what is seen by the 'system profiler'. Dos this method work only with Voodoo kernel and the new 10.5.7 vanilla kernel requires another method? I'm a little bit confused, since now there is also the smbios.plist to be modified and athe boot.plist. I thought that modification of smbios.plist is for Chamelen_v2_RC1 but I'm probably wrong. So what should be modified in a case of Vanilla kernel and Chameleon_v1012?

Dividex0
Just wanted to say this method worked great for GA-EX58-UD4P. It boots with old version of chameleon. But I can't seem to get Chameleon 2 to work. It flashes the gray load screen and then reboots.
