I have a ATI 4850 and this happened to me. The only solution I've found is to have the DVI to VGA adapter plugged into your second DVI port. Weird, but it works.

 

 

Hi, fairly new at all this and am having some problems, everything seems to be working well, followed all the instructions and installed OSX on a second disc then updated to 10.5.7 and applied netkas' package for ATI 4850package for ATI 4850

 

when I boot into the new install the chameleon logo shows up it says loading darwin then the apple logo appears and then the screen goes blank after about 20 seconds and then loses signal. The computer is still on and key presses produce OSX sounds. I can only assume it has loaded but the video drivers are wrong. is there a way to correct this? or have I done something wrong? is there a way to load in verbose mode so i can se at what point it is failing?

I'm using the only DVI-out, there is a VGA-out and HDMI-out, I have added a different monitor to the VGA socket but nothing on there either.

I went to the beginning of this topic and read some of the instructions, and honestly to god ... it was a bit confusing. I didnt know where to even begin considerring where am starting. Maybe I will get some better clarification as time goes.

 

Yes I also found myself feeling a little confused after reading the instructions. I think it's partly because things have changed but the instructions have been edited along the way and that the script is supposed to be self explanatory.

 

Warning I am by no means an expert at this stuff. I strongly recommend reading the Digital Dreamer's first post before following my posted steps

 

According to my knowledge this is what you need to do.

 

1. Start with any computer (Hackintosh or normal Mac) running some form of OS X. This will be running on a separate hard drive to the one you wish to install onto "Target Hard Drive"

 

2. Format your Target Hard Drive as HFS+ with GUID partition

 

3. Run Script steps (Script found in X58 Mobo Patch Installer) 2 (Choose Chameleon 2.0) & 3 (will be easy to understand in the script)

 

4. Run Script step 4 and install 10.5 from your Leopard DVD onto your Target Hard Drive

 

4b. Run 10.5.7 combo update (make sure destination is set to your Target Hard Drive)

 

5. Run packages from www.netkas.org. There is a universal one now which should be fine but you may need additional packages (Eg "QE_CI_Exotic_cards") depending on what graphics card your running. (make sure destination is set to your Target Hard Drive)

 

6. Go into the the X58_Mobo_Patch_Installer folder and then into Kexts>_Graphics and move Natik.kext (this version of Natik might not support your card and you've already installed the universal one from step 5) into _repository.

Graphics steps no longer necessary since script 3.7 includes universal kexts. You may still need additional scripts from netkas.org (Eg. QE_CI_Exotic_cards) depending on what graphics card your running.

 

7. Reload your script and run script step 5 & 6

 

If you plan on running a multiple operating systems on your Hackintosh (eg windows) do this additional step. If you want to install XP you might need to "Load Failsafe Settings" for your bios before installing it but don't forget to switch back to AHCI.

 

- Run script step 8 and change "Quiet Boot" to "No"

 

8. If your Target Hard Drive was in an old computer you can now transfer it across to your EX58-UD5 computer. Make sure you attach it to either SATA2_0 (Blue) or GSATA2_0 (White)

 

9. Load your bios setup on your EX58-UD5 computer and Enter Integrated Peripherals.

 

If your running your Target Hard Drive from SATA2_0 (Blue) then change "SATA RAID/AHCI Mode" to "AHCI"

 

If your running your Target Hard Drive from GSATA2_0 (White) then change "Onboard SATA/IDE Ctrl Mode" to "AHCI" I tried using IDE setting to dual boot with an XP partition and I thought it was fine but discovered this was causing intermittent crashes

 

10. Go into "Advanced BIOS Features" and then into "Hard Disk Boot Priority" and make sure your Target Hard Disk is first on the list.

 

11. Boot up and your EX58-UD5 Hackintosh should be working.

 

You can run additional steps on the script to get things nicer like Update Processor Info and setup cool boot themes ect

 

My knowledge about DSDT patching isn't very good at the moment. My Target Hard Drive did boot and run fine without running this step (script step 7) but I did also run this step later after booting from my Target Hard Drive on my hackintosh hardware

 

If you want to run a RAID setup then I only know how to do it as follows. You will need a single Hard Drive already working on your EX58-UD5 Hackintosh attached to SATA2_0 (Blue). Make sure you've completed step 9

 

12. Attach your RAID Target Hard Drives to GSATA2_0&1 (White) (0&1&2&3 if your running 4 HD instead of 2). I was unable to get raid working on SATA2 (Blue)

 

13. In your BIOS go into Integrated Peripherals>Smart Backup and use Smart Backup Config to setup your RAID.

 

14. Repeat steps 2-9 using your RAID as your new Target Hard Disk.

 

I'm currently unable to enter sleep while using my RAID setup

Reload the kexts but leave out the three for audio (audio doesn't work in any event).

 

I had the same issue. Look at the kernel panic (if using the verbose flag -v) and you will most likely see mention of the audio kext. After I hooked up the drive and removed the kexts using my macbook it booted fine.

 

If you want audio working replace the AppleHDA.kext in /S/L/E with the AppleHDA.kext from 10.5.6 and simply use your old audio kexts and it should work fine. That's how I got mine working.

 

I should note that I was using Wolfie's EFI boot partition with kexts and kernel but switched to using Chameleon and the /Extra dir for kexts. I tried changing the version number of AppleHDA.kext (10.5.6) and all the other kexts located inside to try and keep /S/L/E vanilla, however this does not work. Just so you know

In the boot.plist, change the "Quiet Boot" string to "No", or just delete that key and string entirely.

I've tryed your script with voodoo xnu 9.7.0 kernel, proper system.kext, updated natit.kext and 10.5.6 retail install. Then the result is a kernel panic : acpiplatformexpert don't found any hpet cpu.

 

Another try with your script with updated kext for ex58, last voodoo kernel and system.kext. The kernel tell me "still waiting for root device". I think the kernel don't found uuid disk properly envent if I verifier for the good uuid disk parameter in the com.boot.apple.plist...

 

I take hours to work to have a good working system based on efi install because I don't want to modify the source of the kext in the OS X root drive like with the DD script (even if is easy to update the kext with this script... but his installed kext don't work properly after 10.5.7 combo update...)

 

Could you tell me what are the good step to have my system stable under os x 10.5.7?

First said - you do really a great job helping people here! I built my first Hackintosh/Core i7 in January and it worked like it would had been a breeze.

But now as the new 10.5.7 update is available, I face some problems. Hopefully you can help me!

 

I use two OSX installs (both EFI; wolfienukes script) on two different harddrives (second one is meant for backup and experimental scenarios). Yesterday I updated that second (=backup) install to 10.5.7 and found it to perform much poorer (Geekbench 2.1.2: 6251 points) compared to the original 10.5.6 install (Geekbench 2.1.2: 8652 points). Also, I used the new kext-package by digitaldreamer but the result still remains the same.

 

I also tried to change the mach_kernel and the matching system.kext from 9.6.0 to 9.7.0 on the 10.5.6 install. Same result here ... all the sudden the 10.5.6 install only reaches 6100 points (compared to its 8652 points when used with the 9.6.0 kernel).

 

Maybe you can help me finding out what could be the reason for those heavy losses in performance. As already implied, I installed the digitaldreamers kext-package on the EFI-partition with the aid of wolfienukes script (except of EFI-strings for my GFX-Card + audio and network kexts for the DS-4 board, nothing of the kext-package was changed.

 

Here are my systems specs:

 

Gigabyte GA-EX58-DS4 (BIOS settings as recommended by digitaldreamers post).

Intel Core i7 920 / 2.67 GHz (nothing overclocked).

4x2 GB DDR3 RAM, 1333 MHz.

PNY GeForce 9800 GTX+, PCIE.

1st HD: Windows

2nd HD: Backintosh (Backup; now with 10.5.7)

3rd HD: Macintosh (10.5.6)

 

Hopefully I'm not forced to install everything again. Even though I realize that wolfienukes script is kind of outdated now (though I think it's still great), it would mean too much hassle doing the whole configuration again (also harddisk abrasion - I'm kind of paranoid in that sense).

Hey guys, I got a Intel Core i7 920 OC'd to 3.4ghz 12GB 1600mhz ddr3 ram, 9800gtx+ all working well under 10.5.7 but I got a small problem, all of my internal disks appear to be external drives with the orange icons and Time Machine is no longer backing up, comes up with an error saying the drive could not be located when Disk Utility and Finder see the drive just fine, any idea how to fix this? I apologize in advance if anyone already asked his and I missed it and also thanks in advance for any help!

You have run into a common problem with 10.5.7 on the x58 based boards - the system clock runs about 33% too fast making any 'speed test' that measures numbers of events that occur in a clock cycle to read about 25% lower than it should.

 

The 'fix' is to use the 9.6 Voodoo kernel or change the boot loader to Chameleon2.

 

I also prefer EFI boot partition over Chameleon /Extra/Extensions in root method. I use Wolfie's script to set up the EFI partition. You can include the Voodoo kernel in that script and the system clock will behave. Or you can use Wolfie's script and then use Zhell's modifier script to add Chameleon2 to the EFI partition. I have used both methods on my X58-UD3R board and they work equally well to manage the 'runaway' clock.

Hardware Monitor. it can monitor the cpus. when you start it the first time it installs a kext that it needs to talk to the cpu thermal diodes.

Just another (final) success story here:

 

i7 920, UD5, 12GB RAM, ATI 4850.

 

I used 3.6 with a HD connected to my macbook, and it all seemed to work fine except I had a black screen at the end of boot. This seemed to be related to the port I was using on the 4850 (it has 1 DVI, 1 VGA and 1 HDMI, and it's the DVI I want to use).

 

After reading a few posts, I then applied the latest netkas along with the 'modified framebuffer' package, and that fixed it - I still can't use S3 sleep as the screen is corrupted on wake, but I rarely use sleep anyway on a desktop.

 

I'm really grateful to DD, and the others who've posted help. I've tried severall times to get all sorts of 'retail' installs to work, with no joy and now this works amazingly - maybe 10.5.7 helped as I'd tried a previous script in the same way with bad results, but this combination is perfect.

 

I don't use onboard audio, but a USB Line6 Toneport UX8, and that works great once official drivers are installed, as does the UAudio UAD-2.

 

The only questions I'd have:

 

1) I have two .pkg files from netkas for the graphics fixes... how do I extract the relevant files and update the script to add these to chameleon, rather than install them direct ?

 

2) I assume the corrupt screen on wake is requiring a further netkas fix - or do I need to update my bios from F4 to F8b ?

And the OS bots just fine, runs fine, didn't see any different.

 

I have P6T/i7/920, 10.5.7 updated with vanilla 9.7.0, Chameleon 2.0.

 

So, all kext I have in my Extra now is only dsmos.kext, that's it.

You can use Pacifist to extract the kexts.

 

BTW, I have both of those kexts (extracted) in my v3.7 script download. (Motmot and Quail)

Your point is well taken.

The vanilla AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext has had a reputation of not working well with certain CPUs (AMD, especially). More particularly, because of poor sleep and idle state support (for non-Apple supported CPUs), it would cause some CPUs to run hot on idle or not sleep.

Does sleep work okay on your system?

 

Given that the Core i7 CPU is now natively supported by Apple, it would seem that it should be well supported by the AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext now. We need more tests.

 

EDIT: Nah, not going to work! Just results in a AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement related KP.

That kext is also very motherboard specific, as well, so don't bother removing that portion of the Disabler.

 

I don't think the boot cache was updated. Notice the "AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement: initialization complete" message after it was "removed."

Those that are using Chameleon 2 and the smbios.plist may be aware that if you remove the SMmaximalclock key, Chameleon can grab the proper info from the BIOS, at least on the Gigabyte UD5 board. Other than some curious rounding, it appears to work okay for OCed boards.

I also remove the SMexternalclock key, as the bus figures appear to be total irrelevant on Core i7 systems. Not sure what apple has recorded on theirs. Does anyone know?

 

Here's a sample of my smbios.plist in /Extra:

(Note that you can apply one name/number across all memory banks, for example, if you don't use the "_x" suffix. However, that suffix doesn't appear to refer to a particular bank position, but is just fills in each bank in sequence. Therefore, you'll need to have a "filler" in place for bank 2 and 4 to get up to bank 5, for example.)

After the initial try the system would hang on the SMC, I've deleted the DSDT file and ran the X58 mobo installer again, and ran the numbers again. Now it does this to me which I personally find rather mean

 

Any help is very much appreciated.

You can use Pacifist to extract the kexts.

 

BTW, I have both of those kexts (extracted) in my v3.7 script download. (Motmot and Quail)

 

I must admit I didn't check, but do they include the modified framebuffer as well ? The package includes several files: ATY_Triakis, ATY_Quail and ATY_Motmot as well as the default Natit kext.

 

I know that if I just use the ATY_Init, it doesn't work. I apply both the standard pkg, and the modified framebuffer package, and it works...

 

... I just don't know which exact kexts I need.

Hi everyone,

 

I installed the Kalaway 10.2 with no problems and have that running, but i can't get 10.5.7 to boot. I am getting the "Still waiting for root device" statement after the firewire switching. I was wondering if the geforce 6600 256mb pci-e is supported. I am only using this as i had it lying around and wanted to put it in so i can install FCP for a school project.

 

My Setup:

Gigabyte GA-ex58-extreme

i7 920 (d0 stepping) Stock right now

6gb OCZ 1600mhz platinum 7-7-7-24

WD 74gb raptor -->where the 10.5.7 is installed

Seagate 1.5tb 7200.11 --> where kalaway is installed

random liteon combo drive on IDE

 

is it my video card thats preventing the loading?
