The install does not end, In the BIOS I changed the Memory Frequency 1066 by 1333. HPET Mode 32bit by 64bit.

 

Did it help? Did you managed to set the system up successfully using the newest 3.6 script? I had the same issue and finally I performed the installation on my MacBook, but I still have an issue with the audio kext that I had to finally remove to boot my system.

 

Just wanted to report my tentative success. No big surprise, as 10.5.7 seems to be enabling a lot of success stories. I solved the remaining System Profiler issue by completely removing the SMmaximalclock and SMexternalclock lines from smbios.plist. I've also managed a 4GHz overclock which tops out at 62 degrees or so under load, and seems stable.

You know, when I installed the updated audio kexts, I didn't get audio at first, until I found out the "Digital Out" was selected in Sound Preferences/Outputs, instead of "Internal Speakers." Don't know why that would have changed when updating.

Hey guys, quick question, i tried searching and couldn't find anythign...., but would it be harder or the same to install osx 10.5.7 if i buy the ex58-ud4p MB instead of the UD5 and would it work 100%? What are the differences between the boards besides having 2 more sata ports on the UD5? Only asking because the ud5 is still like $300+ while i can get the ud4p for ~$185

This guide also work on my EX58-UD3R I just didn't install the audio drivers and ran the 10.5.7 combo update. The only problem is the initial boot didn't let me copy over a account from another drive. Every time i tried to do it, it restarted the opening movie then went to keyboard selection. I just used the migration assistant later.

Hey guys, something VERY WEIRD just happened to me right now. I thought it might save someone some time or someone might just want to know.

 

I was listening to my slingplayer using my "mac" front audio port. There was an update for iLife, which I went ahead and installed, and rebooted afterward. In its way back up I've got a kernel panic. I thought it was because:

 

1) the update, or

2) My blackberry and iphone were connected (it happened before, usb recognized as first HD)

 

I rebooted into single user and find out it was the AppleHDA the cause. I looked at my "Mac" saw the earphone (earbuds) connected. I disconected them, let the OS reboot and ""Boom"", here it was my shine retail OSX again, bringing with it a deep sight along.

i have the UD4P and D_D's script works fine, with the following exception - if i boot with the front headphones plugged in (actually i never tried the back headphones), it kernel panics on boot. i remember someone else had that problem here but i don't remember seeing a solution.

 

only other problem is that sleep/wake has never been reliable when overclocked. i thought the F9a bios fixed this but it looks like the F9a bios has other problems, according to the gigabyte forums. i reverted back to F8a and lowered my bclk from 166 to 158 and it seems stable now, though it will still fail mprime occasionally. perhaps i have a bad dimm, i can't really narrow it down. and i'm sure getting sleep/wake to work right at higher OC is just a matter of tweaking voltages. at bclk=166 sometimes the machine won't POST; i think this is related to the lockups when waking from S3 sleep.

the front audio works, or at least the headphones do. but i (and 2 others) have found that if we boot with the front headphones plugged in, the kernel dies very early in the boot process. i need to experiment with other audio kexts to see if this can be resolved. perhaps voodooHDA??

I've got a problem - I used D_D's install on my ud4p and was running beautifully for the last few days. I finally got around to the software update to bring itunes, ilife, etc up to date. The newest java update was included in the list. I downloaded and rebooted and now it won't go past the blue screen. Everytime I boot (whether I add flags or not) it boots as if I used the "-f" flag. Nothing seems out of the ordinary when I use -v. I was able to get it past there once when trying safe mode but it got stuck as soon as I entered my password.

 

Sorry if this has been discussed but search is useless. Has the java update killed my install? Nothing else in the update list seemed like it could cause an issue....then again I've never had an issue with apple updates in the past on my macbook pro.

 

Any advice/guidance is much appreciated.

Of the i7 boards it seems to be the most fully supported. I'm thinking of getting it but I saw a few negative reviews at newegg about the built in power saving feature causing problems. Can anyone confirm this?

I just switch from EFI to your DD 3.6 and after testing for a day it is for sure better and more stable thank EFI.

I did face one problem on installing my graphic card string, it will not fit on option 8 in your script, in EFI script I use the string.txt to inject it.

I manage to fix it after installation with EFIstadio and work fine now. my string is long.

I have noticed some issues with the digital out when using Plex media centre in that after the first or second movie the audio stops and Plex hangs.. this is all pointing to the 889a drivers ... it maybe that a simple reinstall of the driver is all that is required but I am not sure which of the ones are used as standard within the 3.6 script.... but when it is running full digital audio is streamed to the receiver

Another item on the network, in case someone is looking for the Firewire network (and Bluetooth if installed) these will become available by reinstalling the networking kext.

After a couple of days using the new script I'd thought I'd post a little feedback:

I am using the default UD5 kexts/setup using the 3.6 script. After install I added an EFI string in the Extra/boot.plist for a 7300GT.

Sleep

I made no changes to hibernate mode (default was 0) and sleep worked well. Wake seemed to work fine although I did notice that on a number of occasions the machine KP'd at random points after wake from sleep. Generally it seemed a lot less stable after resuming from sleep.

 

After a day of use I noticed I had the Natit.kext installed (from default install) - I didn't need this because I was using EFI string so I removed from Stored_Kexts, updated boot caches and rebooted. Later I attempted to wake from sleep, the machine woke but the screen didn't and I'm sure the machine KP'd.

 

So bizarelly after a bit of testing I found that the only way to get wake back was to include (what I thought was redundant) Natit.kext. With this back in Stored_Kexts the machine would wake correctly. I'm still seeing reduced stability after wake from sleep however.

 

Ethernet

I am only able to get one of the ethernet ports to function. On my old EFI setup I could swap the cable between ports with no problem. Even rebooting with the cable plugged in to port 2 doesn't work and after some testing I had all sorts of problems getting Time Machine working properly, which I fixed by deleting the NetworkInterfaces.plist.

GA-EX58-UD5, Chameleon 2.0RC1, /Extra folder, script 3.6 clean install

My observations, remaining issues:

1) Default install didn't seem to install the voodoo kernel after a 10.5 clean install. Fixed by adding kernel manually, then upgrading to 10.5.7 and switch kernel back to vanilla.

2) Script does not allow the gfx EFI string to be added as it has a 1022 byte maximum. Fixed by adding manually to com.apple.plist in /Extra after using OSX86Tools for 8800GT

3) Adding AppleSMBIOS.kext fixed cpu speed recognition.

4) Adding the LAN EFI string fixed Bonjour issues

5) System Profiler reports only 4 cores, is this correct, I thought it should report 8?

6) Sleep does not work, either automatically or manually from Apple menu

7) doing a sudo dmesg after boot reveals several HDA errors

i'm pretty sure at this point that if sleep works for you only sometimes, then the problem is the bios. if your motherboard lights are all purple when it's hung, then the bios did not properly reinitialize the board after S3.

 

i've seen this problem on very old bioses (F2) on the UD4P even when not overclocked. when overclocked, only bioses F8a and above were able to resume from sleep. F8a is still a little unstable with bclk=166mhz. f9a was stable with bclk=166mhz. i think the solution to these problems involves setting up voltages/multipliers by hand rather than leaving them on 'auto'.

 

as far as reduced stability goes, some bioses are known to come back from S3 but leave the board in a bad state. supposedly F9a is one of these bioses WRT ram timing.

This is a pretty common fault on the UD5.

Try clearing the CMOS.

I really doubt the Java install had any affect on your system stability. Just a coincidence. You may have disk directory or permission issues, but why, I wouldn't know.

I may ask what Mac Identifier you are using, as they may provide clues as to the type of update you received.

That review is a bit over-exaggerated. We had some report about this PSU squeal, but that was resolved by simply turning off the power-saving feature in the BIOS, unlike what was claimed. Power-saving techniques will invariably introduce noise (squeals or chirps of various frequencies) in the PSU as the PWM circuits change frequencies or pulse widths to control supply power. That's just a natural (although irritating) byproduct of this feature. But, I think this is dependent on the type of PSU one uses and the load it must supply.

Those that want a higher "quality" audio interface will likely use a PCI card or USB device, regardless of the quality, or lack, of the on-board audio chipset.

I could wake on hibernatemode 0 most of the time, but KP would be inevitable after some time. Once I changed to hibernatemode 2, those issues went away.

Your Natit.kext issue is rather curious. Thanks for providing that feedback. I wish I could offer something to help, but I'm clueless, especially since you have a NVIDIA card and the kext in question is for ATI cards. I know that the plist inside that Natit.kext does have some NVIDIA related keys, however. If I were you, I might strip out those NVIDIA related lines and see if the problems come back. If so, those lines are apparently needed, but why? And, why doesn't a string suffice?

 

Your LAN port may be fixed by a BIOS CMOS clear.

 

The UUID.kext is supposed to squelch the UUID related error messages in the log. But, I believe it only works correctly when one keys in their MAC address in the appropriate location in its plist. I only found this information on the Voodoo forums, but that information was said to come from a insanelymac thread that I can't seem to find. Amusing, I know.

You can install 10.5.0 and immediately update to 10.5.7 without rebooting, so no kernel switching would be necessary.

I'll be fixing that EFI string limitation soon, I hope.

The 4 core reported is, indeed, correct.

The sleep issues you report, is this really a wake from sleep issue?

Sleep issues are going to vary from machine to machine, depending on the combination of BIOS versions and hardware devices connected. That's why it's such an elusive, never-ending goal.
