Something is definitely wrong although I can't tell you what that is. My Geekbench scores are below. The strangest thing is your cinebench 'multiprocessor speedup'. It's way too high. I'm pretty sure this should be a number between 4 and 5.

--Changing System Profiler/About This Mac Values--

First things first, Install this new kext (Don't worry, it shouldn't be able to break installs) Attached File AppleSMBIOS.kext.zip ( 48.54K ) Number of downloads: 1177

 

-Restart

-System Profiler should be reporting correct info in Hardware Overview.

 

To Fix "About this mac"

1.) Go to /System/Library/CoreServices (manually, not in terminal)

2.) Find the file "loginwindow", Right click-->Show package contents.

3.) Then browse to /Contents/Resources/English.lproj

4.) Copy the file "AboutThisMac" to the desktop.

5.) Open with Text Editor

6.) Find the line "ABOUT_BOX_MULTIPLE_PROCESSORS_FIELD_FORMAT" (line without the / at the begining

 

7.) Edit the Value of "%@" after the equal sign to say whatever you

want it to say in about this mac for processor. For example

Core 2 Quad, Q6600";

 

 

8.) Do the same for the line "ABOUT_BOX_SINGLE_PROCESSOR_FIELD_FORMAT"

= "2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Quad, Q6600"; (don't know if it makes a

difference doing it for this one as well.

 

9.) Next, we can edit what we want it to say for Memory: Find the line

"ABOUT_BOX_MEMORY_FIELD_FORMAT" =. It is near the bottom of the page.

 

10.) Change the Value after the equal sign to whatever you want. For

Example

"ABOUT_BOX_MEMORY_FIELD_FORMAT"  = "4GB Corsair DDR2

800MHz";

 

 

11.) Now save the file on your desktop.

12.) Right click on it-->Get info. Make sure the extensions is .strings and not .txt

13.) Delete the original "AboutThisMac" file by dragging it into the trash can.. you will need to authenticate.

14.) Drag the new "AboutThisMac" from the desktop in its place in the "English.lproj" folder.

15.) No need to restart, reopen About This Mac and see your changes.

It must be pulling the numbers from there, not the actual system, because I ran sysctl and it came up with 3.1666666 ghz (which I'm assuming is the 3.2ghz that is displayed in the hardware profile?)

Perhaps has something to do with the old kext as you mentioned. We are using whatever kext the OP posted. I wasnt sure it was cosmetical 100% as the test showed. I will change mine later on to feel better about it .

 

It will be good to have the system automatically refresh it. There should be a way. In my old Atiakos install with the Intel DX58SO, they refreshed automatically after I OClocked my system. I will digg further into this.

Still on topic. Having trouble with audio. ;p

 

I've got a SB Audigy2 ZS Platinum installed. Using the kX Project driver 1.2b1, output works (loud but manageable). Input is not supported. I sort of need input, so I tried turning to the UD5's built-in input (blue plug).

 

Now, in System Preferences -> Sound -> Input, the Input Level faithfully indicates that it is indeed receiving a signal. Unplugging the audio eliminates the activity, so it is absolutely receiving audio properly. The problem? No corresponding audio from the output, either from the SB or the built-in audio. I'm probably mistakenly taking it for granted that the input audio should be redirected to the output by default.

 

So maybe my question is as simple as: How can I force OSX to redirect input audio through the output?

 

Hopefully it's not something like: Why is the audio kext not giving me sound from my input? ;p

 

Edit: I found a program called LineIn which does work. However, it is an application which runs in its own little window which cannot even be reduced. Not very elegant. Would be better to know how to tell OSX itself that I want the audio redirected, or at least find a solution that can operate a bit further in the background.

Hi everyone,

 

I tryed two retail installation/modding with the install script

 

First, i've tryed to mod with the script a cloned 10.5.6 install from my macbook on a 80GB external USB hd and it worked. So, i remane the model identifier Ex58-ud5 to MacPro4.1. Also, all the perepherals of the UD5 were identified in the system profiler exept my hd 4870 512MB. Then i have installed the Netkas kext properly and it worked with acceleration. Paralelles, Internet and office worked properly. The only thing that work too fast, is VLC and PREY. VLC play too fast every media file and PREY un too fast (the caracter is running when it supposed to walk!!!). The good thing is that OS X install is stable enough to run properly an new installation of OS X.

 

(First attempt resume: 1- Carboncopy cloned hd from my macbook 2- run install script with hd4870 natit 3- reboot. Result=work stable but with some glitchs)

 

Then i've tryed to install a fresh 10.5.7 on my sata 500Gb internal hd. I've installed 10.5.6 and the combo update manualy and try the install script for the bootloader, partition activation, kext, bootcache flushing and model naming. So, at the reboot, OS X reboot like if i don't run the install script. I formated the partition for a new install.

 

(Second attempt resume: 1- Fresh 10.5.6 install 2 Install comboupdate 10.5.7 3- run install script with hd4870 natit 4- reboot. Result = frozze at boot)

 

For the third try, i run completly the install scrip from the first to last sequence... without the dsdt patching option. After the reboot the installation worked but without proper monitor resolution. Even if i put the hd4870 natit.kext directly in the _Graphics directory, my video card is not properly identified. I installed the comboupdate 10.5.7 and after the two normal reboot, my hd4870 worked on DVI port at 1920x1080x32 but only with the svga cable plugued on the second ports with dvi-to-vga adapter. If i remove the second monitor cable (vga), the monitor is turning off. So i must have the ports connected to have OS X desktop!?! Anyone have this issue?

 

The performance seem to be near of which i got with my macbook OS X modded installation. Also I got the seem bug wth VLC and PREY with this last installation. The system profiler don't report several perepheral installed by the script.

 

(Third attempt resume: 1- Fresh 10.5.6 install 2- run install script with hd4870 natit 3- Install comboupdate 10.5.7 4- reboot. Yes. I just edited my smbios.plist (attached below as a text file).

Yes, you should but not on a live drive. As a habit I try not to work on my boot drive while it is live. After removing the System.kext, you should update your boot cache using DD's script.

I don't see the System.kext. I think that the script don't have encapsulate the system.kext in the extensions.mkext. After a search, i found it the /System/Library/Extensions/

 

Is the last version of the script don't install the system.kext in /extra/extensions.mkext?

I'll rename the one i've found and i'll flush the bootcache and reboot to test.

You look to be okay, but I would wonder if you might have installed the vanilla kernel from the script folders, which would be a slightly older build. If you look in System Profiler/Software, you should have 9.7.0 (9J61).

 

Doesn't matter what version script you had, they all will install a kernel and System.kext if they are in the folder to be installed. It's only in the last version (3.6) where I actually removed the vanilla kernel and kext. But, one could still include it if they wanted, but that would be totally unnecessary.

I just updated from Wolf's EFI script on 10.5.6 to DD's new script on a copy of my HD. DD's script works well, except I have the GA-EX58-UD3R which has a slightly different audio chipset (ALC888 instead of ALC889a). This was working well under Wolf's script and a custom LegacyIOAHCIBlockStorage.kext, LegacyJMicronJMB36xSATA.kext, and HDAEnabler.kext. However, moving those three kexts to DD's Kext folder, rerunning DD's Run kext/kernel installer step, then rebooting causes a kernel panic. Does anyone have any suggestions for me?

well, my UD4P seems to be slightly unstable running 10.5.7. but it might be the BIOS.

 

i've had a couple of freezes, but i was overclocked with BCLK=166Mhz and cpu = 3GHz. i noticed that mprime was failing sometimes, and i think i narrowed it down... it seems to be failing after returning from S3 sleep. i even went back to stock BCLK=133MHz and CPU=2.66GHz and the same thing happens.

 

this is on bios F9a, which was the first reliable bios for me when returning from S3 while overclocked.

 

reading the gigabyte forums, it seems that people don't reccomend leaving anything set to auto when overclocked. i guess that could be my problem but you'd think that auto would work if you are running stock frequencies!

 

i need to boot 10.5.6 and see if the same behavior is there to really eliminate the OS as the cause of this problem.

 

edit: happens under 10.5.6. and also sleep/wake is not required for the failure. maybe my CPU is bad...? ugh

 

edit edit: it was the ram. i guess in this version of the bios the memory voltages are different or something... ran memtest86 overnight and it failed; bumped up the ram voltage a little bit and its passing now. sigh.

Did you delete/reformat your EFI partition? I've heard that if you don't the older EFI bootloader will interfere with chameleon.

Hi guys. This is my first post here and I'm fairly new to OSX86. I really appreciate all the hard work that dd and wolf have done. I've received all my components couple of days ago and I've been reading this guide for months. Last night I started with DD's method and everything went smoothly. But when i plugged hdd to my i7 system it was stuck at apple logo screen. So here is my first question. How do I see what's going on behind that screen so I can troubleshoot? I tried pressing F8 key to enter "-v", but boot screen just went by.

 

So I was disappointed and decided to try another install with wolf's method. Success! I even updated to 10.5.7 using Apple Software update. But there is a small problem. My audio comes out good from front panel but it doesn't come out from rear panel. How do i fix that? Would you please let me know how to enable that?

 

Last question. Do Parallel and VMware work well with wolf's method? I believe VMware works well with dd's method. I don't have virtual machine yet. I need to purchase. Thanks.

First off, thanks to DD and iamnicos (I think) for answering my questions back on page 68 or so.

 

Got an install up and running last night. Only issues so far:

1. My Broadcom 4318 refuses to work. I keep seeing, "a link/load error occurred when loading AppleAirportBrcm4311...". Any way to get more detail about why this happened?

2. My video card isn't recognized yet, though that is to be expected, it seems.

3. My USB keyboard dropped out randomly and I had to reboot to get it back.

 

This could work. I'm on install #2, it is kind of finicky, isn't it?

If you used DD's script you should run it again, select option 8) 'Modify boot plist', select your drive, and then select option 'Kernel Flags:' to add for example '-v'.

 

I'm experiencing similar problem with my installation performed using the newest 3.6 version. In my case the problem is with the audio kexts. If in your case the problem is associated with audio kexts, you can try remove them: go to 'Kexts/_Audio' directory and move LegacyHDAPlatformDriver.kext and LegacyHDAController.kext back to /_repository/, and then run again option 5), 6) and 7) of the script ('Run kext/kernell installer', 'Update boot caches', and 'Run DST patcher'). Of course if you remove these kexts you won't get your sound card working So it's not the solution, just a hint how to investigate further your problem.

I read the entire guide, but still have one question. I can now download 2 things: The X58 mobo installer (which includes the script, ...) and the GA-EX58-UD5 kexts (just some kexts). When i open the X58 mobo installer and go to the kexts folder, it already includes a lot of kexts... Do I need to replace these with the GA-EX58-UD5 kexts or are the kexts of the X58 mobo installer package enough to let everything work on my GA-EX58-UD5?

Of course if you remove these kexts you won't get your sound card working So it's not the solution, just a hint how to investigate further your problem.

I thank you for your reply. I reinstalled with dd's script and this time everything went smoothly. Only thing that I can't configure is eVGA 9800 GTX+ card. I've used osx86 tool installer and GFX string method but I couldn't get it working. Can you give me some idea what to look for and where? I'm so close to finishing my osx86 system. :-) Thanks.
