Hello everyone.

ok as a test I took a usb drive and installed 10.5.6 then installed the 10.5.7 update and made active, and installed RC1 bootloader. and only one kext in /s/l/e was added which is the dsmos.kext (without this I seem to get KP on boot).

Ok nothing else was added or changed. and at boot it hangs at :

AppleTyMCEDriver::start memory monitor trough MCA

see screenshot below.

Any ideas what would cause this I am running on EVGA X58 MOBO, and EVGA 9800 GTX +

BTW it does boot with -v -f -x

Hello

I referred to this thread http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...pic=133683%2522 and also this one

http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/lofiversi...p:/t159686.html

It is the DSDT patcher ... and something about searching for Alias around the CPU section... which was not present in my version to edit ....

@ncsa

Could you tell me more about the issue i have too ? (i just see 4 cores...).

If you're using chameleon v2rc1 your system maybe identified as "macpro", according to netkas this can give kernel panic on 10.5.7!

front serial bus displayed at 1.33Ghz?

Mine says 533Mhz. I cant seem to get to the bottom of this.

Do not remove anything, install everything and does not change anything.
Congratulations, Hakintos!!!

The missing third channel RAM is likely because you are stilling running the older BIOS firmware. Update your BIOS and it'll appear.

I'm realizing that many now are reporting USB hot-plugging issues. I'll work on that solution. The only sure fix right now is to have the System.kext that's in /Extra/Stored_Kexts copied to S/L/E. Keep the vanilla version for backup.

F7 bios updates, detects triple channel. OK :D
Try the new legacyJMicronATASATAIDE.kext in the download. That should fix you up.
I will try the new legacyJMicronATASATAIDE.kext
Say, I noticed the CPU features (SSE, etc.) in your System Profiler screenshot a few posts ago. Did you do anything different to get that to show up? Did you remove the AppleSMBIOS.kext, or something else?
Do not remove anything, install everything and does not change anything. I have an error in installing retail leopard 10.5.6 dvd. When you are 8 minutes, the computer freezes. Before upgrading the bios, also occurred. Restart and apply kexts and kernel, and I already have the unit operational.

Because this error happens?

If you're using chameleon v2rc1 your system maybe identified as "macpro", according to netkas this can give kernel panic on 10.5.7!

http://netkas.org/?p=100

Ok reinstalled with only the dsmos and the decrypter kext in the extra folder. and also deleted the AppleTyMCEDriver.kext

now I get little further and I get the mDNSResponder Couldnt read user-specified computer name

and hangs there.

New installation with 10.5.7 works pretty good, here's how I've done it:

- Connect a harddisk to a working OS X computer

- Install Mac OS X 10.5.6 on this harddisk (Use Universal OSx86 Installer for example)

- Install Mac OS X 10.5.7 update on this harddisk

- Install Natit.pkg (if you've got an Radeon HD 4870 card)

- Run "RUN-PATCH_INSTALLER" from the modified X58_Mobo_Patch_Installer

- Select the correct harddisk

- Follow these steps: 2,3,5,6,7

- Reboot with the new harddisk!

You now have Mac OS X 10.5.7 running with native ICH10 support and vanilla kernel!

Hi,

Are you using a retail install disc? or a distro like iPC Idenev Kalyway Jas Leo4All?

Install Chameleon v2rc1 bootloader !!!without!!! the extra kexts during installation "so press customize during chameleon install, and get rid of it".

retail install steps don't do anymore than this!:

0 check bios settings:

ahci etc etc etc

1 Go to diskutility

2 Partition USB volume with GUID/GPT and 1 Volume

3 Install OSX from withinOSX like you mentioned before

#put in retail disc, or mount retail install DMG

Terminal:

sudo -s

open /Volumes/Mac OSX installer etc/S*/I*/P*/OSInstall.mpkg

#finish install

4 Install combo update 10.5.7

#finish install

5 Install Chameleon bootloader!!!customize!!!

6 drag and drop dsmos.kext + Intelcpudisabler.kext + Openhaltrestart into /Extra/Extensions

#of your usb volume ofcourse

7 finished

#eject usb volume, connect it to your Core-i7, boot and pray :D

post fixes...

#no audio, no lan and no video"QE CI" but atleast it must boot...

ps: saw you got a evga instead of gigabyte board...

Hi Cybex,

When you say you applied script,

Did you throw the Kernel version (otherwise your still running 9.7 9J56 and not proper 9.7), the LegacyAppleAHCI and the smbios.kext from the script before running it ?

Are you succesfull with external device mounting ? With DMG (have to try several before to know) ?

Last feedback

10.5.7 was not shutting down proprely (KP) and buggy.

I decided to throw away the boot file witch was still on my drive and to run the script w/o Kernel, LegacyAppleHCI and smbios.

Chamaleon was not mounting, had to reintsall it with the script.

Everything seems ok now...

Crossing fingers, still lot of work to do and no more time to mess around...

regards.

Is there a way to put the new 10.5.7 vanilla kernel to a boot-132 disc?

I think it would make installing much easier, but as there are no 10.5.7 retail disks out yet ... :laser:

How about slipstreaming that update to a retail disc? Would that be possible?

Yes, you'll see that when you download the modified X58_Mobo_Patch_Installer I used in the previous post. When I installed the kexts, I made sure that the kernel was NOT updated.

I mounted several USB sticks and mounted several DMG on external disk, no problem at all. Did you expect problems with this?

Its retail install, this same USB drive I had 10.5.6 running voodoo kernel and then updated to vanilla kernel and worked fine, just testing the 10.5.7 update on this drive before I do it on my main system which is running 10.5.6 with vanilla kernel.

on the USB drive /extra/Stored_Kexts I have AppleDecrypter, disabler.kext, dsmos.kext, intelCPUPMDisabler.kext

used DD's script to update boot cache,

Nothing in the /S/L/E folder added.

the Parition is GUID Partition Table

This Same drive worked with 10.5.6

Yes...I experienced this issues with my second install, with 10.5.6 update and with the new 10.5.7

Had every time to run script from 5 to 7 in order to have it back. And on 10.5.6, to install System.kext in S/L/E.

In fact my update is buggy. A KP juste occured one or two minutes after waking up from a spleep. A firewire drive was plugged, I don't now if it has something to do with it.

Getting confused right now...as I already install lots of things (Adobe CS4 and Final Cut Studio 2) and lost lot of time, I don't know what to do or try.

For infos I haven't change the Mac Model name, maybe this is a solution...

Hey all. I'm a VERY late adopter... mainly because I can't afford to reformat right now.

I'm running Wolfie's script with the 9.6.0 voodoo kernel on a GA-EX58-UD5 and a Sapphire 4870 Dual DVI.

My question is whether anyone (if there is such a person out there) is running a system with the Darwin bootloader as per Wolfie's original script and has updated to 10.5.7 successfully?

I hIn the EFI partition, I have in the Extensions folder:

AppleSMBIOS

ArcMSR (Areca ARC-1222 RAID)

dsmos

HDAEnabler

IONetworkingFamily

LegacyAppleACHIPort

LegacyAppleIntelPIIXATA

LegacyHDAController

LegacyHDAPlatformDriver

LegacyIOACHIBlockStorage

LegacyJMicronJMB36xSATA

System

And I have the Natit to suit the 4870 with the 4870 driver pack (7_radeon_hd_48x0_drivers) installed and they're in the HDD's S/L/E.

Everything currently works.

Just want to make sure.

Cheers.

Thanks MAJ your a legend ;)

Unfortunately, all the UUID errors have come back. ;)

No biggy, it's not affecting anything. At least it's not like the sound assertion errors we used to have that would fill the log at 3 or 4 per second.

Finally sorted the 8-core issue .. thanks to scfp for the dsdt file .. found the mis-match when compared to the file generated by dsdt patcher .. still need to study that more though, but at least all 8 can now be engaged.

Geekbench shows an ok result

thxs

ncsa,

If you happen to have a copy of the dsdt file that your system created (that didn't work) and a copy of the one that was supplied to you, would you be able to post it for me? I'd like to compare them and see what can be done about this issue on the ASUS boards.

iamnicos,

It just may be that your KP are a result of the "MacPro4,1" mac identifier that we were warned about.

So, if you got a minute (heh), try going into the smbios.plist file in /Extra and edit the SMproductname string that has the "MacPro4,1" string. Change it to "MacPro3,1"

Good question.

All I know is that on one of my installs with Chameleon 1012, Voodoo-based 9.6.0 kernel, and 10.5.7, things seem to run okay. The only issues I had noticed (I didn't spend too much time in it), was in System reporting. In System Profiler, 'errors in gathering info' for Hardware and Memory. I don't mean wrong specs, just no info.

But, like you, I was curious about the older versions of the bootloaders, like PC-EFI v8 and v9 that's used in Wolf's EFI boot script.

I expected the biggest issue in using the 9.6.0 kernel in 10.5.7, but everything, except reporting, appeared normal.

GG!

Keep us up-to-date on that KP.

I just got my second KP. Both KP happens when I was using Safari 4.0 beta (first KP was with beta one and second KP was with beta 2). I just reverted back to Safari 3 and see if this alleviate the KP issue. Other than that my system is fully working as usual.

EDIT: With the 10.5.6 install previously, the system was very stable with 20+ days of use before a power outage but 0 KP problem.

Long story short, I'm currently staring at OSX 10.5.7 with resolution change and QE/CI, on my 4870. Having cleared what is by far the biggest hurdle in this process (45 installs), it's time to iron out the wrinkles.

I haven't messed with audio yet (I plan to make use of my Audigy 2 ZS Platinum), so the only wrinkle I'm seeing is the CPU. Under "System Profiler", the "Hardware" info reveals:

"There was an error while gathering this information."

"Activity Monitor" shows only one core. Before upgrading to 10.5.7, my vanilla 10.5.6 would show all eight "cores" and identify the CPU accurately.

Here was my installation process:

1: Run a modified version of DD script 3.5 (having removed LegacyAppleAHCIPort.kext, per suggestion).

2: Pick option 1 (2-7).

3: Choose the older Chameleon bootloader.

4: Upon install completion, add a PS/2 Keyboard pkg and repair permissions.

5: Boot the vanilla 10.5.6.

6: Update to 10.5.7 and reboot.

7: Situate the DVI ports thusly: Port 1, DVI->VGA adapter. Port 2, DVI->VGA->monitor.

Therefore, all of the kexts which are part of the 3.5 script (apart from LegacyAppleAHCIPort.kext) are installed - or were installed, if 10.5.7 superceded any of them. It is my guess that one or more of these kexts needs to be removed or updated, but I wouldn't know which. Truly, this is a small hurdle.

Any guesses?

If you're using the MacPro4,1 identifier, try changing it back to MacPro3,1 in /Extra/smbios.plist.

EDIT: But, I'd wait until you've fully tested Safari 3 out first.

I put Cham 1012 and Voodoo 9.6.0 on a 10.5.6 install and noticed the same errors in gathering system info.

Presently, I don't know of any way about this issue, as the new OS update is circumventing the usual reporting methods. I'd think that someone would soon release a AppleSMBIOS.kext update that would work with this combo.

I was going to ask if you were using the older bootloader, and sure enough, you are. This was my experience, too.

My decision to use the older bootloader was based on something I read about how 10.5.7 would tend to KP with the newer one. Since I'm 99% sure my DVI port experimentation was what ultimately allowed 10.5.7 to function, it's entirely possible that I could use the new bootloader and still get it to work.

Would installing the newer Chameleon with your script, on my current install, overwrite the current (old) Chameleon and result in something I could boot? Or is this a pretty bad idea? ;p Now that I have 10.5.7 up and running, I just about feel like I'd better not do another clean install.

This is correct, the original dsdt file did not have the CPU alias within it.. hence only the 4 cores.. I will need to recreate that again and can email these to you - the test drives used were bricked through me poking around... luckily I do not place my data or business at risk with these .. :)

While the links were discussing the Asus board, I as does scfg have a Gigabyte EX58-Extreme which is effectively the same as the UD5 with some extra cooling.

Heh. I understand.

The new bootloader installs in the same exact way as the old one, from the script point of view. It's just a different file. So, I'd be confident that the new one would cleanly overwrite the old one. I'm 99% confident.

You could always use CCC, SuperDuper, or Disk Utility and make a quick backup copy.

I like using Disk Utility to make a compressed DMG.

MAJ

Know of anyway to get the proc and ram to show up correctly on 10.5.7

Thanks

To get the processor type info, use my script "Modify processor info." It will create that info automatically and you won't have to type anything in - just hit enter and you're done.

The processor clock info is in /Extra/smbios.plist under SMmaximalclock string. Default is 3000.

RAM speed is in the same plist, under SMmemspeed.

RAM type is under SMmemtype. Change the string to 24.

MAJ
