digital_dreamer
Now all we need to know is if DD was doing this in the beginning when he initially got it working with the EFI boot install. Hmm... Certainly not intentionally. It may have happened after my numerous script tests and I may had inadvertently copied a version of the Voodoo kernel to the root directory of my boot from EFI setup. Who knows! Finally Update my Loader to Chameleon2 but now not Sure What to do with it? which kext to put there and which to leave in the Leopard Install. In my experience, it didn't work with all the kexts in the Extra. I suppose there were some unsettled dependencies. I just ended up putting them all back in S/L/E. Later, I may try to see what can safely be in Extra or not. Or, someone else can do all this work for us! Hi guys !!!! This is my first post so be kind !!! I thanks digital_dreamer, wolfienuke and all the other poster of this thread. I did everything to install with a boot efi partition and a vanilla partition LEO 10.5.6 and it worked. All the part of the tutorial, but i get random Kernel Panic and i'm not able to fix it. I think it's du to the 4gb bug with JmicronAtA.kext and the IOATAFAMILY.kext. What do you think and what can I do to fix it... Check the pix !!! Thank you all again !!! Hmmmm. It does look like a JMicron issue. But, the problem with that theory is that the included kext is supposed to fix that 4GB limit. Are you currently using those ports? Try disabling it in the BIOS and see if the KPs still occur. Ok, I made the decision to update to the new chameleon 2.0RC1, but I used the package to install it instead of a manual install (I should have known)... Here's what I did: Erased and partitioned an unused disk (So that if sh*t goes wrong - like it did - I would not kill my working install). I installed Mac OS X 10.5 to the newly created partition. I removed/installed required kexts. I installed Chameleon 2.0RC1, Voodoo kernel 9.6.0, and kexts on EFI partition, and rebooted. No luck... So I decided to manually install Chameleon/Voodoo on the EFI partition and I got much further (I also replaced mach_kernel on the system partition as well as noted a few posts above. I guess my problem is that I have made so many changes that I don't know where it all went wrong. Are there any simple tips to get chameleon working on the EFI Partition? Hey, guy! I haven't tried Chameleon with EFI boot, yet. But, it's running on a different partition. I guess my problem is that I have made so many changes that I don't know where it all went wrong. Oh, man, have I been there. I hate that, because the only alternative is to make a little change and test, make another little change and test, and that takes toooo long. So, I fool myself into making all these changes, because, surely, it shouldn't make any difference in operation. Nope. Sorry, I can't help, but let me know what you find out. I'd like to ask if anyone has got sleep to work on their Gigabyte setup and if so what their setup is? Sorry to go off topic. Besides, I saw no reason to go to a new bootloader since a simple F12 at POST gets you the same thing. And, beta version too but someone had to be a pathfinder. Everything is great except for the lack of RAID, Hot Swap eSATA drives, and sleep. The first two would be icing on the cake but (come on) the lack of S3 (STR) is inexcusable for our beloved Custom MAC Pro hacks. My specs are: Extreme version w/ F5 BIOS 920 @ 3.2GHz (watercooled) with 6GB RAM @ ~1066MHz 9500 GT driving 24in LCD (1920x1200) and 20in CRT (1600x1200) with QE/CI enabled Vertex II SSD HDDs 10.5.6 vanilla w/ 9.6 voodoo kernel VMWARE Fusion 2.0.3 to run Windows Let's not stop until we get it all! No S3 sleep, yet. Now this used to be working a little while back, but with all these updates, it has broken the chain. In my case, it appears to be a USB issue (as usually is the case), as I notice no USB support upon wake. I've tried OpenHaltRestart.kext, EHCISleepEnabler.kext, and various modified IOUSBFamily.kexts, but no dice. As for RAID, are you talking about hardware RAID support, because software RAID works, even in Chameleon 2. Somebody here had mentioned hot-swap eSATA working, but requires additional hacks. I haven't followed up on that, but would like to when I get time. regards, MAJ

jrhende
The KPs and jmicron. I had those too. I put in maxmem=3600 in the kernel options in com.apple.Boot.plist which worked. I sold my PATA drives and removed the maxmem workaround. Since then no more KPs and I changed nothing else including kexts and BIOS settings. Sleep S3 (STR) works now. My hibernation mode is set to 0 (I never changed it). Used pmset -g | grep hibernatemode to verify it. Have a 1.5TB Seagate and a 0.5TB Samsung SATAs on jmicron ports. Turned those off and booted. Sleep/resume works perfectly so far and am posting this via my USB keyboard. Sound still works. 4GB and 16GB USB sticks still work. Resumed windows in VMWare and it works. Goes to sleep in <5 seconds and wakes in <5 seconds.

BIOS Settings (USB, SATA, CPU atleast) Motherboard variant, UD5? UD4? Graphics card and driver? Kernel version Bootloader Are you using EFI or Boot132? Versions and names of kexts you are using? (I'm sure someone will come up with a simple command line to list this info, at least if you are on EFI) - One method would be to post a text file or a code quote of the output of "kextstat" when run in a terminal. Amount of memory, and configuration of memory (triple channel?) Boot.plist settings and kernel boot parameters Uh, that's all I can think of now.. but getting that should at least be a good start for us others to get sleep up and running. Could you tell us some details of your configuration? Namely: Yes, please do! My hibernatemode has always been set at 0 with the BIOS set for STR, although I did try 3 once. You're not running Chameleon 2, are you, because the Chameleon 2 thread is full of complaints about STR not working. regards, MAJ

chadisawesome
I don't want to be "that guy", who posts something, and then 30 seconds later finds a solution on his own. I've been at this since 6pm yesterday (that's 23hours with 5 hours sleep) putting all the hardware together, and through a slew of trail and error I am where I'm at, and I can't seem to get any further. I have the UD5 board, 12gig of ram, 920 processor, 9800gt graphics card, sata harddrive, sata dvd burner. when I first ran the instal script from Digital dream, I was getting the seatbelt.kext panics, so to fix that I ran the wolfs EFI partition script. From there I lost audio, and I haven't been able to get it back. I had it before I did the EFI thing, but now it's gone. I'm trying to use the onboard audio. I also have yet to be able to get the sata dvdburner to be recognized. I've tried it in different slots, and nothing. the third problem I'm having is a weird one. I'm getting kernal panics when trying to transfer a lot of data over the ethernet port. I'm trying to copy an 8gig zip of music over the network and that causes a panic. I've also noticed that if I go to a site to download something, I'll start off at around 1MB/sec, but slowly drop till I'm around 100KB/sec and it takes forever. I think this is related. I've read through pretty much all 33 pages.. I saw that someone had an audio problem and they were told that new kexts have been released, but I never saw if they were uploaded or not. I'm getting absolutely nothing in the system profiler for audio or the dvd drive. I wanna thank everyone on there for being so helpful so far, this is my second hackintosh so far, the first is an htpc. I know that issues come up, and I've been able to fix the issues myself through trail and error so far, but these are just getting me and I don't know what to do. oh, I wanted to post what's in my Extensions folder tosee if that helps: -rw-r--r--@ 1 root wheel 6148 Apr 11 17:57 .DS_Store drw-r--r--@ 3 root wheel 102 Apr 11 21:10 AppleHDA.kext drw-r--r--@ 3 root wheel 102 Apr 11 17:57 AppleSMBIOS.kext drw-r--r--@ 3 root wheel 102 Apr 11 17:57 HDAEnabler.kext drw-r--r--@ 3 root wheel 102 Apr 11 17:57 IONetworkingFamily.kext drw-r--r--@ 3 root wheel 102 Apr 11 17:57 LegacyAppleAHCIPort.kext drw-r--r--@ 3 root wheel 102 Apr 11 17:57 LegacyAppleIntelPIIXATA.kext drw-r--r--@ 3 root wheel 102 Apr 11 17:57 LegacyHDAController.kext drw-r--r--@ 3 root wheel 102 Apr 11 17:57 LegacyHDAPlatformDriver.kext drw-r--r--@ 3 root wheel 102 Apr 11 17:57 LegacyIOAHCIBlockStorage.kext drw-r--r--@ 3 root wheel 102 Apr 11 17:57 LegacyJMicronATA.kext drw-r--r--@ 3 root wheel 102 Apr 11 17:57 Natit.kext drw-r--r--@ 3 root wheel 102 Apr 11 17:57 SMBIOSEnabler.kext drw-r--r--@ 4 root wheel 136 Apr 11 17:57 System.kext drw-r--r--@ 3 root wheel 102 Apr 11 17:57 dsmos.kext drw-r--r--@ 3 root wheel 102 Apr 11 17:57 seatbelt.kext I added the appleHDA and HDA enabler earlier because it was working when I was using them, should I have deleted the legacy ones before continuing? Ciaraan
Hello everyone. Beforehand, dark_dreamer, I gotta tip my hand to you. your Script is amazing. And I mean amazing! Top notch work! Thanks! I was very happy to see the package contains the kexts to my P6T deluxe (using an i7 920). I ran the procedure as is outlined (Dark_dreamer's method with his script). And it all seems to come out nicely. Here are a few quick points: I ran this installer on my MacBook Pro, since I can't get the P6t to boot with IDeneb or XXX. If someone can tell me how to use these distros, i'd be very grateful! I am using OS X 10.5.6 retail DVD. off an ISO i got from somewhere naughty. :3 The procedure finishes correctly, but when I reboot, Darwin cowardly refuses to go any further than the all infamous Using 16384 buffer headers and 4096 cluster IO buffer headers. Thanks. -R There's one issue that comes up when trying to install from a different Mac and that's related to the DSDT patcher. When you run the post-patch (which includes the DSDT patch) from another Mac, it creates a DSDT.aml file based on THAT Mac, not the hackintosh you plan on running the install from. This creates a incompatible file that contains no relevant information for your hackintosh and can cause boot failure. That file, which is located on the root directory of your system drive, needs to be deleted and replaced with a properly patched one. I don't know if your system can run without it at all, but try deleting that file and see if you can boot. Ultimately, the goal is to be able to boot up that system and run the DSDT patcher on that system for a proper patch. best of wishes, MAJ

I am running 10.5.6, using wolfienuke's install procedure. So, to the best of my knowledge, there should be no version-mismatch between kernel and system.kext. I have however replaced the vanilla kernel at the root (for vmware compatibility, as discussed a couple of pages back). Maybe this is the perp, I could roll back and check that. HeartQ8
Dude. Congrats!!! Me and DD tried for a long time to get Fusion working on EFI partition method with no success. This workaround seems so obvious now, but thanks for bringing it to light. cheers Glad to see this issue been solved and hope to be in DD coming update. BUT still one issue left which is computer will not go to sleep if it is idle for a setting time although putting the PC to sleep by main menu selecting is working and it will wake-up without any KP or problem. it is working on DD script but not EFT script. it seems one of the kexts. Keep up the good work.
chadisawesome
Are you or were you running 10.5.6 or 10.5.5? Nope. Started with 10.5.6 and it booted up and audio works. However I was only showing 4 cores. i was able to move music from my server to my hackintosh and play it, but when I tried to transfer a lot of music at once(the 8 gig zip) I was getting KP. Then when trying to instal some software I was getting the KPs from the seatbelt.kext. So I set up the EFI partition with wolfs script which fixed the seatbelt problem, and gave me 8 cores, but killed my audio. It also killed my graphics, but I knew how to fix that from before. What kind of broadband do you have? 100KB/sec is rather respectable and very server dependent. But, a KP shouldn't be happening. Have you tried resetting the CMOS or BIOS? How about RAM tests? Are you using the JMicron (Gigabyte) ports for any drives? I have fios. I could use my laptop and download the same file (I was downloading iwork 09) my laptop would get 1.1-1.2MB/sec for the download which is where the hackintosh would start but then it would slowly drop to the 100KB/sec. My solution was download it via the laptop, put it on an external and then copy it over. I did not do any ram tests could that be causing things? What kind of ramtests can I run? As for the ports using, I tried plugging the harddrive and the dvdburner into the blue sata ports this gave me the "waiting for boot device error" so I have the harddrive plugged into the white port which works. The dvd drive doesn't work if I plug it in blue or white. Is this list what's in the script's folder or the actual EFI partition?Have you tried the latest kexts for EFI boot from my guide? They are updated versions of wolfienuke's package. Did your audio work when you added the AppleHDA and HDAEnabler? Did you put them in the main directory (System/Library/Extensions)? That list is from the EFI partition. I have your EFI boot kexts downloaded but I assumed they were the same as in wolfienukes script. Should I whip the entire EFI extensions directory and replace with the ones in your EFI_boot_kexts folder? The audio didn't work when I added the AppleHDA and HDAenabler, but I left the other ones in there as you can see... should I have removed them? EDIT: I've been working on a few different things here...I've been able to get sound by re-running wolfies script. I also have been able to find my dvd burner by plugging it into a different sata port. I was trying another harddrive too, and it seems it just doens't like me to plug things into certain sata ports.. I'm not sure about that issue, but it's at least working now. the main harddrive is in the top-back white sata port and the second harddrive was read from the bottom-front sata port the burner is in the bottom-back sata port, and if I tried to plug it into where the second harddrive was it threw a kp. I'm still getting kp's now, but I can't recreate them. They seem to be problems with the network ports if I had to put my finger on it. They usually happen when I'm doing stuff that would make use of them, playing music over the network, downloading large things (updates from adobe), ect. I kept getting kp's that looked like this: panic(cpu 1 caller 0x0042F2E5): "getPhysicalSegment() out of 32b range 0x100063000, len 0x1000, class IOGeneralMemoryDescriptor "@/Users/andyvand/Downloads/Kernals/voodoobuild-0.3.1/xnu-1228.9.59/iokit/Kernal/IOMemoryDescriptor.cpp:1473 while trying to install photoshop so I removed two sticks of ram and this didn't happen anymore and I was able to finish the install. However, when downloading updates, I got another kp. I downloaded memtest86+ and I was going to run that overnight tonight to see if the memory is a problem, but I'm still thinking it's something to do with the ethernet ports. I'm still getting weird results with it, and this is the one thing holding me back. Could this be a bad motherboard? That would account for the weird issues with the sata ports and bad ethernet ports. I was thinking of installing windows on another harddrive and see if I still get these issues to figure out if it's a motherboard problem. Any other ideas? edit #2: Another sign pointing to ethernet. The computer dropped ethernet while listening to some music (on a shared drive) and then wouldn't come back. I had to go into network prefs turn it off, and then back on, I lost connection to the internet and everything. So I switched cables to the other port. When I tried to bring it back I got a message saying that a new ethernet card! had been found and it was naming it (en5) and the other port which wasn't working was named (en3) on top of that (en0) and (en1) were both red and not working. So I'm sure there is some sort of ethernet problem here. Does this point to a bad kext, or a bad hardware problem, because I'm now pretty certain that this is what is causing the panics I'm getting now. I am at a point now that rebooting causes a kp unless I have the ethernet unplugged, and even then sometimes I need to run it in -v mode (which doens't make sense) and that seems to skip whatever the error is and it comes up. After plugging in the ethernet cable at that point is when it crashes.
Extremely Awesome
I could not make the audio work with GIGABYTE GA EX58-Extreme.. Is the topic apply to this board or should I use another method?
artice
Hi. I'm using EFI partition boot method with the latest version of kexts (Apr 2, 2009) posted by DD on the first page of this topic. Thanks for DD, wolfie and everyone on this topic. My UD5 system is quite stable for 3+ months, but there's one thing that I can't figure out how to fix it: Bluetooth pairing. I'm using Apple Wireless Keyboard and Wireless Mighty Mouse. Both devices work fine. However, when I turned on or restarted my computer, "A bluetooth device is attempting to connect" diaglog pops up. It seems like the Bluetooth keyboard couldn't be found by system after restarting the system, while my mouse works without any problem. I need to remove the keyboard on the Bluetooth preferences, and re-add the keyboard as a new device. This never happened on Vista with the same hardware, so Bluetooth adaptor (corega CG-BT2USB01CB) might not be the problem. The same keyboard works without such problem on my MacBook, so the Keyboard might not be the problem. Are there anybody who have the same problem like me? HeartQ8
I could not make the audio work with GIGABYTE GA EX58-Extreme.. Is the topic apply to this board or should I use another method? I have the same mobo and it is working on both way DD script and EFI script but for one output only. Last night I did install and test the new Voodoo-HDA.kext and it is working too. did you see the speaker icon on the first line on your screen? if so than it is system preference or cable testing if not try to install the last DD update on Aprel 2ed. good luck. Hakintos
The fact that the AppleSMBIOS - 28 is present shows there are patched kexts in the ISO that are loading. That's good. But, there are two other issues that send flags: 1. There is a LegacyAppleAHCIPort that is attempting to load, but doesn't. Likely because it is not a real, but fake kext. This kext does not belong there, so why or how did it end up there is my question. Where did it come from? This is not a showstopper in itself, but it makes me wonder what else is present that shouldn't be or not present that should be. 2. The other issue is the fact that it is loading the built-in AppleRTL8169Ethernet, which fails, of course. Which leads me to wonder if the RLTR1000.kext is, indeed, present. Is that kext not part of your ISO? The fact that the AppleRTL8169Ethernet.kext is present reveals that the standard OS X install is present and readable (off of DVD), so that's good. rd=disk[n]s3 Is the above what you actually have in the boot.plist? This disk # "n" needs to be that of the DVD without any brackets, whatever that happens to be in your system. If you can do this, the following would be a more predictable method of getting the DVD to boot from that ISO: Find the UUID of your DVD using Disk Utility/Info or in Terminal: diskutil info /Volumes/Mac\ OS\ X\ Install\ DVD Then use that UUID in your boot prompt or better yet, your ISO boot.plist so you don't have to keep typing it out at the prompt. boot-uuid=88888888-4444-4444-4444-CCCCCCCCCCCC (8-digit#-4-digit#-4-digit#-4-digit#-12-digit#) put this in the kernel flags string with: busratio=20 -v -f Should look something like this: busratio=20 -v -f boot-uuid=F7D74206-F85B-3F31-92F3-5C4D85E8110E regards, MAJ rd(0,1)/mach_kernel.voodoo boot-uuid=8A69AC47-7A42-3DC6-A3A6-287F58A72406 busratio=20 -v -f What should I do? mrmacintosh31
EX85-UD5 on vanilla kernel now a reality Guys I'm so excited, it seems I have managed to install and boot my Hackintosh with the vanilla Apple i7 kernel I managed to get my hands on a OS X install disk that comes with the new i7 MacPro. I made an image of it and tried the installation. Kernel on the disk is 9.6.3. 1. I booted from working OS X 10.5.5 installation, logged in as root 2. Installed OSX from install disk that comes with MacPro i7. I left "Printer Drivers", "Additional Fonts" and "Language Translations" out of the installation to minimize installation time and used space. 3. Removed /System/Library/Extensions/AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext and /System/Library/Extensions/AppleHDA.kext 4. Copied my modified com.apple.boot.plist to /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration 5. Copied dsmos.kext, RealtekR1000.kext, AppleHDA.kext and HDAEnabler.kext from Digital Dreamers Kext package (GA-EX58-UD5_Kexts.zip) to /System/Library/Extensions 6. Installed Chameleon 2.0-rc431 7. Deleted /System/Library/Extensions.mkext - QE/CI, sound and network all work. - Shutdown quits OS X but motherboard power sometimes stays on (fans continue spinning). I removed AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext because it causes a Kernel Panic in boot with the error message: panic (cpu 0 caller 0x76FC3460): "No HPETs available.. CPU(s) configured incorrectly/n"0/SourceCache/AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement I tried playing with HPET and power management options in the bios but this did not prevent AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement crashing, so I just removed the kext. I'm a bit new to this OSx86 stuff so I'm not sure what kinds of modifications Chameleon makes to the system, but this is very promising I just installed the system, so I have not yet much experience with it. In the attached Archive.zip is system.log, com.apple.boot.plist, and a couple of pictures. You can see that System Preferences / Power Management icon has been changed. nateB
Is there any relation to the use of the modified Voodoo kernel posted in this thread and the inability to fully use Java? I can't open any web applications or Java Preferences. I'm on a retail install using the DD method.
