miketress
I'm running a GA-EX58-EXTREME, i7920, 3Gig of memory.. But I've got two problems: When booting using the EFI-partition method, my system hangs at the mDNSResponder hostname setup .. When I use the other method, my system boots fine but I cannot use my SATA or/and my IDE DVD-writers. OS X recognizes them but doesn't mount any disks. Is there anyone who recognizes these problems or knows a fix ? Mike
walterav
Hey MAJ, There are no logs in the application support/vmware/Bootcamp... folder. The only file is Boot Camp partition.vmwarevm which contains 2 .vdk files. (1 is 32kb the other 4kb) EDIT: Gotta say I really appreciate you going through all the effort troubleshooting this. Once we figure it out, a lot of users would benefit. I still think it's a hardware probing issue. No problem, thanks for looking into the issues for me and others. Tried Vmware with just 1 stick of RAM installed. Alas, still KPs. This isn't from a boot from EFI partition system is it? If it is I'd be *very* interested in your kexts Hi, A couple of posts back I described the software setup I'm using. Also my reason why not to go with EFI partition because of DEPENDENCIES!!!, its only good for a decrypter... for now... WIFI: The only thing I can say about wifi "asus wl 138g v2", have used over 3 different motherboard types and all work great! One time it went wrong and it went wrong for a week... The thing was, if windows XP loads a wrong driver for it, slipstreamed disc / driver pack, windows was not able to connect to WPA networks, In mac the card also malfunctioned and was also not able to connect to WPA network, very strange... Even when swapping the card back in a machine that worked great didn;t bother, so I thought the card was broken. Than on the machine on which the card was working great, I booted to windows with the malfunctioning card, there it strangely enough worked fine... Than I booted back to OSX and it also worked fine... Than I put the card back in the other motherboard... and it also worked fine... So I think your problem may be related with Windows too with a bad driver, or a broken wifi CARD. Also I'm not running any other os on the system, So no other driver/firmware is injected into hardware like Realtek LAN/Broadcom wifi/HDA when restarting from windows to mac... or linux... dual gbit Realtek LAN: It requires to remove the 8169 kext from apple's vanilla IONetworkingFamily.kext, So COPY the kext to your desktop, right mouse SHOW PACKAGE CONTENTS, go to the PLUGIN FOLDER, remove the KEXT, replace with the PSYSTAR kext, Put the WHOLE THING back were it belongs... chown -R 0:0 * chmod -R 755 * Restart and you should be FINE!!! DSDT.aml well, was planing to use it, but on this setup it gave more troubles than fixes with a patched kernel, So i'm only gonna use DSDT.aml if vanillakernel is working and there is more info about it... Without DSDT.aml my system, restarts fine and also shutsdown fine... with the voodookernel. On a other system with vanilla kernel, DSDT.aml is needed and than is sleeps/restarts and shutdown fine
Cosmin Petre
Cosmin Petre,Are you on the F4 BIOS? Trying to think of any other variables affecting the VMware. I can only conclude it may be other connected hardware devices like graphic cards. I see you're using a NVIDIA 7300GT. How is it set up? Are you using EFI strings or injectors? If injectors, which one? I'd like for others with this board to report what card they have and whether VMware is working or not. Now that I think about it, wolkienuke has a ATI card like mine and isn't able to run VMware, so that just blows that theory. regards, MAJ F4 Bios I'm afraid. FYI I'm using EFi string. I'll try removing the EFI string and using some different injectors later on when I get a chance, and see if that makes any difference. cheers

digital_dreamer
Hi, A couple of posts back I described the software setup I'm using. Also my reason why not to go with EFI partition because of DEPENDENCIES!!!, its only good for a decrypter... for now... To be fair, the Boot from EFI Partition isn't the problem for VMware Fusion. Works fine on my system. There are a number of those with the Boot-132 setup that cannot run VMware Fusion as well, for reasons no one knows yet. Sure there are dependency issues with the EFI setup, but most of them are minor and certainly are not show-stoppers. Those that absolutely require a partner kext in the same directory, simply have their dependent kexts installed on the EFI partition with them. Truth be told, the Boot from EFI Partition setup produces no more valid errors than my standard Boot-132 setup. By "valid" errors, I mean errors that must be fixed for full functionality. My current setup is flawless, as far as I am concerned. dual gbit Realtek LAN:It requires to remove the 8169 kext from apple's vanilla IONetworkingFamily.kext, So COPY the kext to your desktop, right mouse SHOW PACKAGE CONTENTS, go to the PLUGIN FOLDER, remove the KEXT, replace with the PSYSTAR kext, Put the WHOLE THING back were it belongs... chown -R 0:0 * chmod -R 755 * Restart and you should be FINE!!! I don't see any reason why the Apple-supplied 8169 kext should be removed. It isn't conflicting with the working LAN driver. The IONetworkingFamily.kexts included in both of D_D and WolfieNuke's packages already include the Psystar 1.8.1 version of the sourceforge.net driver. No additional action is needed. Your "screaming" with the exclamation points is hurting my ears. regards, MAJ
walterav
Sure! Who wouldn't want to see this when they boot their system?: Additionally, there'll be a graphical boot screen as the OS loads. Ah! Yeah, got to restart the VMware daemon. Don't know why, yet. The plist responsible for starting it is here: /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.vmware.launchd.vmware.plist and contains this inside: <dict> <key>Label</key> <string>com.vmware.launchd.vmware</string> <key>ProgramArguments</key> <array> <string>/Library/Application Support/VMware Fusion/boot.sh</string> <string>--start</string> </array> <key>RunAtLoad</key> <true/> </dict> I see that it's loading at boot, but then immediately quits. So, why is it quiting? And, why is it okay to run later? Fusion has no such problems with the Boot from EFI Partition setup. I got the logs to send to VMware. In the mean time, you (who have VMware fusion running, but need to restart the daemon all the time) can use this little script that restarts the daemon and launches Fusion. Just double-click to run. It assumes Fusion is in your main Applications folder. Start_VMware_Fusion hmmmm. Don't see the problem. I can mount the ISO and open/run it within Terminal, select various volumes and go as far as punching in my password, at which point I stop. Does it error out after this point? I see your Issue 198 on xnu-dev regarding [TSC] skipping synchronization/ EDIT: Your posted issue mentions this: *Ran chameleon v11 installer You got to be kidding. woot4fun
Is it a retail install? If its not then you will have issues. I used alot of distributions and they are all bunk. Just use EFI Partition Boot and the clouds will dissipate. I have no problems except for vmware which I will take another crack at soon. For the meantime just use virtualbox from sun. And the noise, you probably have a noisy choke(motherboard), is it coming from the hard drive or the motherboard, details sir. That is not a big deal if its from the motherboard. Yes, retail install with the DD method. Detailed process for me.. Boot from previously installed drive. Erase new drive pre-install the new drive install 10.5 from original retail apple leopard dvd install 10.5.6 combo updater post-install new drive cd /System/Library/Extensions/ rm -Rf GeForce* rm -Rf NVDA* rm -Rf NVinject* rm -Rf ATI* Run 9f23 installer for 10.5.5 video stuff that works with my video card copy boot.plist from working drive to new drive Reboot. I could not get the EFI partition method to work. The noise is not from the motherboard, it is amplified by my speaker system. If I turn the speakers off, I hear nothing. mattrb
I'd like for others with this board to report what card they have and whether VMware is working or not. Is there anyone who recognizes these problems or knows a fix ? Mike Found out this was a bug in wolfienuke's script that increases the version number. Dont do that and you should be lucky. The mDNSResponder hostname setup hang is from the extensions being buggy and not allowing the booting of the computer.
dacuda
Anyone know if it is possible to install Leopard onto a raid 5 setup on the ICH10 controller. I installed Kalyway 10.5.2 onto an extra PATA drive that I had (to try to follow the guide) and disk utility saw my raid 5 as 3 seperate drives. Once installed it says that I don't have any hardware raid devices or that they are not installed properly. Has anyone messed with this yet? And if so, what is the solution if there is one? Thanks for your help. One other strange thing to mention... after doing the install of Kalyway 10.5.2, all the context/file menus show up blank. I can still click on the choice I want (by guessing where it is), and the menus will show for a split second before the menu closes. Definately not long enough to read the entire thing. I'm so sorry and my condolences to you. Must be a difficult time. No need to apologize, but I did get worried that something was up. My father passed away last year. I still chuckle when I think of that "I'm too high to post right now" comment. I really don't know why Fusion is actually able to run on my system, now. Sure, the daemon quits on boot on the Boot-132 install and restarting it will allow Fusion to run a VM, but it runs flawlessly on the Boot from EFI Partition install without having to restart the daemon. Why this system is able to run a VM and some others aren't, I haven't a clue. Yet. Cosmin Petre has tried to duplicate just about everything on my system to get it working on his, to no avail. I thought the only possible issue left was the graphics, but you have the same card as I do. There are plenty of logs to view regarding that daemon activity. I'll post them up when I get home this afternoon. @hobes270 What is your bios version? I had the same problem with sleep with bios F5g. mattrb
Dear DD, I have found a Realtek driver here they claim to have fixed the airport problem that I have. This is really important and is an impediment for me from having a quality hackincrack.

ZoroLives
Brief install procedure* Firstly I installed kalyway 10.5.2 using kabyl kernel on an empty GUID USB drive. This was to be my maintenance drive. * Once booted in Kalyway I installed OS X using a legit retail .iso onto a clean GUID drive with no other partitions. I updated this with the 10.5.6 Combo updater and then ran Wolfs script to install EFI and the bundled kexts. ... Can I get some more information on this step please? I have ordered my parts and I am working hard to get up to speed before they all arrive. Most important, what can I do, "NOW" with what I have? I can go purchase a thumb drive if I know what size I needed. Or better yet I could burn a DVD and use that instead of a thumb drive (yes?). ... EDITED: I would still like to hear more about the thumb drive initial booting procedure. However, I did find a Kalyway and it is taking 12+ hours to download so , all night on that one. jplee4907
Hi DD Just a quick question. I'm using your EFI install with perfect condition. Thanks again. I've been using a USB HDD as my Time Machine backup. If I want to restore the contents in the TM to other new HDD, so I intend to make perfectly the same system environment in an extra HDD. I believe I have to install a boot loader in the new HDD, right? Then, do I just have to run your pre-patch before the restore or after the restore? Or, any other way? I was also wondering if I just go ahead with your guide and install the whole thing with 10.5.6 again, then when start, I can use migration? Which way would be the safest way to restore? Thanks... Even some of the dialog boxes were the same way. As you can imagine, it makes it nearly impossible to do much of anything, including following the instructions. This thread was made for Core i7 and GA-EX58-UD5 specific issues. Any graphics or non-motherboard related issues should be discussed in their specific forums. I just don't want this thread to get out of hand like the old thread. I still have a few outstanding issues (most importantly VMWare Fusion), incorrect/missing RAM specs in System Profiler and some other smaller issues. I am also waiting for the new Chameleon boot loader so I can add it to my scripts (since it will work from EFI Partition) My system has been incredibly stable and has since moved from my desk (for tweaking and troubleshooting) to a new Antec case. Other than crashing with Fusion, my system has been up 24/7 for over a month now.

Other than crashing with Fusion, my system has been up 24/7 for over a month now. I'm doing the EFI Boot method and it's awesome! We really appreciate the everything you and DD have done to get everything working. I'm also having the VMWare issue. I wonder if it's because of a bad video card profile? I know that's not mobo related (sorry for posting esp. after you've just said something about it ) , but OSX tells me I have a 512 MB NVIDIA card but I only have a 256 MB 8600 GT. Since VMWare probably uses low-level video accesses, I wonder if that's what is causing KP? The only problems I've had with the "virgin" EFI setup so far have been with VMWare and World of Goo (for OSX). Both Kernel Panic. Also I had to manually patch the audio using the HDA drivers posted. I "upgraded" my kernel to 9.6 along with the 10.5.6 seatbelt kexts and I'm getting KP everytime I open up a DMG file (i.e. like Firefox). Has anyone found a fix to this? I'm considering downgrading back to the previous kernel\seatbelt kext unless there is a good reason to stay at 9.6. The reason I upgraded was to try to see if that would fix VMWare\World of Goo and get OSX to show my 3rd slot of RAM. I'm upgrading the BIOS to F5 now to see if that fixes the RAM issue. Other than crashing with Fusion, my system has been up 24/7 for over a month now. I went into my boot-132 setup and currently am not able to produce any VMware errors like before. In fact, I no longer need to restart the VMware daemon to launch the VM. This was before I even upgraded to Fusion 2.0.2. All I remember doing is installing the new 1.6.2a37 3in2out audio kexts (removes front mic, so that no "fMikeyDriver" sound assertion errors show in log) and turning off the on-board Gigabyte SATA controller. Gaaaa! I then installed 2.0.2 and I went back to reinstall the older 3in3out audio kexts and turned the JMicron controller back on, but still no errors. Everything's peachy. Can't troubleshoot something if it doesn't produce errors. Anyhow, below are the errors from previously. Although they may not mean anything now, perhaps they may reveal some clues to someone. What we really need are logs from those that can't get Fusion running, but those logs with good info (inside the VM, not console) likely have dissipated from repeated launches: 2/11/09 7:11:25 PM com.vmware.launchd.vmware[61] VMware Fusion 128865: Starting VMware Fusion: 2/11/09 7:11:25 PM VMware Fusion 128865[71] Starting VMware Fusion: 2/11/09 7:11:25 PM com.vmware.launchd.vmware[61] kextload: can't get/map kernel symbols 2/11/09 7:11:25 PM com.vmware.launchd.vmware[61] kextload: a link/load error occured for kernel extension /Library/Application Support/VMware Fusion/kexts/vmmon.kext 2/11/09 7:11:25 PM com.vmware.launchd.vmware[61] link/load failed for extension /Library/Application Support/VMware Fusion/kexts/vmmon.kext 2/11/09 7:11:25 PM com.vmware.launchd.vmware[61] (run kextload with -t for diagnostic output) 2/11/09 7:11:25 PM com.apple.launchd[1] (com.vmware.launchd.vmware[61]) Exited with exit code: 1 2/11/09 7:18:02 PM [0x0-0x1c01c].com.vmware.fusion[535] NOT_IMPLEMENTED bora/vmx/main/vmmonPosix.c:1582 2/11/09 7:18:02 PM ReportCrash[539] Formulating crash report for process vmware-vmx[538] 2/11/09 7:18:02 PM ReportCrash[539] Saved crashreport to /Library/Logs/CrashReporter/vmware-vmx_2009-02-11-191802_digital-dreamers-macbook-pro.crash using uid: 0 gid: 0, euid: 0 egid: 0 2/11/09 7:18:03 PM [0x0-0x1c01c].com.vmware.fusion[535] VMware Fusion Error: 2/11/09 7:18:03 PM [0x0-0x1c01c].com.vmware.fusion[535] VMware Fusion unrecoverable error: (vmx) 2/11/09 7:18:03 PM [0x0-0x1c01c].com.vmware.fusion[535] NOT_IMPLEMENTED bora/vmx/main/vmmonPosix.c:1582 2/11/09 7:18:03 PM [0x0-0x1c01c].com.vmware.fusion[535] Please request support. 2/11/09 7:18:03 PM [0x0-0x1c01c].com.vmware.fusion[535] To collect data to submit to VMware support, choose "Collect Support Information" from the Help menu. 2/11/09 7:18:03 PM [0x0-0x1c01c].com.vmware.fusion[535] You can also run "/Library/Application Support/VMware Fusion/vm-support.tool" directly. 2/11/09 7:18:03 PM [0x0-0x1c01c].com.vmware.fusion[535] We will respond on the basis of your support entitlement. 2/11/09 7:18:03 PM [0x0-0x1c01c].com.vmware.fusion[535] Press "Enter" to continue... 2/11/09 7:30:03 PM [0x0-0x1c01c].com.vmware.fusion[535] NOT_IMPLEMENTED bora/vmx/main/vmmonPosix.c:1582 2/11/09 7:30:03 PM ReportCrash[769] Formulating crash report for process vmware-vmx[768] 2/11/09 7:30:03 PM ReportCrash[769] Saved crashreport to /Library/Logs/CrashReporter/vmware-vmx_2009-02-11-193003_digital-dreamers-macbook-pro.crash using uid: 0 gid: 0, euid: 0 egid: 0 2/11/09 7:30:04 PM [0x0-0x1c01c].com.vmware.fusion[535] VMware Fusion Error: 2/11/09 7:30:04 PM [0x0-0x1c01c].com.vmware.fusion[535] VMware Fusion unrecoverable error: (vmx) 2/11/09 7:30:04 PM [0x0-0x1c01c].com.vmware.fusion[535] NOT_IMPLEMENTED bora/vmx/main/vmmonPosix.c:1582 2/11/09 7:30:04 PM [0x0-0x1c01c].com.vmware.fusion[535] Please request support. 2/11/09 7:30:04 PM [0x0-0x1c01c].com.vmware.fusion[535] To collect data to submit to VMware support, choose "Collect Support Information" from the Help menu. 2/11/09 7:30:04 PM [0x0-0x1c01c].com.vmware.fusion[535] You can also run "/Library/Application Support/VMware Fusion/vm-support.tool" directly. 2/11/09 7:30:04 PM [0x0-0x1c01c].com.vmware.fusion[535] We will respond on the basis of your support entitlement. 2/11/09 7:30:04 PM [0x0-0x1c01c].com.vmware.fusion[535] Press "Enter" to continue... 2/11/09 7:37:09 PM com.vmware.launchd.vmware[61] VMware Fusion 128865: Starting VMware Fusion: 2/11/09 7:37:09 PM VMware Fusion 128865[69] Starting VMware Fusion: 2/11/09 7:37:09 PM com.vmware.launchd.vmware[61] kextload: can't get/map kernel symbols 2/11/09 7:37:09 PM com.vmware.launchd.vmware[61] kextload: a link/load error occured for kernel extension /Library/Application Support/VMware Fusion/kexts/vmmon.kext 2/11/09 7:37:09 PM com.vmware.launchd.vmware[61] link/load failed for extension /Library/Application Support/VMware Fusion/kexts/vmmon.kext 2/11/09 7:37:09 PM com.vmware.launchd.vmware[61] (run kextload with -t for diagnostic output) 2/11/09 7:37:09 PM com.apple.launchd[1] (com.vmware.launchd.vmware[61]) Exited with exit code: 1 2/11/09 8:12:33 PM com.vmware.launchd.vmware[61] VMware Fusion 128865: Starting VMware Fusion: 2/11/09 8:12:33 PM VMware Fusion 128865[73] Starting VMware Fusion: 2/11/09 8:12:34 PM com.vmware.launchd.vmware[61] kextload: can't get/map kernel symbols 2/11/09 8:12:34 PM com.vmware.launchd.vmware[61] kextload: a link/load error occured for kernel extension /Library/Application Support/VMware Fusion/kexts/vmmon.kext 2/11/09 8:12:34 PM com.vmware.launchd.vmware[61] link/load failed for extension /Library/Application Support/VMware Fusion/kexts/vmmon.kext 2/11/09 8:12:34 PM com.vmware.launchd.vmware[61] (run kextload with -t for diagnostic output) 2/11/09 8:12:34 PM com.apple.launchd[1] (com.vmware.launchd.vmware[61]) Exited with exit code: 1 I'm doing the EFI Boot method and it's awesome! We really appreciate the everything you and DD have done to get everything working. I'm also having the VMWare issue. I wonder if it's because of a bad video card profile? OSX tells me I have a 512 MB NVIDIA card but I only have a 256 MB 8600 GT. The reason I upgraded was to try to see if that would fix VMWare\World of Goo. Are you sure you have the 10.5.6 seatbelt kext? Do you KP on every dmg or just some? The bundleversion on mine is 107.10. Is this what you have (assuming mine is correct)? regards, MAJ P.S. rickwu
I got the seatbelt.kext from one of your earlier posts (Feb 10 2009, 04:20 PM). I'll play around with more DMGs and update this post if I can get one to work. bash-3.2# uname -a Darwin mac-pro 9.6.0 Darwin Kernel Version 9.6.0: Wed Dec 31 00:51:24 CET 2008; Voodoo; Release 1.1 :xnu-1228.9.59-voodoo/BUILD/obj/RELEASE_I386 i386 bash-3.2# bash-3.2# more version.plist <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/ PropertyList-1.0.dtd"> <plist version="1.0"> <dict> <key>BuildVersion</key> <string>14</string> <key>CFBundleShortVersionString</key> <string>107.10</string> <key>CFBundleVersion</key> <string>107.10</string> <key>ProjectName</key> <string>Seatbelt</string> <key>SourceVersion</key> <string>1071100</string> </dict> </plist> I'm also getting the sound assertion error. Sound assertion "0 == fMikeyDriver" failed in "/SourceCache/AppleHDA/AppleHDA-162.1.37/AppleHDA/AppleHDADriver.cpp" at line 1063 goto handler I can try updating the 1.6.2a37 3in2out audio kexts and try VMWare again and post my results. Where can I get the 1.6.2a37 3in2out audio kexts?
gengstapo
I don't know about it working with your specs, though I'm pretty sure it would. I didn't have success with the latest version (4.6), so have uploaded the one that works for me. Give it a try: Temperature Monitor 4.5.1 regards, MAJ thanks man! goin' to try soon ive update the result later
