I applied the EFI string using OSX86 Tool & 'display: family specific matching fails' repeatedly appears however the system boots but still no acceleration.

 

I then removed the EFI string using OSX86 and pasted it into efistring.txt and ran Wolf's tool. 'display: family specific matching fails' repeatedly appears however the system does not boot! the last line of code is:

 

InterfaceNamer: no network interfaces, could not update platform UUID

Both will accomplish the same thing, but be aware that OSx86 Tool will attempt to save the changes to the main partition (Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration), not EFI partition. You would need to copy that updated plist into wolfienduke's script folder. But, you probably knew that.

 

EDIT: If you don't already have a EFI string for that card, why don't you download EFIStudio, as it can create one for you?

Well, I have to say that this boot.plist looks like mine and is kosher. I was wondering, were you considering getting a better graphics card for your awesome motherboard. I've run Final Cut Pro 5.1 on the EX58-DS4. Not a very thorough test, but I launched the applicatin, loaded an old file, played a few seconds, etc. It all seemed to be working fine.

Seems to be a bunch of folks having problems with NVinject after 10.5.3. I was having this same problem with no CI/QE.

 

The lead post at NVinstaller.com indicates that apple drivers are fine and to remove the injectors and install the 9f23 graphic drivers.

 

This worked for me.

 

So to be specific. I am using the GA-EX58-UD5 mobo with Zotac 7300 GT 256MB

I installed 10.5.6 using digital_dreamer method.

 

To get CI/QE working using hardware I..

 

downloaded the 9f23 Installer, and EFI studio using this link..

--and had it added to the boot.plist file by clicking the button in the

Then reboot and it worked for me.

Your original procedure was correct, assuming that your "hackintosh drive" is a clean GUID formatted hard drive.

 

As far as I can see you don't need to open osinstall.pkg. The only thing you might want to do is ensure that your install is updated to latest version. 10.5.6 at this time.

As the Chameleon bootloader and Darwin bootloader (which we're using) don't get along very well, it'll probably mean just a reformat of that EFI partition, install Chameleon, then the rest of the EFI files in wolfienuke's script. I'm sure wolfienuke can take care of that when the time comes. The Boot-132 standard Retail DVD install might require a reformat of the entire drive, I really don't know. That Darwin bootloader needs to be successfully uninstalled to remove any conflicts.

You don't have to make a ISO from the DVD. It's just that because some of us may be installing quite a number of times, it's much faster using a dmg on the hard drive than running from the optical disk. I can do the full install from the dmg in 5 minutes. Much less frustrating when you aren't forced to wait so long. YMMV.

As for the DVD install, that DVD is tailored to your MBP's specifications, so it will omit some necessary system files. Can't say what, for certain, but I don't know of anyone who has had success with the model-specific DVD installs. The recommendation has always been to use the Retail DVD, which is a universal installer.

Those are valid concerns, especially if you're coming from OC dual core. But, those high temps are with a single silent 65CFM fan running at 1500RPM inside the case on a quad core. The real telling feature is that at those temps it is stable on air! If I install a higher CFM fan or dual fan setup (which is on my list), the temps will be lower. When I lowered the vCore voltage to 1.375, my max temps were around 10°C lower (80°C), but I could only run Prime95 for about 45-minutes before a KP. Higher voltage moves more current, which, in turn, creates more heat, as heat is a by-product of power. The Core i7 appears to be pretty resistant to thermal breakdown, particularly with its built-in thermal throttling. Maximum allowed temperature for Core i7 is 100°C (TJMax). If it heats up more, the CPU will enable thermal throttling, i.e. the Vcore and clock frequency multiplier will be forced down to 12x. This feature protects the processor die against dangerous overheating.

It is strongly advised that if you're overclocking, to upgrade the stock cooler, as that cooler isn't really designed to dissipate that much heat that quickly.

I've tried wolfienuke's method several times, but I can't get it to boot. Am I missing anything other than running the script post OS X install? I am currently up and running using d_d's method (well written!). At this point, I'm not going to fret too much that I'm not using the EFI boot method. Chameleon and Snow Leopard are coming up soon and I'll re-do the install again then.

 

Haven't played with it much yet - got it running late last night and this morning it finished pulling my files via Migration Assistant. I need to tweak my profile a bit - it is showing as MacBookPro5,1 and only 2 memory banks are installed, even though it shows 6 GB. And I need to figure out how to boot into a second Windows drive. I have some reading to do (while at work )

 

I just want to bask in the warm glow of OS X on i7.

Oh my god, is that so true, the heatsink doesn't even completely cover the CPU Die! Ripoff! I don't even think the cooler was designed for the 1366 platform. Get the noctua heatsink on newegg, it comes with 2 fans!

Yes, it is a bit of a paradox to have to have a OS X installed to install OS X. But, the general premise is to install OS X using an easy, known-to-work method, then from that perform a more complex install.

If we (read: anyone) can create a working Boot-132 ISO that's simple enough for anyone to use and install the Retail DVD, that would be great. Better yet, would be to have the installer scripts in this thread available on the ISO to finish up with.

Yeah, mine does the same thing. From reading the Gigabyte tech support forums, you'll find that it's normal.

Those two scripts are not related, so only do one or the other.

Not knowing exactly what's happening in your case (log?), I suspect the graphics card, as well. That's the one big variable that's different for each user.

Have you looked at this thread?: 9800 GTX working in OSX86, 100% WORKING
