On a side note...does anyone have this motherboard running with an add-on Video card? I cant get it to sucessfully boot with my 9800GT installed. Tried Graphicsenabler, tried injecting with DSDT.

Just can't get it. Thanks

Edit:

Strange that I can't get to the Desktop with my DVI to HDMI cable (DVI side is DVI-D dual link), but my DVI-DVI cable (DVI-D single link) works fine. (see here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_Visual_Interface ) Weird...

I used it for a time with a 9600GT, I only have to enable GraphicsEnabler.

Yesterday I was playing with some overclocking with this board and to check if SpeedStep was working I installed VoodooMonitor. Well, I've discovered that CPU IS ALWAYS WORKING AT LESS THAN HALF SPEED.

My CPU is a C2D E5200 @ 2.5 Ghz, with 12.5x multiplier. Well, OSX put the CPU, using SpeedStep, at 6x (1200 Mhz), and it didn't move under heavy loads, always at 1200 Mhz.

I've solved it by installing VoodooPowerMini. Now OSX moves the cpu between 1200 Mhz and 2500 Mhz freely according to the system load. I've been working with a half powered computer for some months.

My system is 10.6.4, with the 'AppleHDA.kext' and 'IOUSBFamily.kext' from 10.6.2 to solve audio and USB issues.

Can you check if this is a generalized problem or is only my system?

Well, here's where I stand so far...

Successful in creating my own DSDT from scratch.

Sleep works, but still with CMOS reset, still with USB not detected on wake. Still requires Evoreboot for restarting, regardless of what version of RC5 I'm running (tried 273 and 284/285)

Find my dsdt attached below for viewing and/or comments...

Can anyone with a working sleep (No CMOS reset) use winmerge or a like program to find any major differences? Thanks...

It's close..I can almost taste it!

kramer2k,

I set up my sons computer about a year ago with the modified ROM (514 FINAL_SLIC.ROM) from dgsga. I followed all the kext installs and everything worked great. He has since updated his OSX 10 10.6.4 and now there is no sound. I've tried using kext helper as well as other manual methods and kext utility to get the sound working all to no avail.

I downloaded your mod6.dsl, to try that, but when I try compiling it with iasl I get a bunch of errors and no compiled version. Any idea why? Of you can't help with my compiler errors, could you upload the compiled version of your dsdt.aml. Any other ideas from anyone would be much appreciated.

thanks.

Rich

PS. I'm using Chameleon RC3 to boot if that matters. I also have but have not installed the ROM v.519. Core2Duo chip.

Install the bios update, manually update chameleon to an RC5 branch and then use the audio solution from 10.6.3 found within this thread.

Hey PolishOx,

Did you ever upload the kexts you referred to a few pages back? I've updated to RC5 with no luck on sound (I did lose my cute Chameleon GUI though :) and a bunch of loading errors :D ) , next is ROM519 upgrade.

If that doesn't do it I'll have to find a working DSDT and kext setup....hint hint.

thanks for all of your help.

Ox,

Do my DSDT.aml and /extra folders need to be on my USB stick rather than my OSX partition? Maybe that's why I can't get sound? I always keep my Chameleon bootloader on a USB stick so I can pop my HD onto a USB travel case and then plug it into my real mac for work when necessary.

thanks,

rich

none1 pointed me to an installer for audio post 10.6.2 using the 10.6.2 fix

I'll upload and link to that installer later even though I'm pretty sure it was posted in this thread.

DSDT will always be loaded by your bootloader and will be recognized where the bootloader is found 1st.

Technically you should have a bootloader installed on the physical drive but I guess your method works even thought it's kinda strange.

PolishOx,

Something really weird happens on the hack. I have switched to Chameleon RC5 per your instructions. That was no problem. If I use a dsdt file (either post 1095 or compiling mod6 from kramer (which gave errors on compiling), I can get OSX snow to start. If I take out the dsdt then it doesn't so I know it sees the dsdt file. (I can get it to always boot if I use the modified BIOS v 514 (dsgdt's) without dsdt file. Nothing odd there except I still have no audio.

So I tried your link for the hda 10.6.2 installer. It runs fine and says all is well, but still no sound.

Now here's the weird part, when OSX first loads the sound icon at the top is a dark speaker for a second, but when the rest of the icons load (time, eject icon, time machine, logged on account name and spotlight icons), the sound icon goes dim.

System preferences show no active sound device, although system profiler says the internal board is there.

Any thoughts?

thanks,

rich

PolishOx,

Do I need to modify the hex codecID from 8508ec10 to 8808ec10 to get it to work like shown below?

Or maybe I need a com.apple...... or a plist file somewhere?

[GUIDE] How to port AppleHDA to SL

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Okay. I've been getting a lot of requests from people who wants to convert their Leopard AppleHDA.kext into Snow Leopard.

This guide assumes you have fully working kext or at least one which works well enough for your needs.

Edit: This guide also assumes you have injected your audio by DSDT. Check out snow's guide

If you can't find any AZAL or HDEF in your dsdt, just insert it manually like this.

Things you need:

1. Vanilla SL AppleHDA.kext

2. Working AppleHDA.kext (make sure it works in leopard!)

3. PlistEdit Pro

4. HexEdit

1) First off, these are the codecs known to be supported natively without any binary patching required.

Code:

Name Codec ID (dec) Codec ID (hex)

AD1984 299112836 0x11D41984

AD1988 299112843 0x11D4198B

STAC9220 -2088470912 0x83847680

ALC262 283902562 0x10ec0262

ALC885 283904133 0x10ec0885If your codec id matches one of these you can skip this step.

Else, look into your vanilla SL AppleHDA.kext (Right click -> Show Package Contents) and browse to:

Code:

(SL)AppleHDA.kext/Contents/MacOS/Open up the AppleHDA binary with HexEdit. You are going to replace one of the codec ids above with your own.

In this example I'm going to replace the codec 0x10ec0885 (ALC885) with 0x10ec0888 (ALC888).

So hit Command+F and search for 8508ec10 (byte-flip of 10ec0885) and replace with 8808ec10 (byte-flip of 10ec0888).

Then just hit "Replace All". There will be 4 instances just to double check. Once you're done, Save and Exit.

2) Next, the plists. You will have to edit two of them in your SL kext.

Firstly you need to edit:

Code:

(SL)AppleHDA.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleHDAHardwareConfigDriver.kext/Contents/Info.plistOpen it up with your plist editor, go to:

Code:

IOKitPersonalities/HDA Hardware Config Resource/HDAConfigDefault/and delete everything under it.

Now, depending on which version your working applehda is, open either one of these:

Code:

(Leo)AppleHDA.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleHDAController.kext/Contents/Info.plist

(Leo)AppleHDA.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleHDAHardwareConfigDriver.kext/Contents/Info.plist

Curious to see what errors you get from compiling, what you are using to compile, and what version of said compiler you are using...I can compile mod6 without any problems whatsoever.

I don't recall the error but I do remember it said 2 errors. I can try it again this weekend and post the errors. I used the iasl version iASLMe_64Bit_09_15_2010.app downloaded from http://x86osx.com/bbs/view.php?id=pds&...asc&no=3624.

Hey, I've recently bought an Apple Wireless Keyboard and I've problems to get it work after starting up osx. I use this mobo + Targus ACB10US bluetoothdongle and Legacy USB Support Disabled + Bios-Mod. I've described the problem in this thread: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=235470

Maybe somebody has a clue what is causing this?

Thanks

I'm thinking on putting an external graphics card on this board, the current scenario is that i'm using the modded bios, can i just plugin the external card and use it trought GraphicsEnabler or NVinject or do i need do go back to the standard bios? I don't know how does the modded bios / modified DSDT use the internal graphic card (and if so, will it prevent me from using the external graphics card).

Thanks in advance for all your help.

You can ONLY use 1 injection method to fix your gfx.

Discrete graphics card such as nvidia should work fine if your dsdt is edited properly or the bios is edited properly.

Then you wouldn't need GraphicsEnabler or NvEnabler.kext.

But again, this is why I tell people stop using modded bios. B/c you don't know what was modded.

Even if the author who modded the bios is an expert and documented everything, you're still the end user.

If YOU YOURSELF are NOT an expert stop using goddamn modded bios.

B/c it teaches you nothing and creates more support issues -- why don't you send the author of the modded bios these questions directly?

Oh? He isn't available or doesn't answer fast enough? I rest my case.

Thank for your answer, i agree in most of the things you say.

Let's say that i dump my modded bios, back to the stock one.

Can i build my own DSDT? Do i need DSDT (i'm not using onboard sound and i will not be using the internal graphics card).

Thanks for all your help.

DSDT is a table found within a bios...you must dump a copy of it from win.lin, or os x using the proper tools/scripts.

Once it's dumped there are many edits you can apply not all of them are required.

If you want to skip using a dsdt altogether you can...instead you can use kexts.

DSDT is NOT required but suggested to remove 3rd party kexts like evorestart etc.

It's possible to use onboard hardware Stripped RAID 0 on the P5N7A?

I believe that eject said a year ago that It wasn't possible, but I want to confirm before I buy a new SSD for my hackintosh.

My idea is:

1) Build a hardware RAID 0 from BIOS with two SSD of 60 GB

2) Boot from my actual HDD, and format the new RAID SSD (one volume of 120 GB) with HFS+

3) Use superduper to clone my actual HDD to new RAID SSD.

4) Disconnect actual HDD of my computer.

5) Boot from RAID SSD and start using it as my default system.

What do you think about that?? Can I do it?

why don't you simply use the raid osx supplies. that works brilliantly, simply search for chameleon and raid, you will find a tutorial on how to set it up

the hardware raid won't work with those supplied on motherboards, there are only a handfull that are supportet by osx so there is only one option for hardware raid in a mac, that is buy a {censored} expensive controller and use that like in a mac pro

Thanks to all..

I used the DSDT.aml listed here

http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...p;#entry1082035

And followed the guide here..

http://coderazzi.net/osx/p5n7a-vm/index.htm

Everything works well except for

1) no HDMI audio.. I have tried voodoo HDA 2.7.2, and the latest ALC1200_1063

With VoodooHDA, I can see the HDMI audio but no sound.

ALC1200 does not see HDMI audio

During OSX 10.6.5 boot up, it complains about "HDA gfx"

2)I am connecting the HDMI to a TV and there's is only a underscan checkbox. I was reading that the latest mac mini and macbook pro with the miniport dispaly to HDMI connect show a underscan slider like this

http://www.themacfaq.com/2010/11/11/unders...-and-underscan/

So does anyone have their HDMI audio working? And how can get the underscan slider?

Thank for any help.

Hey PP,

For the audio issue, have you tried [url="http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/279450-why-insanelymac-does-not-support-tonymacx86/"]#####[/url] 3.1 to install the ALCXX kexts? I can't recall if it was here or at TonyMacx86 that I read a solution for that. I'll see if I can find what I read in the meantime.

hey lads,

just installed lion, quiet straight forward. empty harddrive, guid formatted, two partitions, restored the dmg in the dev preview2 to one of the empty partitions, replaced the package shortcut by the actual folder from the preview and put a fakesmckext into S/L/E of restored install disk (chown/chmod).

installed chameleon with the package installer (i am a lazy slob) and simply booted from that harddrive. install went well, display went black after showing only a minute left. i waited for harddrives to shut up, smoked a cigarrette and hard reseted the pc. booted into SL, put a fakesmc.kext into S/L/E (chown/chmod). reboot into freshly installed lion. imported user from SL and it works.

all is woring as before but sound, using old solutions described here somehow did not work.

beeing a lazy slob i installed the voodoo hda package, reboot followed by a auto reboot (why ever it just did it) and Lion started up with sound.

all as we know it from SL, USB still funny, bios reset when using sleep and no fast reboots without help

just wanted to give this thread a heads up since this board is still allive and kicking

cheers Basti
