Did you remove AppleIntelCPUPowerManagemnt.kext as you need to to get sleep. Also need to have QVL memory (see Asus website page for P5N7A-VM) and following bios settings (I'm using latest 512 bios from Asus website):

In Power:

Suspend Mode=S3

ACPI 2.0=Enabled

In Advanced (USB Section):

Legacy USB=Enabled

Speed=Full Speed

In energy saver pref pane have 'allow power button to sleep' and 'restart automatically' boxes ticked.

Attached is latest dsdt.aml which has device-id injection so you no longer need legacy AppleAHCI and AppleLPC kexts. System now only has 2 added kexts: AppleDecrypt and IOAHCIFamily (orange icon fix)!

Hope this fixes it for you

ehy dgsga.. you posted 2 dsdt in that page.. are different? which one I shall get?

but.. I never have removed intelcpupowermanagement.. but.. yes.. If I remove it I know that I have no errors.. ok ok but is like to have disabler.. what changes? I mean to use dsdt and no disabler and yes intelpowermgm.. like i have in acer laptop and zotac mcp79a mobo.

but after? what's the solution to manage power management of cpu if I remove the kext?

3rd: I have usb hi speed.. to have normal speed is very weird.. is like have a trabant instead a ferrari!!

I am.

and following bios settings...

Legacy USB=Enabled

Speed=Full Speed

I need my high-speed USB. When I switched over to full-speed, things like my media-card reader dropped down to 12Mbps. No good for me.

In energy saver pref pane have 'allow power button to sleep' and 'restart automatically' boxes ticked.

I don't get the restart automatically option.

Already upgraded my DSDT, but haven't removed those two kexts yet.

Since I need my High-Speed USB, I can live without Sleep.

Ugokind,

Get the latest DSDT from the most recent post. For CPU power management use VoodooPower.kext, it works great (just google Superhai). As far as USB goes, setting Legacy USB to Full Speed does not affect the EHCI ports in OSX, they still operate at High Speed. Just plug your keyboard/mouse into the OHCI ports cos they don't need the speed, plug the devices that need speed into the EHCI ports. You can see what is where in System Profiler in the USB section of Hardware.

Hey everyone - this is my first post. I built my P5N7A system a few weeks ago and have been running fine - many thanks to everyone in this thread!

I used ckpcw's guide to install using iPC 10.5.6

Sleep has been working fine from day one, but I have installed EyeTV (this is going to be my HTPC) and now if I put the system to sleep, when I restart the BIOS has cleared and I have to re set everything in order to boot again. If I don't restart, everything runs fine. I plan to stay in sleep most most of the time rather than shutdown.

I have a clean install on another partition which doesn't have this problem, so installed EyeTV to test, and the problem appears. I've tried voodoo kernel also. same problem.

Anyone else running EyeTV on this board?

E8400

4GB Gskill QVL memory

EyeTV Hybrid

Currently running BIOS 0407 (upgraded from 0404 to see if that made a difference).

cheers

T

Sounds like Asus's officious feature is resetting your bios.

I dunno if you can disable it or not but this may also work as a lifesaver so.

This one stop shop has all you need to do a basic install using the Boot 132 method.

All the files you need are there, along with clear and concise intructions.

To say that it made my day would be an understatement. All up and running in under 2 hours !

I hope you will enjoy it as much as I have.

Thanks Mathew,

Make sure you update your guide to say that a 10.5.6 retail Mac OS X Leopard DVD is needed for the boot-132 method. If you use 10.5.4 or lower, you will be caught in a constant reboot loop. Trust me, I speak from experience

Diabolik posted working audio kexts somewhere in the middle of this thread, so did FrodoKenny.

Also, why are you installing Chameleon 1? Why not go with Chameleon 2.0 RC1? I think the EFI Partition is the way to go now. I run my Chameleon 2.0 RC1 EFI partition off of a USB stick so that OS X remains vanilla. You can load DSDT, kexts, com.apple.boot.plist, etc all without touching the vanilla install. Just my $0.02.....

dgsga I used your last dsdt

i disassembled it.. modded in the OSYS section (the if os = darwin has a value 15 and not 14 and put it after windows 2006 case)

and recompiled.

thanks

Hi all,

I managed to get a vanilla 10.5.4 + Apple 10.5.6 combo updater working with DiaboliK's DSDT, hw graphic acceleration, sound, etc after trial and error. It would install and boot fine the first time, but (not touching ANYTHING) after rebooting, it would stall unless I went into safe mode (I had to follow fcol313's post and rerun Universal OSX86 Installer from the hackintosh drive itself --- can anybody explain why that would be necessary?)

In any case, I had a working OS X install and attempted to install Vista on the other partition (the drive is split into 2 partitions via OS X Disk Utility, GUID Partition table enabled). As expected, after reboot, only Windows wanted to boot, so I stuck the hdd into my other Mac and reinstalled just Chameleon Edition 1.0.12 bootloader (via UInstaller), but that did not give me my bootloader back - and attempted to start a now damaged Vista installation.

Any hints/tips on getting this kind of dual boot to work? I was hoping to have Chameleon prompt me every time I started/restarted, and to choose between my OS X and Vista installations accordingly.

Thanks!

-B

I am sure Matthew would value your comments on his blog site.

I am very interested in your method of installing Chameleon on an USB stick, together with the required extentions etc thus keeping your OSX install totally vanilla.

Is this process writen up anywhere ?

Am I also right is assuming that this will facilitate the creation of multi-booting environments ?

As a matter of interest, do you use the modified BIOS ? I could not get the installation to start without doing so, it just stuck on the grey apple screen ....

@anyone

anyone using the latest BIOS 512 ?

Thanks for taking the time to help a noob understand the wonderful world of H/Mackintosh.

I did write a guide about installing Chameleon on a stick. If you search my posts, you can find it.

Also, I do use a modified DSDT but not a modded BIOS. You can make a chameleon boot CD with the required DSDT and use that as a boot-132 method.

hey guys,

When i shut down, the screen goes blank but the computer does not stop. Even after a while.

any hints??

bob

I suppose you read all the topic. yes is very long. but I can compress in that way:

-1st you must choose from what bios you want to have. the older bios are easy to adapt to the system.. but obviously they are old and don't bring the brand bug fixes or imprivements! there is a mod bios v404 madeof to let mac load better.. the link is in that page

http://www.osxcores.site50.net/product-1.htm

so after a lot of tries i decided to move in that bios

-2nd you have to setup and decide some important data in the bios.. this is because those changes make the system work good in some thing and bad in others

example: if you overclock the video section as described in the 1st post of that topic, you never shutdown the system. but also with 100% standard setup bios you don't have good performaces because usb is legacy and normal speed not 480mbit/s

I decided to not use boost in video settings.. hi speed usb and a personal modded dsdt.aml. i used the dsdt that diabolik told me some pages above but I changed the OSYS darwin value and position, in order to force loading hpet without using a disabler.kext.

then I use the couple "chameleon2+boot.plist parameter usbfix=yes" in order to reset and right load usb at boot at hi speed.

the other way it to manage usb ehci in the dsdt.aml replacing the original usb port methods with ohci or ehci but first you have to discover the right electrical position in motherboard and the associated position in the dsdt.aml.. this method let you assign and override acpi bios table saying to mac that the port usually used in low speed can be loaded at hi speed without using a bad kext at boot.

but now i can sleep very well, only pressing the power button I sleep immediately without choose in a menu, and the system shut down at 99%. yes I say 99%.. so one or 2 times a week it shut down with black screen and fun running. But I suppose that is a problem due to using or not a usb peripheral during the previous boot. I see that If I never use usb I shutdown regular.. If so I shutdown regular and sometimes not.

if you read above you see that the only way to shutdown perfectly is usb normal.. and look at the audio drivers.. they are quite startup/shutdown assassin.. specially in 10.5.7 system.

but this is only my opinion. I see that with a non retail kernel (ex. anv 1.4 v3) the usb never give uim errors and the shutdown is good. but I prefer to stay ratail.

bye

Man,

I'm impressed by your knowledge !!

thanks for your answer, right now i'm runnig 10.5.7 retail with Diabolik DST and audio drivers from Ufdah with v407 BIOS and no video OC.

I did update the USBBusFix to yes in Chameleon but unfortunalty no change with the shutdown.

From what i understood it would be either audio or usb peripheral. Since i use a usb mouse and keyboard it might be the cause.

I tried to look at system.log to have more info on what could hang, but i did not see any hints on the subject (where should i look??).

I should try to update the bios to a modded v404...

EDIT:

I did start without any USB and it did not change a thing No Shutdown no Sleep but restart fine:(

Anyhow thanks again !!

great day

bob

Well, it depends .....

If you have access to a Mac for building purposes then Ufah / FrodoKenny / Savestheday methods all work.

If you only have access to .spit. Windows, then the method created by Matthew Jones ( see my post a couple of pages back) is the only one that worked for me.

Hope this is useful.

Does a G4 Powermac running OSX 10.4 count?

should, 9200/9300/9400/fx470 mcp79/c79 chipset, all the same chip just different clocks.

-D-

First, thanks to diabolik and all who have made this possible.

Second,

Can anyone running this board on 10.5.7 chip in a word and say if Quicktime is doing accelerated H.264 decoding? It should be pretty obvious based on CPU use. see ( http://gizmodo.com/5065435/new-macbooks-us...-video-decoding )

I would love to use this board with a cheap and low power CPU for a Plex HTPC. Also using a 35W cpu instead of quad core or dual core will make for cooler temperatures in small cases.
