I've got a P4 2.2 SSE2 Northwood, socket 478 processor, in an ABIT VT7 motherboard. 768 megs of DDR266 ram, 6 gig main hard drive in it. I have a copy of the OSx86 10.4.4 Install DVD. After a bit of fanagaling with my DVD drive I got the DVD booted, started the setup, tested everything out okay, used Disk Utility to delete the old NTFS partition on the 6 gig drive, formated it to Mac Extended, select that drive to install OS X on. The install goes off without a hitch. No problems. It reboots my system, get to Verifying DMI Pool Data, which is where it should see my main drive and begin booting to it.

At this point nothing happens, it doesn't begin booting OS X. The jumpers on the drive are fine, it's set to boot immediately after the CD which there is nothing in.

I can't for the life of me determine why it wouldn't boot straight to that drive. Can anyone give me any ideas on what i may have done wrong through partitioning, installing and setting it up to boot.

Also, this is not a dual boot system, it should boot only OSX.

Doing a bit more research on the copy of 10.4.4 I have aquired, the creator says that using the disk utility in the installer will cause problems. I have since setup my system like you've suggested, and am going to attempt it once gain tonight. I used our Office iMac to format an 80 gig seagate drive to MAC OS Extended (Journalism) so I won't have to bother with the Disc Utility on the install disc, I'm hoping this solves my problem.

In addition, I'm reburning my DVD to quality SONY DVD-R 8x media, instead of the bargain 4x HQ-AZO blanks I had available last night. I grabbed 2 from work incase something goes wrong on the first burn. I've also given the system a hefty internal cleaning, as it's been a Windows Media Center for 6 months, and heavily ignored while it Tivoed things for me. Here's hoping everything works out once this burn finishes.

I'm actually getting the Myzar Disc now because it includes the 10.4.5 updates. If I get no luck tonight I'm going to use it. Thankfully, the iMac we have at work let me format the drive with out USB to IDE adapter, so as soon as I put the DVD in tonight, it showed an available drive. I have about 9 minutes left on the install. The Sony DVD is also working much better then the HQ-AZO.

If you use Disk Utility on a PPC Mac to format the drive, it won't boot correctly on an x86 machine, as it will have the PPC partitioning scheme.

Sorry for the double post but just wanted to give everyone an update.

Motherboard is an ABIT VT7, found a supported Realtek NIC. The onboard audio for this motherboard also supports left channel only.

Along with OS X this system now dual boots with Ubunut Linux. I also just wanted to thank this community, which has been uber helpful in everything that I've done so far.

I've ordered a Gigabyte board I read about on the wiki that supports everything onboard, I believe its the 8I8 something.

Also thanks to the guys doing MacVidia, those drivers FTW.

The audio however, seems to be accelerated.
