has anyone gotten this method working with the great looking chameleon bootloader? I got leopard running fine using the method listed but then to be able to boot into the windows/linux on a separate drive i installed chameleon-2rc1 using the method here: http://www.insanelymac.com/2009/04/how-to-...ameleon-20-rc1/ . Well it shows the nice GUI os selector fine but when I try to load leopard it shows an apple logo and a spinning thing. Running mach_kernel.voodoo -v -f at the boot menu shows that it slows down heavily after the error I always get about ERROR:firewire etc. then spits out one or two more lines about networking issues very slowly and then it just hangs there. It worked fine before chameleon, but I really want to use chameleon. Anyone gotten this working?

Have been trying, no really good results yet. Or better said: it's not ideal yet. I'd say - if you want a good, nice, stable booter - use another one, as this is still an RC. There are many succes stories for Ch', so you might want to look into a topic about that specifically, as I believe it's not very machine specific. And it would be weird - in my opinion - that is slows on boot, as the booter only makes it start, and should not really interfere with the system itself..

By the way - when did you remove the busratio=20 flag...?

Good luck :)

I still have the busratio=20 flag in the com.boot.plist as instructed, along with the uuid. I know this works without cameleon so I don't think that's the problem, unless cameleon is ignoring my com.boot.plist file.

I'm not sure which plist is used by Chameleon exactly; some packs use one on the EFI partition, some the one on the main partition... You could try manually entering those. Otherwise, right now I'm at a loss..

Does it really just hang, or do you get a root device failure? Did you let it run for a while? It almost sounds like the old core problem, taking 7-10 minutes to boot..

Hmmm... :)

I tried modifying all the com.boot's I could find, and I tried waiting 10 minutes (it's very fast without cameleon). Perhaps I'll try leaving more time to see if that's it, but not until this weekend as I need to run linux and am getting tired of reinstalling grub over and over:)

Hello all.

I've reinstalled everything, new EFI partition on a fresh osx install, change RAM modules (!!!!!there was an incompatibility with CORSAIR 1333Mhz 2GB modules!!!!!! and pt6 asus motherboard!!!!!)

And now everything it's ok.

I'm a little scard by now, cause everything is very fragile.

TRying new EFI kexts it's a pain, if everything went wrong you need to boot from the cd and hope to recover everything via terminal ! Hard!

A hint for everyone: I've got problems with EFIstudio, the app with graphical interface to install EFI partition,

cause it installs the V5.1 of Munky's bootloader.

You need to use the V6.1 cause it supports DSDT patch(inSystem folder and EFI folder, remember tio use both.)

Now it's time to check if putting STANZA'kexts in EFI, to see if it give me back usb and firewire hotswap.

ANYONE else got this problem and managed to solve it?

Thanks anyone.

No luck. Copying the kexts above (Stanza's Post #487) doesn't work for me.

Elsewhere in this forum i've found a working solution:

REmoving from the system's kexts AppleHPET should be fine.

But strange it doesn't work for me.

Strange thing that happened is this:

when i reinstall the AppleHPET.kext the firewire and usb drive mount instantly on my desktop!

But then everything (after reboting or disconnecting the devices) came back as usual, the drive dont't mount, if not connected at startup.

I think the problems is around this kext, but i really can solve it.

EDIT

I've been around searching for a solution, and nothing really works.

I've found this workaround and I've made this terminal command to

be able to mount my usb and firewire devices in one click, just enter you password and voilà.

Hope this will be useful for you, down here there are the files.

I don't get it - I bought parts specifically to replicate the p6t configurations in this thread, but the voodoo 9.5.0 kernel from the Asus P6T Deluxe Boot-132 v3 iso image of the guide from the post keeps crashing:

> Unable to find driver for this platform: "ACPI" @/VoodooKernel/xnu-1228.7.58/iokit/Kernel/IOPlatformExpert.cpp

> Local APIC version not 0x14 as expected

That is, it does not even jump into the installer.

(all the bios settings, steps from the guide have been followed to the letter., hw is vanilla p6t deluxe v2 with a 920 D0, 9800GT and 12GB OCZ, standard parameters but of the deltas from the guide and tested fine otherwise)

I have tried various kernel options including maxmem and platform with no avail. Having combed through the forum posts, I did not see a resolution. How come no-one else ran into this??

Thanks for any help in advance,

Not sure if anyone else has tried the install with 12gig ram or not.......

but try removing some ram for the initial install...... mine worked fine with 6gig....others have done it with less than 6gig. Not heard of anyone trying with 12gig.

Tho I did read a test on the P6T that stated 12gig was unreliable with some bios versions.

So I sugest either remove some ram, or update to the latest bios and give it another go.

Try this image. The original image posted in this thread did not work for me. I had to modify it a little bit. I don't recall what exactly I did change but it works like a charm for my P6T Deluxe V2.

are there any other (slimboot) boot-132 images to try for the P6T

the resource page does not list any p6t ones -

Howdy all,

I made the mistake of purchasing a p6T rather than the Deluxe version. I'm in the process of reading through this thread, but was wondering if this has come up yet. I'm looking forward to getting started on the build tonight.

Hey Teapot,

Did you need to do anything special to get more than 2 GB of ram to work? On my P6T Deluxe v2; if I install more than one bank of my OSZ 12800 plat 2gb modules, the system halts at

IOAPIC: Version 0x20 Vectors XX:XX

IOAPIC: Version 0x20 Vectors XX:XX

If I leave just the one bank in A1 then I can boot into my system no problem.

Side note: has anyone else noticed that if they leave the BIOS to manage the ram freq it sets it to 1066 not 1600 (assuming you have DDR3 12800 ram)?

Do I need to install a new SMBIOS kext?

EDIT: I had to only use 2 Gb for the install as well or else my machine would freeze like ChrisV09's.

SOOO CLOOOOSE to a clean install

Chenda,

I found your post, but it says you had to use a custom one. Would you be willing to upload it to me?

I did not do anything other than filled all banks with 12 GB total. I think you have to put memory in 3's. So if you have 2GB sticks than the minimum should be 6 GB (3 sticks).

I do have 6 GB (2GB x 3) and I made sure they were in the right banks (according to the MB manual). My retail version is 10.5.6 which may be the source of the issue. I'm thinking I may need to install a different SMBIOS kext...

Anyone have any ideas?

I had two issues:

One: The attached Slimbuild-Preboot.iso didn't work for me. it failed with the "isolinux: image checksum error". I had to:

  1. 1. download the boot-132 slimbuild installation
  2. 2. download and build CDRTools, to get mkisofs
  3. 3. mod the slimbuild2.sh script to use mkisofs instead of hdiutil
  4. 4. rebuild a new Slimbuild-Preboot.iso with all my extensions, plist, etc.

Two: I spent a lot of time trying to figure out the right diskXsY/boot-uuid code for my PATA DVD drive. I was constantly hitting the dreaded "still waiting for root device".

I eventually realized that it's because there was no support for the Marvell controller.

I found the solution here:

http://my.ukrweb.info/en/node/73

just throw that kext into your Slimbuild and you can install from a PATA DVD. I eventually got it to work using boot-uuid.

now I just need to figure out how where to install it alongside my working vista.
