For ASUS P5Q deluxe users here is how to get stuff working:

BIOS:

Well you do need to flash your bios so use this file:

2001_BIOS_Asus_P5Q_Deluxe_for_MAC_OS_X___VISTA_Slic_all_OS__incl._by_Juzzi..ROM.zip

Ethernet:

Use IONetworkingFamily.kext to get the bottom one working (Marvell Yukon 88E8056 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller)

And Skge.ktext to get the top one working :) (Marvell Yukon 88E8001/8003/8010 PCI Gigabit Ethernet Controller)

IONetworkingFamily.kext.zip

skge_for_P5Q_Deluxe.zip

Shutdown Problem

You need OpenHaltRestart if you have problems shutting down/restarting etc..

OpenHaltRestart_1.0.3.kext.zip

Audio:

I recommend you use Azilla for now. There is a fully working solution here which makes everything work but you will maybe get a kernel panic while shutting down saying "appleHDA has corrupted the registry)

AppleAzaliaAudio.kext.zip

I am going to add these drivers in Post # 1

I installed OS X on A GUID (not mbr) disk. Can I still use the PCI_EFI bootloader? And is it possible to place the drivers on a separate partition?

I also heared about this efi strings solution. How do I make my nvidia 9800 gtx+ work? It has 512 mb RAM.

Hello all,

First, props to Robert for all his hard work. I have completed my install and need help with a few issues:

1) I installed the openhalt.kext and it works but will not reliably shut down. Also the Atheros lan does not come back on wake. If there is no fix how can I remove the kext?

2) Is it possible that the openhalt kext messed up the LAN? Every time I browse to a new site, safari pauses for a full 5 to 10 seconds before loading. I did not have this issue before.

3) I am trying to use the SIL sata ports as normal SATA ports to no avail. Has anyone been able connect a boot drive and sata DVD? I would like to keep the 6 ICH10 ports for my raid array. If they cannot work can someone recommend a good 2 port PCI sata card?

3) Does anyone know how to balance loads across 2 NICs in my server?

Please see config in sig.

Thanks!

Yes it is possible. Just follow the same steps I used. Assuming any of your other operating systems are on other disks (since Windows can't be installed on a GUID partition table). In order to boot the other OS, you can either press F8 at bios to boot the other hard drive, or you can press Esc at the bootloader menu and enter in the hard drive number (80 for first hdd, 81 for second, etc.)

As far as drivers on a separate partiton. The easiest way is just using the alternative method. I haven't tested my other theories yet. Try searching the forum a bit for other methods. I'm actually kind of new to Retail installs (I switched from AMD).

Try using osx86 tools to add the GFX string.

After it didn't work with my 10.5.0 retail dvd everything went just fine with the retail image in your guide!

P5Q pro here, Ethernet, sound working, and even my ati 4850 work just fine ;)

you made my day robert! :(

hi guys,i got 2 hd,one for osx and the other for xp,i follow all the steps here to install my osx retail, evey work fine except i still can't make it boot without usb stick, should i delete the first efi 200m partition and start all over again ?i think that 200m parttion is created by disk utilites, and i can see it in parted magic.also xp cannot read my osx drive (say it's gpt protective),so i have no clue how to use the "alternate method" in step 11,then i tried using universal osx86 installer to install efi v9 and i got a hfs+ partition error when boot.thanks in advanced for anyone Rick

Yeah, thanks, where do I find the GFX String?

Also:

Step 5: Travel to the root of your Macintosh disk. Locate the file labeled "boot" and the folder "Extras". Delete both of this and empty the trash.

I can't seem to find any file named "boot" on the hard drive where osx is installed (yes I've ticked off the box to enable viewing hidden files.)

Fixed #2, DNS server somehow got messed up so I fixed it. So far so good.

Other questions remain.

Looks like a bad burn to me. Are you using the same application and the same DVDs to burn iAtkos each time? Try putting it on 4x burning speed. You aren't even getting to the darwin boot menu, so that means your bios has trouble reading and booting the cd. If 4x doesn't work, try a different dvd burner. Make sure you are burning it as an ISO CD and not just a data cd with the iso image on it. I would suggest using CDBurnerXP and selecting Burn ISO Image at the menu.

I'm confused... Did you try the PC_EFI method? Try that and then use F8 at boot prompt to select which hard drive you want to boot from. If you follow my instructions you wont need the 200mb boot partition. Also try the package I gave you instead of the Universal installer method. I'm going to try a GUID partition on a test install. I seem to be getting a lot of problems with the PC-EFI method on GUID.

I can't seem to find any file named "boot" on the hard drive where osx is installed (yes I've ticked off the box to enable viewing hidden files.)

Make sure you installed the PC_EFI_V9 package that I attached and reboot the computer after install (just in case). The 'Boot' file and 'Extras' folders wont exist until after you have installed the package.

Heres an alternative method. Download the program Transmac. Find it online from the same place you found the patched ISO. After you install Transmac select the restore partition you created, right click on it, and put Format with Disc Image. Use the patched ISO. After that use Boot132 to boot from the Restore partition. This should allow you to skip disc burning. Install to the other Macintosh partition you created.

I apologize if I'm not much help, but the problem appears to be with your computer booting from the cd drive. Have you ever tried booting any other Operating systems before with that drive? Try a Windows XP disc.

Hi, thank for the post!!!

Again, please don't quote the whole tutorial. You were already told once before in this thread.

If the main post is updated, your quote will be incomplete and/or contain incorrect information, causing confusion.

Load the default configuration in the Bios and then restart the computer and then just change the Storage Configuration to AHCI and then try it out.

Great Tutorial, it works fine for me.

Leopard Retail full working!!!!!!

One Question??? why I see 3.8 unknown processor, I have Core2Duo 2.8 E7400????

Thanks.

You need to apply an SMBIOS patch. You can find them from here http://######.com/index.php?option=...9&Itemid=74 . I used the first two. After that the About This Mac box should be updated with the right clock frequency, however, the processor name might still show up as unknown, to fix this: Use osx86tools to and auto-detect the correct processor name.

This should probably be added to the tutorial.

click 'add EFI Strings/Boot Flag'.

Welcome to the club. 9800 GTX/GTX+ works with vanilla 10.5.6 kexts and kicks any Apple shipping card's ass.

Yeah, thanks. I didn't know that the tool could automatically find the efi string I needed for my graphics card:)

The game World of Goo seems to play fine now, but I am having huge troubles when I make the game go fullscreen, resulting in a black screen. Event quiting the game doesn't solve the problem; so I have to reboot. Any ideas on that? :/

The device property string was probably submitted by someone and then added to OSX86 Tools by PCWiz. It doesn't know what video card you have.

I am not familiar with World of Goo, lol. I haven't had that problem in any other game I've had installed.

Try googling it, maybe it's a common problem with the game on real macs as well (like the sound issue with Doom III for example).

If it is, then maybe there's a fix for it.

Sadly, I haven't found much on good ol' google.

Here's the only thing I found that _might_ be relevant:

http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...mp;#entry943229

However, he seems to be using a cider port or something, and a voodoo kernel. I'm using apples kernel and a native port of the game :/

The game works fine in fullscreen mode on my macbook, btw.

I created a test GUID installation, and I appear to be encountering problems with my PC_EFI method. I have tried other methods of EFI installation, but none of them appear to be working when I format the drive GUID. Does anybody have a GUID partition with a working installation of PC_EFI? If so, how did you do this?
