rocksteady
hi rocksteady, you think it will work with p5q+ati3870 ? i've tried my own made boot132 but didn't work rick, p5x-Xx boards are similar (but not identical), Robert lists everything you need to get started on the first page. Try with a readymade boot132 before you start customizing it. The Asus p5w-dh from: Boot-132 Loaders for Retail Vanilla Leopard Install in a Disk Partition worked for my p5q-em too. I was able to install Kalyway 10.5.2 and it loads completely. when i reboot it hangs on the gray apple with the circle and slash. if your p5q-em is all SATA, you don't have to bother with other discs than retail really, after flashing the p5q-em bios: -load default settings (save+reboot) -(enter bios) set ahci-->ahci (save+reboot) -press F8 to bring up the p5q-em Boot Up Selection Utility -select your Optical drive -boot the boot132 cd and let it load -switch discs + put the 10.5.4 retail dvd -boot the retail dvd (it'll take a while, boot with -v if you want to see what's going on) -install 10.5.4 + follow Robert's steps (don't panic @ the end of installation error) the first step is to merely install Leopard, post-installation and customization is next. Gorillablume
First of all: Thanks a lot, this guide is awesome. I was able to get my System up and runnig withing less than two hours. I use OSX on a macbook for a while now and am new to os86. So far it work perfekt on my P5Q-E with one exception: I actually want to use the machine to cut my Vids with FCE. Well FCE starts perfekt and can edit Video however, when I plug my Camera (Canon HF10 AVCHD) it's actually crashing. Same with iMovie 9. I foud an older threat: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...&pid=494410 Here they name two things to solve this Issue: - pc-efi patch <<< This is installed on my machine since I follwowed this guide - installing the latest latest AppleSMBIOS Well this threat is about 10.5.2 I'm on 10.5.6 but still face this issue. I haven't tried a different SMBios, I have to admid, that I'm not so familier with the OSX core system. Do you guys thing this would solve my Issue? Any suggestion is welcome! Thanks a lot for this great work. Jan
rocksteady
jan, this thread is for merely installing 10.5.x on p5x boards, your question is about FCP on hackintosh. feel free to find a related thread (or start a new one) so that we can keep this one as clean+focused as possible. Thanks a lot for this great work. Jan Hi Gorillablume, It's funny we met the same predicament almost at the same time. Besides, I also noticed that the "about this mac" and "system profile" show the improper data. I found the same thread as yours. I don't know what is a "pc-efi patch", and I believe it's all about the AppleSMBIOS.kext. The version of AppleSMBIOS in 10.5.6 is the latest which I think doesn't fit our mobo. I tried several older versions and I found the one in the boot_132 works. I can imported video clips from my Canon HG10 into iMovie09 and the "system profile" can show something correct in the "hardware overview". I also tried a version 1.0.14 AppleSMBIOS which I don't know where I downloaded it from, and it also works. AppleSMBIOS.kext.zip I suggest you to try them. Don't forget to remove the one in S/L/E before you instal it. Good Luck!

skunk71672
Big THX to Robert who made the Installation of RETAIL 10.5.6 Possible. I Installed 10.5.6 right away and it worked with Chameleon RC2 with custom kext in the Extra folder (Viaata f.e.) Installed it on my Ide drive from Usb Stick. Macosx works perfect now. I only have one problem left. I installed it with another Ide Drive. No i am only able to boot from efi 132 bootcd or plug in my other ide hdd with existing ipc and chameleon rc2. I tried to unplug my ide with ipc and boot with 132 bootcd. Success. Then i thought i only had to install the chameleon rc2 bootloader .FAIL How can i fix thsi prob???? I want to boot from the ide hdd with retail osx only? Thx
rocksteady
@ all who asked nicely via pm: guys, i've made a P5Q-EM-specific, retail installation guide in one go. Robert has already integrated the .pdf, you can find it under step 4 in the first page of this thread. P5Q-EM-specific, means: -this is the board i own, and this is the board i can verify regarding osX86 -yes the procedure is pretty much the same, but don't pm me about hardware other than what's included in the guide. Robert's guide covers most if not all P5x-Xx boards. There's a ton of other threads/guides too, use the search box. P5Q-EM-specific, retail installation guide in one go, means: -you can install the original/retail/vanilla DVD from the beginning, no need for extra installs/partitions. will take less than an hour for a novice, will take less than half an hour for an experienced user. my guide is also GUID-specific, which means: -MacOS X is built/optimized for GUID, this is the way I've set it up, this is the way my guide describes. -yes you can get it working on MBR, but don't pm me how to do it. Robert's guide covers this. Please don't bother Robert about my guide For those who pm'ed about my system, here's the specs of the cheap box: Asus P5Q-EM Core2 Quad Processor Q6600 Ballistix DDR2 RAM, 4GB kit (2GBx2) Mushkin GeForce 8800 GT HP Edition v2 Some who pm'ed me went nuts about recommending my hardware as compatible. Again, I do not recommend my setup nor any other as being hackintosh-ready. It has to do with your skills you know. I did it just for fun, on cheap hardware I already had. I'd never start buying generic/cheap hardware just to experiment or go "serious" about building a hack.

Do you know if it works on integrated video? I also have WinXP installed on my SATA, but I have IDE HD and want to use it for Mac OS X. What you think, will it work? Should I use multiloader or something like boot USB Drive to switch between WinXp and Mac OS after BIOS starts? Thanks. Sorry for my English. rocksteady
hi x3me + welcome Do you know if it works on integrated video? no, unfortunately the integrated X4500HD is not supported (and 99% will never be). You gotta have a gfx card installed in the PCIe slot of the P5Q-EM. I also have WinXP installed on my SATA, but I have IDE HD and want to use it for Mac OS X. My guide is an all SATA/GUID solution, and that's what I can confirm. Robert uses IDE successfully and also lists the relevant kexts. What you think, will it work? I only know that mine works, Will you ever know without trying? Should I use multiloader or something like boot USB Drive to switch between WinXp and Mac OS after BIOS starts? x3me, the first step is to install Leopard nice + cleanly, how you'll maintain the installation and how you'll multiboot comes after. Firstly, focus on installation. I'd suggest to: 1) read both Robert's guide + my guide and see which one fits you. 2) chose only one guide and follow the steps. P5Q-EM can certainly boot/run Leopard with no problems. If you take this is as a hack, you'll have lots of fun, if you think that you'll spend 1 hour and have a real mac, it'll end in tears. have fun!
