The reason your processor isn't detected right is because that information is stored in your SMBIOS. You need to apply a SMBIOS patch to Leopard and it should detect the proper value. You can find this kext file from this website: http://######.com/index.php?option=...9&Itemid=74 . I used the first two and they worked fine. It still may show up as an Unknown Processor. Just use osx86tools to correct this. RAM seems to always come up as 800Mhz, I manually changed mine to 1066MHz using osx86 tools.

You're absolutely correct, the OC profile does adjust the voltages. In some cases, copying this can lead to an unstable system, as I experienced myself. In my opinion, this should be removed from the tutorial steps, as the only real adjustment needed after flashing the bios is to adjust the storage to AHCI. If I were you I would set everything back to defaults and just change the storage configuration to AHCI, just to be safe.

I already did that....I removed the CMO File.....Thanks.....Also thanks for the little tutorial above...I have included it in Post #1

w00t! The AttansicL1eEthernet.kext worked like a charm. I even inserted an old bluetooth device which got recognized immediately, and then paired my hackintosh with my apple wireless keyboard.

which graphics driver should I use for my NVIDIA 9800gtx? It has 512 MB Ram.

Also, my SATA DVD/CD-rom doesn't appear inside OS X, any tips?

Thanks! You helped out sooo much with this guide! I finally got everything working on my system with Asus P5Q Pro and Zotac 9800 GT!

Its amazing how well it runs. My PC runs OSX as good as my macbook just a lot faster :-)

Thanks again!

I tried upgrading to 10.5.6 and installing all updates. But sadly, after that I have no audio. Tried re-applying the kext too, but didn't help :)

Using the acl 1200 audio drivers on a p5q pro

EDIT: Ok, so I fixed it. I had to go to system preferences->sound and on the sound out-tab, choose internal speakers. It had been set to "interal digital out" after the system update?? :/

Well reading his earlier posts it seems he is unable to get the retail image to boot properly for install...

"I do not know what to do, since I returned to download the Mac OS X retail, but still the same ...

It is impossible to debug, because the screen is just all black = S

I have installed the ideneb 10.5.5

The following steps are good:

1. After Restart and a short Beep, press F8.

2. Select the Bootable USB Flash Drive and press ENTER. (Very Very Important)

3. Here Select the drive named RETAIL IMAGE.

I write '-v' and choose retail, but then after a while the screen is all black ...

Who can help me?"

hey all, i got my P5Q based system working perfectly stable..

i'd like to add another 2 gigs of ram but when i do, the machine won't boot past the grey apple logo

i've read all about the issue in this thread:

http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...7611&st=320

but am not sure which KEXT i should be replaceing

i've got 2 HDD's and one DVD burner in the box, both are SATA

is it just a simple matter of installing or swapping one of those kext's then i can boot with the 4gigs?

will this affect software updates in the future?

thanks for your help

My Asus P5Q EM, with an e5200 o/c to 3.45, 4 gb ram, Onboard sound alc1200 working, onboard lan

Realtek 81xx working OOB, usb k/b and mouse, start/shutdown working but not perfect, sleep

works, vanilla install using boot 132 and Munky's excellent EFI guide and a Sparkle 9500 GT

with full qe/ci using just EFI strings from OSXTools. Also added ethernet strings with OSXTools

so time machine works perfect.

I used your guide with great results with the only change was to use a 10.56 retail leopard

image instead of 10.54 (i had this incase but didn't use it) and replaced the OSInstall.mpkg.

after replacing the OSInstall.mpkg (I had a working iPC install at the time) i opened disk

utility, partitioned and formatted a 8 gb usb drive to Mac OS Journled. then restored the dmg

file to the usb stick.

with only a sata hdd drive (just one drive in the box), a sata dvdrw and my usb leo stick

plugged in. I boot with the generic iso and at the prompt for what drive i put 81 for the

second hdd (the usb stick is hdd2) and installs very quickly and have used this on a dual boot

notebook with a MBR as well as GUID drives without a problem. no issues on initial install

unless you use a ps2 k/b mouse. mine was usb

.

For my GFX and ethernet:

Istalled retail 10.56 so no video or ethernet kext were selected. My first try i used the

latest mac book kext, no ce/ci with or without gfx strings. so i used nothing. ethernet was

detected but time machine was not working.

I used OSXTools right from my desktop (i had installed all the applications fron iPC distro by

de selecting everything except the apps, but got an error message when trying to write to

boot.plist file) works if it's on the d/t.

Launched osxtools, click on add EFI strings, boot flags.

click on GFX Strings

custom GeForce hex

Name: nVidia GeForce 9500 GT

Memory: i used 1024 b/c that's what's on the card

Nvcap: i used DVI-I/VGA

Next i saved this to a hex file called GFX.HEX

Next i clicked on ethernet strings and saved this as ethernet.hex

then i pressed on combine hex files and selected both files at the same time

write to boot.plist and rebooted with full qe/ci and time machine.

switching resolutions results in a blue screen, i press the power button to sleep the box, then

press again to wake and i'm back on the desktop with the selected resolution. this was using an

old crt monitor thru the VGA port.

using a VGA To DVI adapter, resolution changes work perfect.

thanks to http://www.osxcores.site50.net/ for the modded bios for my P5Q EM, which made the

retail install a snap to do.

for sleep to work properly, i had to set one of 3 jumpers on the motherboard, consult your

manual for details. without this, you can't wake from sleep with the k/b or mouse.

Thanks for a great guide and it works with a 10.56 retail too!!

Thanks again Robert

Hi,

I tried to install MacOSX on my PC for several days no with no luck :/ Robert is my last hope ;)

First my PC:

Asus P5Q Pro

Intel Core2Quad 9550 2,83Ghz

Nvidia GTX 280 (MSI)

8 GB RAM

SATA DVD Drive

Second HD for MacOSX (250GB)

+ BIOS Flashed with version 2002 form the first post in this thread

+ Firewire is ENABLED

+ SATA is set to AHCI

At the beginning I tried to install Deneb 1.5 (10.5.6). Install goes fine, but the OS won't boot after that. It starts to boot and then always requests to restart the System:

http://dl.kips-world.de/mac/install_macosx_x86/IMG_0006.jpg

I tried to format the HD with MBR, with GUID - I tried booting from HD (after Install), from USB and with the Chameleon Boot-CD mentioned all over thread - everytime the same. I tried to boot with -x -F aswell. Heres the exact error Message when booting with -v:

http://dl.kips-world.de/mac/install_macosx_x86/IMG_0011.JPG

After these tries to install iDENeB failed, I tried to install form a original Retail DVD delivered with my new MacBook. Booted the Chameleon, changed Discs ... Leo starts to boot but after only 1 or 2 secs has a kernel panic:

I tried everything with 8GB Ram, 4GB and just 2GB installed ... all the same :/

I'm guessing it's the graphic card :/

Any ideas Robert? :<

I did a little researching for you and I think you're right. That is a very new graphics card. There's a way to boot it in VESA by deleting the kexts, but you will need divx player to play movies and you have to define your own resolution. Although it has been reported to work in the Snow Leopard builds with QE/CI. So if you "magically become a developer :) " and can get your hands on one and try it, go for it.

Otherwise, here's how to boot in VESA. I'll provide the link but I'll also quote it. (It's for the 260 version but i imagine its the same.)

http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...amp;mode=linear

If you already tried to install your geforce and the system won´t boot even if you trie the save mode "-X", than you can as mentioned, delete the kext in the singlemode and the system will start again in vesa-mode.

So do the following:

sbin/mount -uw /

LS /System/Library/Extensions

you´ll see the list with your kext

delete wrong kext:

rm -r /System/Library/Extensions/GeForce.kext

rm -r /System/Library/Extensions/NVDAN40Hal.kext

rm -r /System/Library/Extensions/NVDAN50Hal.kext

rm -r /System/Library/Extensions/NVDAResman.kext

then type in:

reboot

now, the system will boot again normally, you can work like before and try some different things.

Good luck!

Software raid is a solution on the p5q (and other) motherboards to allow a kinda of RAID for SATA disks, but where there's no dedicated RAID controller, the CPU handles everything.

See for example: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/FakeRaidHowto

I have windows installed on a software raid (raid), and I would really like to gain access to those drives(read only is enough) from OS X. Is that possible?

Hi there,

this really looks promising :P

Planning to install OS X on my PC now there seems to be a solution for my ati 4850. my mobo is ausus p5q pro

I am a lucky owner of a purchased retail OS X DVD. I bought it more or less at the release date of leopard for my macbookpro - so it should be 10.5.1 or something like that.

Is it possible to use this retail version with roberts guide? or would it be too complicated to update it to the current version?

MAC OS X Retail on ASUS P5Q / P5Q PRO /P5Q-EM /P5Q-VM AND OTHERS

Great Guide!

I wanted to add a few notes to your guide regarding the P5Q

For anyone having issues booting from power off you need to see my post HERE

If you are using the onboard Atheros with the AttansicL1eEthernet driver in this thread, your Time Machine will not work until you add an EFI string so the IOBuiltin value is flagged <true/>.

The attached is the EFI for it (P5Q only)... If you are also running EFI strings for graphics be sure to combine the attached with your GFX strings (OSX86Tools makes this easy)

Don't forget to delete the /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/NetworkInterfaces.plist after applying the strings

Hope this helps...

Searay

For ASUS P5Q deluxe users here is how to get stuff working:

BIOS:

Well you do need to flash your bios so use this file:

2001_BIOS_Asus_P5Q_Deluxe_for_MAC_OS_X___VISTA_Slic_all_OS__incl._by_Juzzi..ROM.zip

Ethernet:

Use IONetworkingFamily.kext to get the bottom one working (Marvell Yukon 88E8056 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller)

And Skge.ktext to get the top one working :) (Marvell Yukon 88E8001/8003/8010 PCI Gigabit Ethernet Controller)

IONetworkingFamily.kext.zip

skge_for_P5Q_Deluxe.zip

Shutdown Problem

You need OpenHaltRestart if you have problems shutting down/restarting etc..

OpenHaltRestart_1.0.3.kext.zip

Audio:

I recommend you use Azilla for now. There is a fully working solution here which makes everything work but you will maybe get a kernel panic while shutting down saying "appleHDA has corrupted the registry)

AppleAzaliaAudio.kext.zip
