Im cool with everything, but why disable LSI Firewire and Atheros Gigabit LAN? Do they not work, at all?

Atheros is not working. I tried with beta drivers but with no luck.

In system messages you can find:

ERROR: FireWire unable to determine security-mode; defaulting to full-secure.

I don't have any firewire device here, so I can not try if it works. Maybe this error is not crucial.

RoberT_XeS no one was able to answer my question about the Bios for the ASus Maximus X38 chipset MB. Is this P5Q Bios Mod only related to P45 and P43 chipsets ICH10?

What exactly is the issue that the Bios has to be Modded and what exactly is being changed in the Bios to make it so OSX86 can be installed or run?

Is a Bios update needed for P35 or X38 boards for Future Apple updates?

I have seen some other Mods floating around but not for the P35 and X38 chipset boards.

I would like to change the splash screen to Kewl Apple splash screen is really the most I would want to mod but isn't that a feature that I can do already to the ASus board without modding the Bios Code?

Thanks

No need to disable anything in the Bios...... I have both of them enabled.

Cool. Ive installed the Leopard 10.5.6 dvd with no problems whatsoever. I have a few questions which are killing me. Anyone kind enough to answer kicks ass :-P

1. I can't boot into OSX after installing nvkush & alc2000 with kext helper. I can only log in with safe boot mode. Ive tried the -f argument to remake kexts, but no luck. Whenever i try to go in normally, i get a black screen with a steady cursor on the upper left corner. Any suggestions? If i can cleanly reverse what i did, i won't have to reinstall everything again. I know NVInject 2.1 works as it did in Ideneb with all features, but don't want to cause more conflits

2. My CPU isnt being recognized. It says unknown. However, with iDeneb everything worked flawlessly, but i want the retail for stability. How can i tell what drivers i still need to install? Is there a device-manger like app in OS X?

3. What other patches do i need to install to have my retail osx running optimal?

Setup: Q9550 Intel quad core, P5Q-Pro, 8GB 1066 DDR2 Mem, 3 SATA Seagate 750gb, 2 SATA DVDRW

Also, ive burned the retail leo 10.5.6 to a dvd. I have the bootable flash drive from page 1, can i boot directly to the image instead of going through ideneb? Ive looked around and havent found a concrete answer. Ive already put the SATA DVD drive as the first device in the boot order, but when it reaches it, it says "Boot Ready" and times out, then going to the chameleon loader when it doesnt find anything.

Leopard Retail will not work....

You need to have Mac_OS_X_Leopard_10.5.4_9E25_Retail.dmg (7.01 GB)

The reason why I ask you to install IDeneb is to restore the image and then to replace the OSInstall.mpkg file, if you are trying to install OS X in MBR Disk.....

Also with the Bootable flash drive you will not be able to boot from the CD ROM.

If you are planning to install Retails OS X in GUID Disk then you can boot using the Bootable Boot 132 CD....http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=113288 and then install using the Mac OS X Retaild DVD that you have.......

I think you may be able to install OS X using your motherboard without Bios Mod...but I am not sure....

You need to edit the syslinux.cfg file

and the line should look like this

PROMPT 0

TIMEOUT 0

DEFAULT /mboot.c32 /boot --- /initrd.img

APPEND biosdev=81

You can try changing the number to 82, 83 according to the order of the drive

Thanks for the info, that got me to the right HD, however, I am wondering how I would edit the file so that it automaticly boots from a particular partition, in my case "hd(0,4)" which I call Leopard. Thanks again for all you help

Ok, this seems to get good and bad. I have the chameleon EFI-V9 bootloader install package. It asks me for a drive. I formatted to FAT32, named it EFIV9 and chose it as the drive selected. I run the installation.

I can then see the kext folder and everything, receipts, ect. Now, when i restart to actually try to use the damn thing, i get boot0 error. When i go into OSX through the USB boot132, EFIV9 disk isnt even mounted. I can't mount it either, it says it's not readable. What the hell?

My P5K-VM is dead!

I would replace it with this P5Q-EM. Let me know if it is possible to install my ORIGINAL Leopard 10.5.0 on GUID partition (Mac OS X only), using BOOT-132 (USB flash drive or CD-ROM) and after Chamaleon DFE.

Hello

I don't need xp/vista as I shall only be using OS X.

I've read people saying that I can use a GUID partition for this and that I won't need to do steps 6 and 7 of the guide.

i) How to I format the drive to GUID?

ii) Do I still need to create the bootable usb?

iii) After installation, will I still need to boot from the bootable usb or will it work straight of the Hard Drive that is has been installed on?

Thanks

i) I see people going crazy with Parted Magic (Linux partition utility) and all sorts of programs. Just boot into your OSX installer (iDeneb, iATKOS) and open the disk utility in the top menu. Select the drive you want to install OSX on, click options and select GUID patition table, instead of the typial MBR.

ii) Yes, it's one of the most important things. Kind of like a win98 startup disk but for OSX

ii) If you choose iDeneb or iATKOS, they include a bootloader and automatically add it in during installation. However, if you restore the retail image, you have to install a bootloader. Look around in the forums for the PCEFI v9 install package2 file. It's a .DMG file that automatically instals chameleon. Make sure you select OSX's hard drive, else it wont boot

Have 10.5.6 retail running on P5Q Pro - can't get audio working tho - have deleted and reinstalled ALCinject.kext and AppleHDA.kext several times with no joy...

Im i the same predicament. I have a small list of things i need to fix, but im getting through them slowly.

Can anyone please tell me how I can get the proper informatino about my CPU on abuot this mac? When i install iDeneb, the entire field is populated with a whole bunch of stuff. But it seems like i can't do it with PCEFIv9. I have SMBios.kext and it doesnt seem to load. I know its aesthetic, but im nuts. Thanks again!

Hi Robert!

First of all I would like to Thank you for putting up this instructions for installing MAC OS X on Asus P5Q Boards. You have my vote ;) .

I successfully installed iDeneb 10.5.5 and I will restore the retail image & updates after I finish downloading them, hopefully everything will work fine (wish me luck).

My only problems are audio & my video card. Audio is only working in 2 channel configuration (mic & line-in not yet tested). My ATI Radeon X1550pro works except QE :thumbsup_anim: (detected as Radeon X1300pro using ATIRadeonX1000.kext in iDeneb DVD)..Any help & suggestions is really appreciated.

My Video Card Specs:

My specs:

Asus P5Q

Core 2 Quad Q6600 @2.4Ghz

4GB (1GBX4) 800mhz Team Extreem Dark RAM

ATI Radeon X1550pro 512mb (NO QE) :(

80GB WD SATA HDD = MAC OS X

160GB Seagate SATA HDD = Windows 7, Vista, XP & Ubuntu

500GB Seagate SATA HDD = Data

Asus DVDRW IDE (Works during installation, no "Still waiting for root device" error) :D

I think the drive is not active......that is why you are receiving the error message....

Everything works in ASUS P5Q EM..... Sound, Lan... You can boot using the Boot 132 CD and then format your drive with GUID and you will be able to install Mac OS X Retail on your computer....

You need to select System Preferences > Sound > Output > Internal Speakers

Okay so I am looking at getting the P5Q Pro for my next system build and I was searching through the posts on here, but I was wondering if someone could just sum up what works on the system (preferably for 10.5.6). Does sleep, shutdown, restart work? What doesn't work? I already know the Atheros lan wont work, is there anything else? Normally I would just go ahead and check the HCL list on the wiki, but this board isn't listed on there yet.

Anybody know how to fix the about this mac issue? What file do i have to update? I saw iDeneb is populated with info that the others arent. It recognized my ipc as a Mac Pro and used the correct name for my CPU. I know it's aesthetic but its important to me.

I have a P5Q-Pro and everything but Atheros works.

Okay thank you very much. It was between this and a Gigabyte board, but I actually think this one is more compatible! I definitely plan on following this guide. Any tips for installing using P5Q Pro?
