AeonFlightz
Just to be cleared, we need a SATA DVD drive(or an adapter) and dual layer blank DVDs to burn the Mac_OS_X_Leopard_10.5.4_9E25_Retail.dmg image?(this is the part i'm confused about). Can anyone confirm that the on-board graphics, sound, lan, etc. on P5Q-EM working? I hope my computer has enough power to successfully install OSX: E6600 P5Q-EM 4GB DDR2 500GB HDD SATA IDE DVD BURNER I'm tempted to try this, I just don't want to mess up and have to reinstall Windows. keinerdoof
Hello to all... @ RoberT_XeS you have made a gread job, but i have a big problem with mit test konfig: Asus P5Q-pro with the modded bios 1613 from this board intel 6550 1 DDR2 800 Ram in single mode a old samsung sp1213c. The install of the Ideneb 1.3, Ideneb 1.4 or iAtkos 5 works great, i install with AHCI Mode. But the first reboot goes only in the raid mode, a boot in IDE or AHCI works not. If i am switch in the other mode, there is a blank screen, MACOSX don't start. But the bigger problem is: I am making a restore with the Mac OS X Leopard 10.5.4 9E25 Retail (step 3 to 8),then booting with the usb stick in AHCI mode ---> blank screen, booting in the Raid mode ---> it works, after the message "Extension "com.apple.driver.iTunesPhonedrive" has no explicit kernel dependency; using version 6.0" the screen show :Still waiting for root device . I think is a problem with the driver in the initrd.img file, i have failed a installation with the generic boot iso an the a burned retail dvd. Can any help me by my problem, i will work at the problem since 3 weeks.... thanks keinerdoof from germany

bavarianmw
Robert, Great guide, got retail working after many hours of trying. Retail runs awesome. Got a couple of questions hoping you can help me resolve. 1. I am thinking of backing up OSX with time machine and restore it again just as your guide but instead of using the retail dvd, use the backup with time machine. Will this work? 2. I've been trying to use time machine and save it to an external HD but time capsule is giving me an error saying that the airport utility was unable to find any apple wireless devices. I'm using the realtek USB WLAN client utility, Netgear WG111. I've made sure that the external HD is formatted using mac extended journal Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong? Umbris
Thanks for your advice.Would one should I download from ? Cause I find some file for i7, I'm not sure what is correct for P5Q. AHCI fix is in the first page of this thread. Other files: AppleACPIPlatform.kext, AppleSMBIOS.kext and other kexts are on your usb boot stick or boot cd in the compressed file initrd.img (just double click file and it will be mounted as disk) in the folder Extra/Extensions. There is no need to search for kexts somewhere else.

Umbris
I have installed it and run it now 2 Days and I must Restart my PC two times per Hard Restart and all Freezes. You must be more specific. When freezes? I guess you didn't try to enable/install graphic drivers. If you have problems with restart and shutdown, read again the whole thread for possible solutions, but maybe the problem cannot be solved completely. robertstern77
Hi Everyone, So, I Installed this setup on a (P5Q-EM, Q6600, 8GB DDR2-800, 9800GTX) and everything has been going great for about 2 weeks. Thanks again! I have 3 little issues, I was hoping someone might be able to shed some light. Most important 1. When I have iTunes or Quicktime open, my mouse has a weird lag, like it will move fine then all of a sudden it will jump. This is consistent and it happens in the same time intervals (about every 4-5 seconds). the pointer will just freeze for a split second and then reappear in the direction I was moving it, but with a gap from the frozen point. 2. When I shutdown, everything turns off except the internal fans, as if the power supply is still on. 3. In the Sound System preference, all I have is HD Audio Output, I have no input and none of the digital or front panel jacks show up. Anyhelp would be greatly appreciated. Umbris
2. When I shutdown, everything turns off except the internal fans, as if the power supply is still on. Read previous posts. You should copy kexts from initrd.img from usb boot stick to system extensions folder. But even then you will not be able to shutdown pc all the time. Besides, do you have any idea how can I output sound by coaxil ? Sorry, I have no need for this, so I didn't try.

dudedudedude
Robert and All following this post Again thanks for helping me make a $600 Mac Pro. I have put the usb boot files onto a 32 MB FAT32 partition. I have a total of 3 partitions on the OS hard drive. I was wondering how I alter the boot files so that I don't have to select the partition with Leopard in it to boot in Darwin, ie when I turn the computer on or restart it automaticly boots to the leopard partition. Soory I know this is probably a noob question but i couldnt find anything that i could understand on google. Thanks, Dude

oSxFr33k
What is the purpose of this Bios Mod? I have the ASus Maximus Forumula Special Edition which has the X38 chipset. I was thinking of updating to this ASus P45 but will I really need to? I have the QUad Core Extreme either the QX9650 or the QX6850 don't remember which one, with 8 GB corsair Memory. I probably will not need to go up to 16GB memory and that's the only thing I see the new P5Q P45 series chipset MB offers? Was their a problem with the X38 or P35 memory controllers forcing Intel to release the P43 and P45 chipsets? DO you have to have a Modded Bios for the Near Equivalent GigaByte MB GA-EP45-DQ6? Not sure if I am going to go with the GB or ASUS MB? I thought the GB MB were the most compatible with OSX86? I know they have Realtek LAN and Audio chipsets maybe thats why? ASus normally have some off the wall chipsets for LAN and Audio on their MB's. MArvell Yukon and AD2001B etc FX cards. Is there any support for my Asus Maximus Formula X38 chipset board? I can't find that much for threads on it? I basically need a LAN and Audio driver for it. Not sure what settings to choose for the pciX or iDENEB 10.5.6 install DVDs. Would I need a Modded Bios for the Asus Maximus Formula as well or is this a P45 chipset and or Asus P5Q issue or Gigabyte GA-EP45-DQ6? Hope someone has some links for that board and an answer as to which manufacturer to upgrade to either Asus or GigaByte and which GigaByte board? Is there a better Asus P43 or P45 DDR2 chipset Board choice so as to do less modding?
_r_
I've used this guide to install 10.5.6 retail successfully on my PC (Asus P5Q mobo). The OS is working really fast and stable, the sleep option works smoothly too. However, if I try to shutdown my PC it won't power off, in verbose mode I get the Halted message but after that VGA signal goes off, I can see my G15 Keyboard screen flickering (like if the power coming from the USB was too low to keep the LED display on), but the computer won't completely shutdown. Same thing happens with restart, but the "flickering keyboard phase" lasts for 20 seconds, after that it restarts with no side effects. I tried to replace some kexts from iDeneb 10.5.5, where I experienced no problems during the setup of the DVD Retail partition, I also installed the OpenHaltRestart module as said in the guide, I found a poweroff_fix method which was based on the execution of a script before shutting down, and tried the cpus=1 boot option, but I had no success with any of this options. Does anyone else finds itself in the same situation? Is there any fix / workaround to this issue? Any help / advice will be welcomed
Umbris
I think nobody has "simple" solution for shutdown problems, on most boards under 10.5.6. Maybe there is possibility with DSDT patcher (It makes bios more compatible). Search on site and you will find the info. If you can experiment, post your results back here. http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...3683&st=520 http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...amp;mode=linear

Try this: QuickTime 7.6 Continues Mouse Stuttering…1/24/2009 Users of nVidia cards based on the G84 and G92 chips have lately been experiencing a case of the mouse jitters with 10.5.6. This was found to be due to a bug in QuickTime and there were various workarounds, many involving downgrading QuickTime. Apple's latest QuickTime 7.6 seems to cure the issues for some, others it just stays the same, and for some select people the update brings the stuttering issue to them when they've never had it before. The solution to fixing this madness is not very hard. Download this file and place it in /System/Library/QuickTime. This fix is not perfect as it messes up some apps that use QuickTime like Wiretap Studio but its the only solution right now. Let's hope that Apple fixes this soon… http://######.com/blog/?p=
