This is a really good tutorial Robert!! I could not imagine that it would be so easy to load OSX on my PC - Thanks a million!!

I have Video, Audio & Lan working, with some instability on the LAN (P5Q-EM). Has anyone found a kext for the LAN controller on the p5Q-EM that is solid?

I don't suppose you are anyone else may have faced a NTLDR issue during ths process? I have XP and OSX on the same HDD and get a missing NTLDR error when booting with the flash drive after selecting the XP OS. I have not copied the boot files to the FAT 32 partition yet so I am still booting from the flash drive. I tried editing the boot.ini file and pointing it to every partition on the drive without success. Another minor difference in my config vs. the tutorial step 8 2nd pic is that my partition lables are (1,1) Windows XP (1,2) Fat32 (1,3) Retail Image and (1,4) MACOSX instead of (0,1), (0,2),(0,3),(0,4) etc. - not sure if this matters.

Any help would be very appreciated!!

If I cannot figure it out by tonight I'm going to reinstall XP on HDD #2 and have it boot natively into that drive (same as Robert's config) and F8 into OSX when needed. - This likely makes more sense than pressing F8 every time I boot.

If I copy the boot files onto the Fat32 partition in the OSX drive, will I still have to press F8 to get the boot options?

Thanks again Robert and everyone else that has contributed!!

If you install OSX on a hard drive by itself do you still have to boot with usb drive. Can you boot from HD. I plan to install on a dedicated Hard Drive.

Yes.... you can try iATKOS 10.5.4

I am not sure how to write a .dmg file..... You can try this forum

http://forums.macrumors.com/archive/index.php/t-32037.html

EDIT:

How to burn a .dmg file.....http://forums.macrumors.com/archive/index.php/t-32037.html

Also if you are trying to install MAC OS X Retail directly from the DVD (Keep in mind the following points)

1. you need to create a Bootable Boot 132 CD first instead of USB Bootable Drive, you can download it from here http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=113288

2. You need to boot from the Bootable Boot 132 CD first and then replace it with the MAC OS X Retail DVD.

3. You need to format the disk as GUID in which you will be installing MAC OS X ITS IMPORTANT.

How do you install the ktext after this setup...Also do you still need to boot from usb drive.

also how are you guys burning the retail copy on windows. I cant find a .dmg burner.
i wonder same here..

Here's one method that doesn't involve a Mac: http://www.magiciso.com/FAQ/FAQ0011.htm

Sorry Guys......

I tried to create the Boot 132 CD using Slimbuild Boot 132 ISO Creator from PCWIZ but I am not able to create the Boot 132 Iso file.

The problem is the iso is getting created but there are no kexts inside the intrid.img file.

If someone can try it at their end..... Use the kext from the initrd.img file which is inside Boot 132 files included in post # 1

Do you have any idea why the Boot 132 isn't working on USB Flash Drives for some of us?

Hi Robert

I finally tried it - and it worked! Thanks for this guide!

Now I have 5 small problems. I'm sure you can help me with these:

SOLVED:

I want to boot in high resolution. (apple logo)

Added this in the apple.boot.plist on the Macintosh HD:

<key>Graphics Mode</key>

<string>1920x1200x32</string>

SOLVED:

And I want to boot without confirming the disk. If possible it would be nice to not even see anything of the bootloader.

With this one it boots without asking. But still the Syslinux is visible.

<key>Quiet Boot</key>

<string>Yes</string>

PROBLEM NOT SOLVED: The standby doesn't work. The system just wakes up immediately after sleep.

It is definately because of the LAN. If I unplug the cable it doesn't wake up. If I plug it in it wakes up immediately. So I have to disable this WakeOnLAN - but how?

PROBLEM NOT SOLVED: Restart doesn't work either. The PC just remains black. Not a big issue if not possible to solve. Shutdown gives a Kernel Panic...

SOLVED:

Quicktime mouse lag experience with the 8800GT... (not a problem of the installation itself)

Here's the solution:

Thanks to Chrysaor!

Thanks!

How do you install the ktext after this setup using boot 132...Also can you still do step 11 in your guide after doing this method

No need to install the kexts if you are booting with the use of Boot 132 it will automatically load the kexts while booting. But if the devices are not working then you can install the kexts using kexthelper.

Yes you can try step 11

Hi Robert, i' m from argentina. I make each of points like you said and I have installed ideneb without problems. I make the pendrive Boot 132, install ideneb, unmount os retail etc, etc, but, I can't install the retail sistem.

I boot with 132 files (from a pendrive), select the opciones (video, kext helper, etc) but when y press "install" automatically show me the the error "install failed" (http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?act=attach&type=post&id=42023). Don't show me an install process, it's automatically the error stage. I also prove Kalyway but it's the same.

Can you help me please?

thans foll all!! if I can't at least, I have Ideneb working in my sistem.

No need to worry, I have already mentioned in Post # 1 that you will receive this error message just restart the system and then boot using the USB Flash Drive and then you will be able to login to Mac OS X Retail.

I could install Leopard on my ASUS P5QLPro but can't get network working. I see following error message in the log:

"loaded version 5.6.0 of module com.apple.iokit.IONetworkingFamily differs from requested version 1.6.1", even though /Sys/Lib/Ext/ION../C/version.plist shows it is 1.6.1.

I installed RT2500 driver and the driver for DLink WUA 1340. I even installed the Attansic Gb ethernet driver. But I guess everything fails because of IONetworkingFamily. I tried replacing the IONetworkingFamily from ToH kexts but that didn't help either. Somehow, the kernel loaded version is showing it as 5.6.0. Naturally my time machine does not work either. So does the audio, I see an error message stating that Sound assertion "1" failed in /SourceCache/AppleHDA/AppleHDA-162.1.37/AppleHDA/AppleHDAWidget.cpp at line 1658 goto handler.

Any help would be highly appreciated.

Thanks.

For Audio:

First remove AppleHDA.kext, ALCInject.kext and AppleAzaliaaudio.kext and then install the drivers.......

Thanks for the input. However, my bigger problem is the network. Is there a solution for that? Why do IONetworkingFamily version showing up as 5.6.0 whereas the version from version.plist shows up as 1.6.1? If anyone knows the workaround please let me know.

Thanks a lot.

For those who still have problems to make bootable flash-pen disk.

Follow instructions on the first page, but ...

If under Vista: right click on Command Promt and run as Administrator.

If you cannot get active partition: use "-ma" arguments. For example: syslinux.exe -ma r:

There are also some advices to format pen drive with 512b cluster size but I'm not sure that this is mandatory.

I hope this would help to spare a few minutes or hours to somebody. Lets go on!

Has somebody sleep working?!

I can "sleep" and shutdown well in 10.5.5, but never get them done in 10.5.6.

I can't use time machine in both, but can do it well in iDeneb v1.3.

I really like time machine and want to use it in 10.5.6, any one can give me a hand?

I'll also give iDeneb v1.4 a try.

In the next few weeks, I'll try to set up a computer working with a P5Q mobo with a Core2Quad processor and I'll also try to install Vista and OS X in dual boot but I have some questions before I'll start trying your guide. I tried to follow and understand everything as far as I know but I have some doubts about how to create a dual-boot

1. I planned to install Vista before OS X, skip Step 11 and set the Boot priority to USB, DVD, HDD. If I start the computer without any USB flash drive and DVD in the computer, will I start in Vista?

2. If the answer of #1 is "yes", if I insert the USB flash cart when the computer starts, will it boot in OS X?

I want to use this computer on Vista primary but my PowerMac G5 is getting old so it would be great to have OS X working on my new PC. I'm planning to use only 1 HDD for the moment for both OS.

And one last question:

3. If I plan to use a USB key to boot in OS X, how many patitions do I need for this to work? I think 3 should be enough (1 Vista, 1 MacOS, 1 for the Retail Disc).

Also, your tutorial is incredibly well done, it would be great if you could just add what would happens if the user don't use a correct USB flash drive when rebooting the computer and how to boot in Windows when MacOS is installed. Otherwise, great job Robert and I will come back to answer "yes" to the pool when I will receive the missing part of my new computer.

Oh and before I forget, can anyone link me the steps or any references on how to set OS X to work with an nVidia GeForce GTX 260?

Thanks!

1. Format the USB Flash Drive.

2. Open CMD and enter CD C:\1\win32 (I suppose you extracted the Syslinux files into C:\1\ folder)

3. Type in the command syslinux.exe -ma R: if your drive letter is R, this will make the USB Flash Drive Acive and will also copy ldlinux.sys into the Drive (This is visible only if you unhide the system files from Tools> Folder Option > View > )

4. Copy the contents from the Boot 132 into the USB Flash Drive.

5. Now check if the drive is Active and then reboot..

Many thanks, it works fine, now I can boot from any of my active hard drive partitions. But, one question. Can I boot with this method from a retail Leopard DVD? I try it, and only appear the hard drives. I want to install Leopard 10.5.6 retail in a partition on entire hard drive, with GPT scheme. Is needed to install iDeneb first?

Many thanks in advance.

(P5Q Pro with Core 2 Quad Q8200 and XFX 8600GT XXX, SATA Hard drives, SATA DVD-/+RW, IDE Hard Drive, IDE DVD-/+RW)

Do you have the same issue as I have? Sleep just wakes up automatically? If so, then we just have to find out how to ignore network and USB to wake up the system.

But how to...?

Exactly the same with yours, never sleep in both 10.5.6(retail and iDeneb). Can't shutdown like Windows, neither.

I think it's about the USB IO as you mentioned.

Tried this, but no use at all. I used kext in 10.5.5, and it crashed. I have to reinstall again.

Need more luck!

BTW, I'm doing it with P5Q-EM.
