Squirrelf
skx: could you add to your first post with the JMicronATA the option "put the HD to sleep when possible" must be turned off (in System Pref / Energy Saver) this will avoid more issues with new users
OwenMcGarry
This is very odd. My BIOS settings are correct. When I try booting from an external CD using the BOOT 132 cd first, once I put in the iDeneb cd it never loads, it gives me the apple screen forever. If I do the same thing and put in the official Install CD I get the gray-screen-of-death. I ran iDeneb without the BOOT 132 cd, and it seemed to work fine. It booted the installer, reformatted everything and I installed it to the hard drive without any extentions (as mentioned in the first post) then I tried installing it to a external drive with all extentions. both the installs seemed to go correctly, but when I boot it gives me the aple with a cross through it. It tells me that it is still waiting for root device

It tells me that it is That's an expected behavior... boot 132 is designed to work with original retail DVD of OSX which cannot be booted on a BIOS system, modified DVDs are already modified to boot on any PC system, so boot 132 is rather useless in your case. because some of the modification made on those "special" DVDs like iDened, Kaliway, etc... may not always be compatible with how boot 132 works... However the install being done, the boot 132 may now work in order to boot your system Now a little advice... Using boot 132 and retail DVD is probably the best option, many of us here have a great system running now would you rather install a modified version of OSX without knowing about the modification made, therefore have a much harder time to track things that are going wrong, or install the original OSX DVD, with very minimal modification and have an easier time to track problems , especially that we have tracked and fixed (with or without workarounds) almost any problem that we've had. Those modifications are actually just about installing few drivers like we would do on a fresh windows install... and you can update OSX without any issues.... The only small issue is when you sleep the computer while having a usb HD or flash drive connected they are disconnected then reconnected badly when you wake the computer up, all you have to do is unmount/eject them before sleeping the computer... And the second major workaround for a stable system is disabling the option "put the HD to sleep when possible"(in System Pref / Energy Saver), especially if you use IDE HD... that's it I made a little how to once OSX is installed few post earlier (at this point you boot with the boot132 until you actually install the needed drivers) and follow my how to... iDeneb, Kaliway, Jas, etc .... are great for computer that are not very compatible with OSX base system... where the kernel itself must be modified in order to even boot the system... depending on how the boot system was installed with those modified DVDs you may very easily run into trouble when you update,
OwenMcGarry
Thank you very much, I didn't quite know how to use the boot 132 cd I suppose. But I'm still having a problem. When I boot now after the gray apple screen the monitor turns off and thinks it has no signal. Video card driver issues? This is the card.

Yeah very likely so yeah you need to add the string rockstarjoe generated in the com.apple.Boot.plist you can do that by booting again on the install DVD through the command line OR edit: generated myself rockstarjoe probably had the 256Mb version, because the string I had was different ... I made you a custom boot 132 ( took me 1min since the string was ready... using SlimbuildGUI ) boot 132 ONLY when using a 8400GS 512MB (and a GA-EP45-UD3R):GA_EP45_UD3R_with_8400GS_512.iso.zip I reinstalled my system using a custom string on the boot 132 for my video card too (8800GTS 320MB), so I know this boot 132 will work very well... so you don't have to reinstall your system just boot with this disk but if you need to reinstall you system later use this disk instead of any other boot

jomanscool2
Using the audio files I have posted in the first post, I have no problems at all with digital in or out. It works perfect... and even better than in Windows! It does show up as digital in and out in Logic, haven't checked system preferences... pretty sure it does though because I'm routing all my system sounds out that way. Hmm, would you mind checking system profiler and system preferences for me? I don't have logic, so I can't see if it shows up there. Audio (Built In): Intel High Definition Audio: Device ID: 0x1458A002 Audio ID: 12 Available Devices: Speaker: Connection: 1/8 inch Jack Microphone: Connection: 1/8 inch Jack S/P-DIF Out: Connection: Internal Intel High Definition Audio: Device ID: 0x148CAA08 Audio ID: 12 Available Devices: That is from my system profiler. I have audio out working on Internal Headphones, and 3.5mm headphone and line in working - Don't have a particularly easy setup to test SPDIF with, although I assume it would work since it shows up. Sprefs shows: Output: Internal Speakers Headphones Line Out Digital Out Input: Internal microphone Line in Line out. Bracket I have installed Going to try reinstalling kext from your first post. I can also try installing XP and sound drivers in XP to see if it shows up there. Would love to get this working! Is there any bios configuration and/or do I actually have to have a cable connected for it to work?
yakapo
I've successfully installed 10.5.6 retail using the bootloader. Thanks all for the helpful posts. jomanscool2
I would just like to post that I have Digital In and Out working using SKX's audio codec. I have only tested Optical SPDIF, not coaxial, but both in and out worked. Optical in appeared under Sys Prefs as Line Out (under the input tab). Confusing, but it works! Love this motherboard - I am AMAZED at how well it works with mac os x.

carls
I had surfed all the posts about EP45 and I found Eliade's tutorial is easy and stable So according to Eliade's tutorial and I success install 10.5.6. Everything is all right but I got a problem is I couldn't get the correct memory and CPU information. Mine spec is GIGABYTE EP45T-UD3R (it's support DDR3) , 2.83 GHz Intel Core 2 Quad 9550 , and GeForce 9600 GT. But About This Mac show 2GB 1333 MHz RAM and 4GHz Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 . Does anyone have the same problem in your EP45-UD3R/EP45T-UD3R? Thanks for your reading. My HOW TO My system is super stable, just waiting for JMicronATA to crash (still didn't since I turned off "Sleep HD when possible" option) Bios is using optimised default, except for AHCI on SATA (2 places where you need to change that on the same BIOS page) boot 132 install, GUID partition type (instead of MBR) I use Chameleon 1.0.12 aka PCEFIv9 to boot from HD, it super easy to install... here it is: Bootloader_efiv9_chameleon_1.0.12.pkg.zip I have a local ethernet static IP setup, handy for me on my network (for a small Mac OS only 3D renderfarm) I don't know if that does anything good, at least it does not do anything wrong get the kext post 54, use all of them except replace AppleHDA (for sound) and my JMicronATA (for IDE drives) with the one on the first post by slx and search for OpenHaltRestart.kext for full system shutdown (sleep and reboot works without it) EDIT: you can download all these extensions in one pack here: Extensions_GA_EP45_UD3R.zip install them all in S/L/E (backup the original before doing that, it might come in handy later), I use kext Helper for that here is kext helper: Kext_Helper_b7.app.zip I use UIinstaller, to add EFI string for ethernet and video card (if you have more than one HD double check that the OSX drive is the one selected on top, by default it might not ....) here it is Uinstaller: Add_EFI_String.zip in System Pref / Energy Saver, disable "sleep HD when possible", I suspect its the reason why my system crashed when using JMicronATA voila The only known issue, is if a usb flash drive or usb HD is connected and you sleep the computer, when you wake up the computer, they will disconnect and reconnect for 1sec, and you get the "Device Removal" Warning ... therefore I don't sleep my system when I have usb flash or HD connected ... JMicronATA, so far it is stable as long as sleep HD is disabled ... time will tell everything else works did you add efi string for your video card if you didn't you may use Uinstaller to add the string I never really check if it would work without the EFI string, but adding it doesn't harm anything So the only "major" difference with our setup might be the EFI string for ethernet if you didn't then use Uinstaller just for the EFI string, don't check any other option... if you did add the EFI string then I don't know
garmone
BOOT 132 CD anyone about to (re)install OSX and want to try out my freshly made boot 132 CD ? (please give me feedback if you do use it) DOWNLOAD HERE: GA_EP45_UD3R.iso.zip --> if you have the retail DVD on a DVD then after booting on the CD you probably only have to switch the CD for the retail OSX DVD and is should work ... First and foremost, thank you for all your work with this motherboard. I get a kernel panic at AppleACPIPlatform (I think) when I try to load off the retail DVD (after booting off of your iso). garmone
try thatGA_EP45_UD3R___boot132.iso.zip Great, thank you. I'll give it a shot right now. Out of curiosity, is there anything special I need to do to the target HD before trying another boot 132 attempt? If I just do the regular repartition before install off the retail dvd is that sufficient to "wipe" the tracks of the last (failed) attempt? I'll post my experience. EDIT: Okay, I get the same kernel panic booting off this new iso. Not sure if this photo will help... Suggestions are more than welcome. Thank you! garmone
try thatGA_EP45_UD3R___boot132.iso.zip I'm starting to think it's me... I tried making an iso using files provided by WinstonAce on post #67 from this discussion link and got the same kernel panic. At this point I'm not sure how best to proceed. I'm vaguely aware of this alternative retail method in which you install something like kalyway on another disk, and then install to the desired destination from there. Does anyone have step-by-step instructions for that approach? Thank you Edit Is there anything special you need to do in the BIOS other than switch the Integrated Peripherals to AHCI in both places? So that I'm clear, if I use the grub-dfe.iso from Auzigog to install off the retail DVD, I can then follow your instructions above? 1) For the Chameleon: do I need to add any kexts at that point or just run the program? 2) To install in my System/Library/Extensions (S/L/E) folder using kext helper, do I simply manually copy out the original kext files into a folder on my desktop for example and then run the program to appropriately install the replacements? 3) For the UInstaller, you're just selecting your video card type (8600GT in my case) and Ethernet fix? No other kexts to add or re-installing the PC_EFI? (if I do use the UInstaller for my video card, should it recognize that I have dual monitors or is that an additional step?) 4) Because I won't have used your boot132 iso, is there anything else that I would need to do or by installing the kexts in your package, am I essentially recreating your iso? 5) Assuming no mishaps, I can perform all the updates after doing the above? Or would it be better to do so before? 6) Finally, if by some miracle, all goes well and I have a functional install booting off the HD, is there a way to then clone the drive (including the boot partition) so that if when I break it, I can just restore that image? Perhaps I should just give it a shot tonight and see how it goes. Thank you again!

YES 1/ run chameleon first then add kext after, but add them before you reboot (if you do reboot withoutt adding kext, just use the grub-dfe again) 2/ if you use kext helper, after you applied the new kext, a backup folder is created automatically at the root of your drive, just make a copy of that folder somewhere however copying manually directly from the S/L/E is fine too, if you need to reapply them later kext helper with take care of the permission issue automatically 3/ YES in Uistaller just do what I say Video and ethernet nothing else, don't install EFI again ( technically it should be the exact same thing as the chameleon I posted, but never tried it through Uinstaller) multimonitor is a simple as plugin in the second monitor, you may have to go through "Displays" in the Syst Pref, as you would do on a real mac to ajust resolution if it is not already right... or set up the physicall location and main monitor... 4/ using grub dfe or my boot132 is the same thing in the end... the only major difference is that I added kext on the cd for ethernet support without having to install the kext right away... in the end you will have to install this kext anyway... I like to have my system up to date (now 10.5.6) before doing any modification to the system (installing chameleon and needed kext), by using my boot132 you're just avoiding the step of installing the ethernet kext twice... nothing more SO if you use grub dfe just install k1000.kext using kext helper, reboot, and update to 10.5.6 then start my How to, we'll have the same system at the end 5/ as I said I would do the updates before doing all the modification, well at least the major update to 10.5.6 right after you have finished installing OSX (10.5.1 or 10.5.4 I suppose) just install k1000.kext to have ethernet to be able to update... you may do smaller updates after the my How To, that won't change anything 6/ TWO things you may do First Thing: use Time machine during the install in the menu you have an option to reinstall you system from a time machine backup and keep that time machine backup away from your system, so it's not messed up (or just disable time machine so that it's not doing "messy" backup, use another disk for that if you want to) However one system folder is not backed up with time machine, and if you restor a whole system from a TM backup you'll get warning or errors if you look at the console. the fix is recreating manually those folder, just time the error message in google and you'll find the way to fix that it's easy... Second thing ( I just did to change the hard drive without having to reinstall anything) I used Carbon Copy Cloner.app (freeware search in google) it will clone you disk onto another, after the cloning is done reinstall chameleon (with the installer I uploaded in my how to), but be sure the install target disk is that backup disk this disk will be a perfect clone, ready and bootable :-) the new disk does not need to be the same size as the original disk :-) Have fun by the way my IDE kext works great (as long as "Sleep HD when possible" is disabled) I didn't have a Panic in weeks, So I consider my system Super stable (all based from my how to)

In the end, I used a kaly install on another disk to allow me to easily work with the kexts as I'm not great at the terminal. Because things had gone so poorly for me in the past, I ended up installing the kexts basically one at a time. What I learned was that the AppleAHCIPort.kext from your pack caused a kernel panic while being installed. I ended up reinstalling the backed up version (after a failed attempt with the "Legacy" version I found googleing). At this point, I've installed everything except the jmicron kext because I'm not sure if I need that or what I would need that for... As you suggested, the dual monitors work beautifully. I'm going to do the backing up now. Thank you very much for your help!
