chance9888
Hi all. I'm building my first HaCkInToSh. Currently running on an iMac, i have an idea of what it will be like. I've tried before with an older computer, but it was an absolute failure. I have an extra Celeron - D lying around and a few other things, but no video card. If anybody could help me find a good motherboard, it would be great. I need it to be on the cheapside, too. (as in, no more than $80.00). If there is one you know of that cost a little over that but is perfect tell me. I AM WILLING TO STRETCH MY BUDGET A BIT. I plan to put Leopard on it, so if anyone has any recommendations please submit it. Any help is appreciated. -Chance Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/141196-cheapest-best-celeron-d-motherboard/ Share on other sites
OSXtotheZ
I've had good success with the ECS 945GCT everything except sleep works and can use celeron or core 2 duo Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/141196-cheapest-best-celeron-d-motherboard/#findComment-1024421 Share on other sites
vbetts
Try looking for something with an intel chipset. The most recent chipset I know of that supports the celeron D model is the 945. But if you want better performance, you can get the celeron dual core which is based off of conroe for $50. Synaesthesia
Option 1 : Get a ECS 945GCT which has built in graphics that work - $40. You can buy a graphics card as well for less than $50 to soup up the graphics. Anything from a $20 7200GS - well anything that's in this list of working graphics cards : (list of working GFX cards) Option 2 : Get a Gigabyte GA-G31M-ES2L for $55. This is a better motherboard with overclocking/quad core support etc. But now you must buy a graphics card to go with it. vbetts
G31 chipset doesn't support the Celeron D though. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/141196-cheapest-best-celeron-d-motherboard/#findComment-1025169 Share on other sites
chance9888
Thanks all. I was gonna spend way more than i would have to, but you saved me on that. I like the ECS 945GCT. I think i might go with it, but does anybody know if all the other ports work? (atleast Ethernet and Audio) ? I think i might go with it, but does anybody know if all the other ports work? (atleast Ethernet and Audio) ? Yea all the ports work but the audio is a tough one. I just baught an usb adapter. You have to use a the hda patcher and audio out only works through the mic port . Something i wasnt gonna do. But you can find all the info you need in the "mostly successful install" thread in osx86 installation sections of the forum. There's also a modified bios for 45nm support that you'll have to use. The latest bios from ECS breaks osx support. Dr. Hurt
Get the board in my signature. VERY compatible with OS X. Everything fully working out of the box. GMA950 recently fixed. ALC662 needs patching but fully work including digital and port detection and switching.
