VCH888
Hi, can anyone help me get ALC889 sound to work? My system: Acer Aspire 6920g - iDeneb 10.5.6 I posted a linux codec dump here. @DPyro Could you get EVEREST Ultimate Edition [Trial version]? then open it after installation finished. go to Menu bar --> select Report --> open Report Wizard --> click Next --> choose Custom selection --> click Next --> select Computer, Motherboard, Display, Multimedia, and Devices --> click Next --> choose Plain Text --> click Finish wait until finish and save file. after that please post your file. I will see whether it could be working.
DPyro
Heres the report you asked for. EDIT: Some pics after I edited one of the ALC889A kext from the first post with my DevID. EDIT 2: I added a converted linux dump (decimal) and codecgraph. Not sure what I'm suppose to do with these. Sound still doesn't work yet, but I guess that's to be expected as I haven't fully edited it. Report.txt ALC889.rar

VCH888
@DPyro 6920g.zip Try it. I saw you posted sound info "Device ID: 0x10250146" that is the same as "Subsystem Id: 0x10250146" of Codecdump. I think you have a chance to get it work. I think you didn't patch AppleHDA from 85 08 ec 10 to 89 08 ec 10 on your work.

DPyro
@DPyro Try this 6920g. The old 6920.zip was removed. Ok, sound options show in preferences/sound and midi, but still no sound. See master stream is still disabled. Also, most error messages are gone except one: Sound assertion "0 == fMikeyDriver" failed in "../AppleHDADriver.cpp" at line 1063

DPyro
Oh, so you have ALC889 too? So sad I found a diagram that might help: Taken from the Datasheet attached. I also thought this is interesting: Power Management All power management state changes in widgets are driven by software. Table 13 shows the System Power State Definitions. To simplify power management in the ALC889, only Audio Function (NID=01h) supports power control. Output converters (DACS) and input converts (ADCs) have no individual power control. Software can configure whole codec power states through the audio function (NID=01h). Software may have various power states depending on system configuration. Mon4rch
Hello, I am new in this osX86 stuff, I have 6920g with ALC889a codec (I hope) so I installed the kexts from 6920g zip. Now in About this Mac I can see ports, codec name etc. But I don't see any hardware in sound pane. And when I look into Console it only gives me: ---Mar 27 17:54:58 localhost kernel[0]: Sound assertion "0 != setupHostInterrupt ()" failed in "/SourceCache/AppleHDA/AppleHDA-162.1.37/AppleHDAController/AppleHDAController.cpp" at line 253 goto Exit--- Do you know, what's wrong? thank u. coconup
These following files have no front mic that causes of "Sound assertion "0 == fMikeyDriver" failed in "/SourceCache/AppleHDA/AppleHDA-162.1.37/AppleHDA/AppleHDADriver.cpp" at line 1063 goto handler." guys just change external mic to line in both in verbs and in pathmaps to get rid of this
les_paulde
Tmongkol, thanks for all your hard work! You've allowed a lot of people to enjoy their osx systems and thats just awesome! I've been reading this topic for a while as I also have an acer aspire 6920g, and have got everything working (ideneb 10.5.6) except for the sound. I've tried many different alc889a kexts, but none of them would make any sound hardware show up. With your 6920g drivers I can now see the hardware under system profiler, but not under the sound options. I guess this is the same problem all the 6920g users seem to be having here. I'm afraid i don't know enough yet to know where to begin solving this myself, but I just wanted to say that I'm more than willing to do anything that may help to solve this issue! If there's anything I can do just let me know! thanks again for all your efforts, you da man!!
Mon4rch
@les_paulde: U're writing, that everything is working on ur laptop, and whatabout wifi? Have u solved it? If so, please PM some kind of guide. THX
les_paulde
@mon4rch: sorry but wifi is the other thing thats still not working. I'm following the other thread on that topic as well.. But bluetooth, ethernet, full graphics acceleration, webcam are all working. lemme know if you need any help with that!
DPyro
So you both have an Acer 6920g? Maybe we can team up to get this sound issue resolved....Didn't know the webcam worked as mine is broken in windows also. I think the cable inside is crimped or something... BTW I've managed to get internal and external mic working as well as noise on the headphone jack. EDIT: Just fixed my webcam (had to peel the sticker off and push the webcam up with a nail filer - it seems the webcam is very easy to dislodge by accident). ...Nevermind, seems the webcam is completely dead now... les_paulde
Yeah, it seems there are many 6920g users in this forum, lets hope that power of the masses can get this sound issue fixed! Thats awesome you got your mic fixed, how did you go about making it appear under sound options? My main problem is that I just don't know where to begin looking and knowing how you went about fixing the mic might show me the light! cheers mate!
