Noway.

I can't fix the aggregate device problem.

Tmongkol, any idea on how could I solve my trouble?

If I test the single channel, it make the noise.

But, if i select aggregate device as default audio device, it dosen't

I can't understand if the problem is related to the kexts or to the settings.

Do you this is better to place ALC885_889a.kext in /S/L/E ?? EDIT: tryed and the situation is the same

Going to ask for help in 5.1 how-to tread too

Thanks

@tmongkol using the vanilla kext from 10.6.8 v1.1 and patching it with this method has completely removed the lag / delay in audio being enabled after booting into Lion (It also happened with 10.6.8 v1).

I am about to test Plex to see if it also fixes the loss of audio...

Mate, what audio card are talking about? ALC888 or ALC889A for this thread?

What patch changes did you do to the main AppleHDA binary? From 8508EC10 to what?

Please can you give more details? Was it something like:

sudo perl -pi -e 's|\x85\x08\xEC\x10|\x89\x08\xEC\x10|g' /System/Library/Extensions/AppleHDA.kext/Contents/MacOS/AppleHDA

I also have this lag or delay in card detection and I am interested to fix my ALC889a in my Gigabyte P55M-UD4!

And a request to everyone here: please post more information on what you do, this will be helpful to many and save others from requesting and typing and flooding the thread! :)

Did you install 10.7 over 10.6.7 or lower? I think your "Audio MIDI Setup" is old.

This is from 10.6.8 (it's versions 3.0.3).

Sorry, should have said...it is the 889A.

I simply used the files & method from the link on the first post.

http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...st&id=92282

I didn't "patch" the AppleHDA.kext at all, just added the two xml files and put the ALC885_889a.kext in E/E

Oh...it also fixed Plex!

@Tmong, i forgotten to edit the post...

It's a fresh install on a blank disk. ihave 10.5 OS on another hd.

I made the screen while testing with the old audio midi setup.app from Leopard disk (I got 1 hd with leopard, 1 with xp and 1 with Lion). In that screen i was testing the audio midi setup.app from leopard's disk.

But i did all tests with Lion's audio midi setup first

Cheers

Thanks for reply.

Try to remove /Library/Preferences/Audio/com.apple.audio.DeviceSettings.plist and com.apple.audio.SystemSettings.plist and restart the system and then try to set & test aggregate device and multiple device.

Thank you for all the support you gave me during this yrs. It's a pleasure to reply.

I'm having some troubles with my cpu, it's overheating, and i need to change the fan.

I wish to solve it tomorrow.

As I'll be able to start the pc, i'll give a try and will report back to you.

For the moment... thanks again!

Dan

EDIT:

Hi again.

I deleted the files from /Library/Preferences/Audio/ and then, when i start the reboot process, com.apple.audio.DeviceSettings.plist spawns immediatly.

com.apple.audio.SystemSettings.plist spawned just after reboot.

Nothing changed.

After the boot, i made the aggregate device and the combined device.

I tested them once a time but noway.

In aggregate device (first choice when i create a new device) i can set 5.1 and he used immediatly the same channels i assigned before files deletion (is there a way of cache i got to delete too?)

But when i strike volume keyb's keys: grey volume sign and no sound.

If i use combined device, i can't select 5.1 on multiple channel

P.s. i solved my cpu problem with just a bit of new termal paste :( pheeew

Digital output, aggregate device, and multiple output device (only available in Lion) have no Output volume control.

Did you try to play iTunes or any player when you select aggregate device or multiple device? Multiple device has only stereo. VLC player is good for using aggregate device, 5.1.

Hi,

I am posting on this thread because I have tried so many methods but I still don't get any sound on Lion running on a EP35-DS3R (bios F4).

I am using a custom DSDT.aml obtained with DSDT Auto-Patcher on windows and here is the interesting part :

org.chameleon.Boot.plist:

...

checked the permissions and clear the cache but still no sound after a reboot. If you have any idea because I am running out of idea ...

Dont know if it helps but I also ave some weird behavior, for instance when I open a terminal I cannot get completion to work for some time, everything seems to be stuck but if I wait some time everything goes back to normal. Same thing with browser for instance while I am typing this message if I try to move the vertical scroller of this page I cannot however the UI is not really frozen because I can move the browser's window .

But my biggest problem for now is sound.

When I look at logs I cannot see anything relevant in kernel.log however I can see a crash in

I have a GA-Z68X-UD5-B3 mobo that I am having troubles getting the sound and ethernet working on. I will go with the sound for now on this board. I am running 10.7 Lion and did #####. I downloaded the ALC889A Kext file from this forum for Lion but in my System/Library/Extensions there is nothing there not even the AppleHDA.kext so something is not right. @Krutoy

For ethernet, you can get from www.realtek.com and see Others. Using Google Chrome for downloading from this website if you're using OS X or you may use Windows for downloading the file.

For example, You can get AppleHDA.kext from /Volumes/Mac OS X Base System/System/Library/Extensions/ and copy it to Desktop. Using Kext Wizard for installation and maintenance after that restarting the system. Then, you download ALC889_for_Gigabyte_67-68-chipset.zip and follow how to in Readme First.txt.

Thank you. That resolved Ethernet.

Audio is still not working. But I do not have a AppleHDA.kext file in /Volumes/HDD/System/Library/Extensions/ so I can't do the Wizard. When I boot my speakers start to "hiss" like white noise, my volume up and down works but no sound. I think I have to my kext files on my computer from variety of ##### attempts even VoodooHDA in pref pane. Is there a way to clean all this up and start fresh, and how would i get AppleHDA.kext if I do not have it now?

Thanks

Edit: I was able to get a new AppleHDA.kext in S/L/E , I then deleted all traces of other audio kext files and voodooHDA prefpan. Rebooted. Ran Wizard on AppleHDA to S/L/E and did everything in the read me for the 889 kext. Rebooted and sounds clicks upon boot but no volume or audio. *Shrug*

Not in kernel.org but in another system log. See updated post.

@ smartmobili

I think you should try to install AppleHDA.kext from original source and patch it again. If it's still not working, you should reinstall Lion.

Sorry, I have no idea to solve your problem.

Yes I deleted VoodooHDA.kext and pref, including lots of off model kexts for 893, 898, pretty much anything involved with audio. Did wizard maintenance on S/L/E and Extra. Did many fixes as described with nothing working. The only audio output of any kind was some hissing white noise out of speakers. How did you update the BIOS to F7 without windows to run the .exe? I have found why it didn't work,

I have extracted pinconfiguration from windows (I wrote a small .net application to do it) and here is what I have :

" PinConfigurations",

Buffer (0x30)

{

/* 0000 */ 0x10, 0x44, 0x01, 0x01, 0x12, 0x14, 0x01, 0x01,

/* 0008 */ 0x11, 0x64, 0x01, 0x01, 0x14, 0x24, 0x01, 0x01,

/* 0010 */ 0x40, 0x9C, 0xA1, 0x01, 0x50, 0x9C, 0xA1, 0x02,

/* 0018 */ 0x4F, 0x34, 0x81, 0x01, 0x20, 0x4C, 0x21, 0x02,

/* 0020 */ 0xF0, 0x01, 0x33, 0x59, 0x01, 0xE6, 0x05, 0x40,

/* 0028 */ 0x30, 0x61, 0x4B, 0x01, 0x60, 0x71, 0xCB, 0x01

}

This configuration seems different to the ones used by DSDT Auto Patcher so I have modifed template

and I have regenerated a new DSDT.aml with this configuration.

Now while I am writing this post I and I am listening some music so I will try to contact alessandro (author of DSDT Auto Patcher) and see if we cannot improve his tool.

Could you take a look at what I sent?

I thank you sincerely.

@ tora

Please read this thread for editing sense id of HDMI to match your graphic card.

I think you DSDT is OK after I looked at your IOReg. Sorry, I could not help you as much as I can since I don't have HD 4xxx graphic card.

What is the best AppleHDA to use in Lion?

My HDMI audio shows up in Systemprofiler but not in Systempreferences > Audio. I see also HDAU / HDEF in my IOREG, so I think the DSDT patch is good!

Did you connect HDMI cable between a graphic card and TV (or receiver)? It will show up in Sound preferences if you connect HDMI cable.

I have found why it didn't work,

I have extracted pinconfiguration from windows (I wrote a small .net application to do it) and here is what I have :

" PinConfigurations",

Buffer (0x30)

{

/* 0000 */ 0x10, 0x44, 0x01, 0x01, 0x12, 0x14, 0x01, 0x01,

/* 0008 */ 0x11, 0x64, 0x01, 0x01, 0x14, 0x24, 0x01, 0x01,

/* 0010 */ 0x40, 0x9C, 0xA1, 0x01, 0x50, 0x9C, 0xA1, 0x02,

/* 0018 */ 0x4F, 0x34, 0x81, 0x01, 0x20, 0x4C, 0x21, 0x02,

/* 0020 */ 0xF0, 0x01, 0x33, 0x59, 0x01, 0xE6, 0x05, 0x40,

/* 0028 */ 0x30, 0x61, 0x4B, 0x01, 0x60, 0x71, 0xCB, 0x01

}

Now, you can listen to music, can't you. I think "PinConfigurations" in DSDT is useless but the OS will obtain PinConfigurations from info.plist of AppleHDAHardwareConfigDriver. Also. these pins will be related to pathmap in Platforms.xml.

This's my HDEF in DSDT.

           Device (HDEF)

                   })
               }

                           },

                           "PinConfigurations",

Yes I have an HDMI cable connected between my GT220 and my Sony TV. It shows up in Systemprofiler > Displays as Television = yes and I can choose 720p and 1080p video output.

I'm now using an patched AppleHDA for the ALC889, maybe is that the problem? The version is 2.1.1 (GM).

Can I see the HDMI device ID in OS X? Or do I need to install Windows :x? Maybe has my Gainward GT220 not an standard GT220 HDMI device id?

Thanks for your help :).

Sorry, i didn't look at your ioreg carefully that you already connected HDMI to TV.

I will test my Gigabyte GT220 and report you in an hour.

No problem :). Thank you!

Maybe a little fault in my DSDT edit? I didn't know what to do with PEG0 (PEGP, but for Sandy Bridge Gigabyte mobo).. I have renamed it to PEGP, maybe that isn't good?

I'm now trying it with the AppleHDA kext from 10.6.3, that is the best for HDMI audio say some people. I will post my reports :D.

Edit:

With AppleHDA_v1.7.9 it doesn't work. It doesn't show up in Systemprofiler and I haven't any audio device in Systempreferences. My ALC889 ports are away to, but thats because I don't use an LegacyHDA / other kext. Only DSDT and patched AppleHDA normally.

Maybe my HDMI device id is other then the HDMI device id in the AppleHDA? Can I see it in OS X?
