VCH888
I'm confused reading that... I'm right now on 10.6.2 I have not done anything for my audio(ofcourse it isn't working or detected lol)... and I'm currently downloading the apple update for 10.6.4 to install it soon... so what do i need to do once I'm on 10.6.4 to get the audio working? By the way, I have no dst here on my machine for my install My board is: Gigabyte MA790XT-UD4P Audio: ALC889A Any help would be greatly appreciated I am so sorry. I could not help anyone that is using AMD mother board. Please use VoodooHDA.kext.
sendblink23
I am so sorry. I could not help anyone that is using AMD mother board. Please use VoodooHDA.kext. Well I'm at 10.6.4 already everything works perfectly, the same as 10.6.2... ofcourse minus the onboard sound in/out hmm okay... You left me speechless, I didn't imagine the same audio on this thread had anything to do with having Intel or Amd I already tested VoodooHDA since you suggested it, and the sound is all messed up just like "pop corn"... I've uninstalled it... I've honestly never liked voodoohda on Snow.. I only liked it on leopard(10.5.X).. so I'm not going to ask for help on their forum since they never reply... hehehee i don't want to hassle with it Anyways.... I used for my other build "the one in my signature" AzaliaAudio.pkg (which still works fine, its also at 10.6.4), do you think that works for our Audio "ALC889A" as in for at least only "out" onboard sound and not mic? If it doesn't work, do you have any idea what files I must erase for uninstalling that package.. just incase this is the package file: http://www.mediafire.com/?1u2wnfmmdnj This right now is the set up I'm working with, but still with same CPU: Gigabyte MA790XT-UD4P AMD Phenom ii x4 965 SLI EVGA 9800GTX+ 512mb 4gb DDR3-1600 500gb 7200rpm sata Snow Leopard 10.6.4 sorry for the bother again

sendblink23
@sendblink23 Did you try AzaliaAudio on MA790XY-UD4P? I think it should be working for your mobo. A few minutes ago I decided to try another voodoohda, in which seemed to work, but audio was way too low & only my front headphone input was the only thing that worked... not even with Voodoo preferences panel helped at all.... But Thanks to you.... I randomly decided to check here and saw you replied asking if I tested the AzaliaAudio.pkg... well I removed voodoohda + the voodoo preferences panel, then installed the Azalia package / rebooted...wallah audio works pefectly - ofcourse just rear input, but I'm happy with that Thanks --- I would suggest even if this thread has Intel in the title... well if any other random AMD user *just like me* comments here again asking for help... you should put up the package of it here.. for the user who at least wants rear output audio. FKA
This is DIY and not for ATI graphic card users. You may be able to get audio via HDMI cable from your computer to LCD TV. What do you need? - DIY. - OS X 10.6.3 ? (I tested on this one.) Important! You must get AppleHDA working for your sound card and have Digital Output. - Nvidia graphic cards that have a "native HDMI" port (or may be some working graphic cards via DVI-HDMI adaptor). - An audio cable connecting between SPDIF input on Nvidia graphic card and SPDIF output on mainboard, see your manuals and test it on Windows OS. - AppleHDA.kext 1.8.4fc3 (10.6.3), never test older ones. - Absolutely an HDMI cable. - Digital Out will be chosen in Sound Preferences. - You need to set GFX string with DVI/DVI (NVCAP) or use DSDT for graphic enabler. "NVCAP", Buffer (0x18) { /* 0000 */ 0x04, 0x00, 0x00, 0x00, 0x00, 0x00, 0x03, 0x00, /* 0008 */ 0x0C, 0x00, 0x00, 0x00, 0x00, 0x00, 0x00, 0x07, /* 0010 */ 0x00, 0x00, 0x00, 0x00 }, Alphonse tested on 9400GT and I tested on 9500GT. Alphone and I have the same LCD TV, Samsung B650 series so I have no idea this will or will not work on other LCD TVs. He told me that he got audio via an HDMI cable. So, I borrowed 9500GT that has a native HDMI port from my brother for testing and then I got it working. But, I got something weird about Sound Preferences after I selected Digital Out. I have read some people are using GTX260 or higher can work on OS X 10.6.3 via DVI-HDMI adaptor so they might be able to get sound via HDMI by selecting Digital Output. Good luck. Edited on June 20, 2010 Hi tmongkol Can I just point out - If you are using a DVI to HDMI converter it must be a DVI-I to HDMI converter (25pin) Any other converter will NOT carry the audio signal to the HDMI side !! VCH888
HDMI audio works fine in Windows. It's a Zotac 9300 ITX. I assume that AppleHDA is working on your sound card. How do you enable AppleHDA, using DSDT w/ fixed HDEF or HDAEnabler? If you're using HDAEnabler instead of DSDT w/ fixed HDEF, did you get "Sound assertion ""ERROR: EFI ROM did not publish 'hda-gfx' associative property!\n"" failed in "/SourceCache/AppleHDA/AppleHDA-187.4.1/AppleHDA/AppleHDACodecGeneric.cpp" at line 345 goto ExitError" in kernel.log? emt
Hi tmongkol, Im also trying to enable HDMI audio on my zotac itx board with an onboard 9300 gpu. AppleHDA is working fine with the AppleHDA version (AppleHDA_1.8.7f1_ALC662_LayoutID_662.zip) obtained in the first post, i am using DSDT w/ fixed HDEF. I had the 'hda-gfx' sound assertion but dissapeared after i added in the "hda-gfx" "onboard-1" part from your post into my DSDT. My HDMI audio device-id 10 DE 00 07 which i found using windows as per your instructions exists in the appleHDA binary as 07 00 DE 10 so i did not patch it. After adding the "hda-gfx" into the DSDT and checking the appleHDA binary i still do not see the option "Built-in HDMI Output" under the Audio MIDI Setup menu as shown in your post. My graphics output is connected via HDMI cable to a monitor w/ built in speakers which has audio via HDMI in windows7, my pc is dual booting windows7 and snow leopard 10.6.4. Any ideas to what i am missing out? Thanks.
FKA
i see.i think the whole thing everyone wants on this on-board card is 5.1 and front & back headphones and speakers to work do i count as one of "everyone" - cos' I dont use 5.1 ! 5.1 isn't supported (unless I've missed something!) - there is a link in the 1st post for a workaround to get 5.1 working using aggregate devices. Have you read it? D

toleda
Edited on June 20, 2010 ***AppleHDA.kext v1.7.9a4 (10.6.2) was tested on Gigabyte GT220 and Galaxy GT240, OS X 10.6.3, and HDMI audio's working and having Encoded Digital Audio (see Audio Miidi Setup). AppleHDA.kext v1.8.4fc3 doesn't have Encoded Digital Audio for HDMI audio. (11 May 2010) This is how I made HDMI audio working for my Nvidia GT240. After I tried to find out how I can get HDMI audio for my Galaxy GT240, finally I just did two things, editing my DSDT and patching AppleHDA bin. I can say that if you have a graphic card such as GT220 or GT240 and AppleHDA.kext could not work on your sound on board, you should be able to get HDMI audio working. However, you might got some sound assertions. It's not bad, isn't it. It could be good if you can use AppleHDA.kext for your sound card on board and HDMI audio. You can see some of my testing logs, it's in zip file. tmongkol, Success with my GT 240 HDMI Audio thanks to your guide. My audio started working with experiment #2 in your test log. Added HDAU to my DSDT and edited the vanilla AppleHDA binary with the GT 240 audio device ID in SL 10.6.3. Discovered it was working by accident. Recently installed 10.6.4, modified the new AppleHDA binary as before and, magically, it is still working. I'm using the Legacy889aHDA kext. Also, I have a Sony ES receiver in line with the Sony XBR TV which shows 8 channels in Audio MIDI.

I am not familiar with nVidia dsdt but I will help you as much as I can. @tmongkol i have tested your attachment (AppleHDA_1.8.7f1_ALC662_LayoutID_662_NVchip.zip) no change still no sound on HDMI. i managed to save my ioreg(attachment : emt_10.6.4_ioreg) from IORegistryExplorer and had a quick look comparing it to the ones you sent me. it seems i am missing a HDAU section, i am not sure how to solve it, thats as far as my understading goes, haha. im stumped at the moment the lspci -nn command gave me the below result(attachment : emt_lspci_nn) 00:00.0 Host bridge [0600]: nVidia Corporation MCP79 Host Bridge [10de:0a80] (rev b1) 00:00.1 RAM memory [0500]: nVidia Corporation MCP79 Memory Controller [10de:0a88] (rev b1) 00:03.0 ISA bridge [0601]: nVidia Corporation MCP79 LPC Bridge [10de:0aac] (rev b2) 00:03.1 RAM memory [0500]: nVidia Corporation MCP79 Memory Controller [10de:0aa4] (rev b1) 00:03.2 SMBus [0c05]: nVidia Corporation MCP79 SMBus [10de:0aa2] (rev b1) 00:03.3 RAM memory [0500]: nVidia Corporation MCP79 Memory Controller [10de:0a89] (rev b1) 00:03.4 RAM memory [0500]: nVidia Corporation Unknown device [10de:0a98] (rev b1) 00:03.5 Co-processor [0b40]: nVidia Corporation MCP79 Co-processor [10de:0aa3] (rev b1) 00:04.0 USB Controller [0c03]: nVidia Corporation MCP79 OHCI USB 1.1 Controller [10de:0aa5] (rev b1) 00:04.1 USB Controller [0c03]: nVidia Corporation MCP79 EHCI USB 2.0 Controller [10de:0aa6] (rev b1) 00:06.0 USB Controller [0c03]: nVidia Corporation MCP79 OHCI USB 1.1 Controller [10de:0aa7] (rev b1) 00:06.1 USB Controller [0c03]: nVidia Corporation MCP79 EHCI USB 2.0 Controller [10de:0aa9] (rev b1) 00:08.0 Audio device [0403]: nVidia Corporation MCP79 High Definition Audio [10de:0ac0] (rev b1) 00:09.0 PCI bridge [0604]: nVidia Corporation MCP79 PCI Bridge [10de:0aab] (rev b1) 00:0a.0 Ethernet controller [0200]: nVidia Corporation MCP79 Ethernet [10de:0ab0] (rev b1) 00:0b.0 SATA controller [0106]: nVidia Corporation MCP79 AHCI Controller [10de:0ab8] (rev b1) 00:0c.0 PCI bridge [0604]: nVidia Corporation MCP79 PCI Express Bridge [10de:0ac4] (rev b1) 00:10.0 PCI bridge [0604]: nVidia Corporation MCP79 PCI Express Bridge [10de:0aa0] (rev b1) 00:15.0 PCI bridge [0604]: nVidia Corporation MCP79 PCI Express Bridge [10de:0ac6] (rev b1) 00:16.0 PCI bridge [0604]: nVidia Corporation MCP79 PCI Express Bridge [10de:0ac7] (rev b1) 00:17.0 PCI bridge [0604]: nVidia Corporation MCP79 PCI Express Bridge [10de:0ac7] (rev b1) 00:18.0 PCI bridge [0604]: nVidia Corporation MCP79 PCI Express Bridge [10de:0ac7] (rev b1) 03:00.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: nVidia Corporation C79 [GeForce 9300 / nForce 730i] [10de:086c] (rev b1) hope i didn't miss out anything. thanks. emt_ioreg_lspci.zip @lifterus my setup based on info from this topic ([GUIDE]+[sTUDIO] ZOTAC GEForce 9300 WIFI) which i believe you are familiar with as well, if you refered to that topic then your setup and mine should be quite similar. hopefully we can get HDMI audio working with tmongkol's help. VCH888
@ emt Could you test the new one? I added items of HDMI in infi.plist of AppleHDAPlatformDriver. AppleHDA_1.8.7f1_ALC662_LayoutID_662_HDMI_Zotac_mini.zip Thanks.
balderdashian
You can take a look emt's DSDT how to add "hda-gfx" into dsdt but you cannot use it on your system. emt's DSDT has specific cpu info. I am not familiar with nVidia dsdt but I will help you as much as I can. Thanks, that's incredibly kind of you! I actually did open his dsdt. In mine, my audio section it has this: "device-type", Buffer (0x0F) { "Realtek ALC662" }, "PinConfigurations", Buffer (Zero) {} }, Local0) emt's same section has this: "device-type", Buffer (0x12) { "Realtek ALC662" }, "PinConfigurations", Buffer (One) { 0x00 }, "hda-gfx", Buffer (0x0A) { "onboard-1" } }, Local0) Anyways, I copied his into mine, but when I try to compile it, I get this error: "Error 4047 - Initializer list longer than declared package length" I'm guessing something at the top is stating how long the DSDT is supposed to be and by me adding to it, it doesn't like that. @ emt, I see there's discrepancies in hardware IDs between ours. I have the original rev. 1 of the board, you probably have a newer one. But I'm assuming that the "hda-gfx" part is the one I need to add. And yes, I am following the [GUIDE]+[sT...." thread as well. Getting HDMI working would be fantastic. I actually run everything in my home (TIVO, game consoles, media center, etc.) through a Monoprice HDMI matrix switch. So unlike most users with this board, I actually have real need for HDMI audio. Hope we get it working!
