System Brief:

OSX 10.5.5

iDeneb 1.3 .iso

AMD Semperon CPU

Asus K8N-E motherboard

nVidia nForce 3 250 Gb

Realtek ALC 850 6-channel AC97 on-board audio (I believe the deviceid is 0xea00de10)

I've tried three different kext files, including modifying the .kext off the DVD, and no matter what I do, I cannot seem to get the audio to work. Anyone have any tips?

The only guide I could find for modifying the kext seemed to be intended for Intel CPU's (the .kext has three folders, AMD, Intel and Via), and I'm not really sure what I should be doing when I modify the info.plist file.

Getting any ACL to work can be a pain in the butt. Took me two weeks to get it to work on my machine.

Search Google for OSx86tools. Open it, and click on the "View PCI Device/Vendor ID's". It will ask you to install a utility, let it. Restart, open up OSx86tools again, and click on the same button.

Post the results in this thread and I will guide you to how to make it work.

Looks like I had the device / vendor id's switched. I'll retry my previous 'custom' driver with the new id's and report back.

no dice...

Here's the guide I used: http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.php/Audio

Here's the error I get with kextload -t:

extension AppleAC97Audio.kext/ has potential problems:

Warnings

{

"Kext has no explicit kernel dependency" = true

}

kextload: extension AppleAC97Audio.kext/ appears to be loadable

kextload: AppleAC97Audio.kext/ loaded successfully

Success!!!

Wow, after almost 2 days of searching, I was able to get it working by using the "AC97" driver on the iDeneb DVD, NOT the "ALC850" driver. I had to modify the driver using the instructions in the WIKI link (still modify the "Intel" version, even if using an AMD CPU).

I'd post my modified .kext here for everyone to use, but I'm not sure on the policy for that... is that 'kosher'?

Attached is the .kext I was using.

To install:

1) Extract the attached .zip file

2) Delete any other AC97 audio kexts you were playing with from the /System/Library/Extensions directory

3) Enter the following terminal commands:

sudo cp AppleAC97Audio.kext /System/Library/Extensions

sudo chmod -R 755 /System/Library/Extensions/AppleAC97Audio.kext

sudo chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions/AppleAC97Audio.kext

sudo rm -R /System/Library/Extensions.mkext

sudo reboot

AppleAC97Audio.kext.zip

q64, any help you could give would be greatly appreciated.

currently having drama installing audio on GA-EX5-DS4 motherboard - it is spec'd with ALC888 audio, I've tried everything from codec dumps and all the other kexts available for this device with no joy.

osx86tools produced this output for audio:

00:1b.0 Audio device [0403]: Intel Corporation 82801JI (ICH10 Family) HD Audio Controller [8086:3a3e]

  • 1 year later...

I have a working kext I got from an old Tiger Install Disc i have, But it has a bug where every now and then it switches to "6ch-16bit" on the output channel and stops working ? every now and then when the sound goes off i have to open Audio MIDI Setup and change it back to "2ch-16bit" then audio comes back on again. I'm Using OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.5 on An AMD Sempron (1Core) With an ASUS K8N nForce 3 Mobo, Realtek ALC850 AC97 Audio. I use the MAC Mainly for Music Production and have apps like Guitar Rig 4,Logic 9 etc.. Also when using Guitar Rig 4 this problem causes it to close unexpectedly and is very temperemental as to when this happens. This kext was working fine when i was using OS X Tiger 10.4.8 but after the upgrade to Snow Leopard I had no sound so i transfered the kext to 10.6 thats when the problem started. I've been looking for a way to remove the "6ch-16bit" and "4ch-16bit" settings from the kext so that the system has no choice but to use the "2ch-16bit" setting because it's the only one available, but i still hav'nt fixed this problem and i tread on eggshells when Playing my guitar or using Logic Pro 9, paranoid that the audio is gonna {censored} out on me any minute (What a way to live) hopefully with a bit of luck your kext will work for me and happy days are hear again :( Thank You for the kext and fingers crossed it will work for me. (I hope it's not the one i already have :)

Nope I Installed the Kext and refreshed permissions but the same problems still exists ?? Thanks anyway but i'm still on the lookout for a better one.
