bongfury
Rhalls, I just wondered if you have might have any benchmark results stored prior to enabling raid, I have a fairly similar config to yourself although instead of the gigabyte mobo I'm using an Abit IP35 and have 4x1gb Corsair Dominator 800mhz, AAKS Drives/CPU are same.. I ask as I'm a little worried about my HDD speeds, seem a bit low (similar to the majesteetti post above yours if memory serves me correctly. Would like to compare (I'm not using raid for various reasons).. really would appreciate it if you could, thanks.. (I haven't yet posted my Xbench results as I'm at work), I've noticed some figures from those who are using maxtor's (!?!? seems to defy usual logic.. mind you they haven't specified if raid or zfs format ), wish everyone would post their HW components and any unusual config with their results, doesn't really mean much otherwise. rhalls
It seems that Western Digital AAKS Drives are fast. I use two of them as raid.HD results are VERY diferent with different HDs, fastest in my experience are the AAKS´s.With my different setups, i get hardware XBench results down to 52 with a Hitachi 250 GB S-ATA HD or 43 with a Samsung Spinpoint 250 GB S-ATA HD.So get two 250 GB AAKS, set them up as Raid and enjoy the speed:-) ... Oh, just reread your post, you have the aaks, too....If i remember correctly, the AAKS solo was about 100 (disk score). So maybe its your board or the installation of OSX ? Im nearly vanilla (native) here.

PoloBear
I had some problems with the softraid, Kernelpanics twice a day, so I dumped it. I used the disks to create a large pool ZFS, Xbench looks great, diskbench on one disk is 422 points, filecopy and openfile feels faster but as long as you cant boot from the pool I dont know if it is faster. At least it works and no more Panics for me.... waiting for 10.5.2 ......
