S Corbishley
Hey everyone, a friend of mine complained today that he has removed his OSX86 install of Leopard off his machine, claiming it damaged his gfx card, an 8800GTS, running with the NVInject drivers, apparently the NVInject drivers don't do auto fan control... Anyone care to comment and/or share experiences? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/137528-damage-to-gfx-cards/ Share on other sites

AlpineRaven
I do believe something like this would happen - I think I toasted the northbridge & memory sticks but lucky the CPU is okay. The Northbridge & RAM was very hot and you barely could touch it. MaaseyRacer
Here is a good article on EFI Strings and EFI Studio, which are the best ways to get your card going if your card will allow it. http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=89001 (Please note that this is a guide for the 8800GT) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/137528-damage-to-gfx-cards/#findComment-973852 Share on other sites

S Corbishley
the trouble is that the fan controll does not work so it works @ max speed , and dat the card is running @100% all the time.thats the trouble with nvida if the fan was running at full speed the whole time, i dont see how it could overheat... i saw the card this weekend... it was idling at 80C... i think the problem is that the fan was running at low rpm the whole time and got damaged over time...
