Hello boys and of course girls,

if someone didn't notice yet, netkas announced PCEFI V9 today:

http://netkas.org/?p=74

his is new bootloader with few nice features, it's n0w based on Chameleon codebase.

so, it supports all what Chameleon supports ( including /Extra)

and it has few new patches applied:

1) dsdt overwrite patch from mackerintel

2) resume from hibernate(aka deep sleep) support from me

(-nowake boot option to bypass resume, if u dont want it on current boot)

3) 64-bit kernel loading support from me ( -x64 boot option to tell it to boot 64-bit kernel (only snow leo kernel has 64-bit part)

4) it supports new Extension.mkext location as in new snow leo

Now few words about hibernate, to activate it u can use e.g. this widget - deepsleep.free.fr

Bootloader will check /var/vm/sleepimage, and if it has proper signature, it will try to resume system

Now about problems, some systems fails to go to deepsleep state(e.g. gigabyte, asus), it's caused by RTC bug in dsdt

to fix it, use fassl's dsdt patcher, it will create proper DSDT.aml in root of your partition.

Find it here - http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=133683

Also on radeon hd cards, after waking up, you will have only 1/4 of screen visible.

...

You also can use this bootloader with chameleon's boot0/boot1h just fine.

as for source patch - as soon as I will clean it.

Another nice release, thanks for your work netkas :dev:

At this moment i use Chameleon - cos this one has a nice installer wich allows me to update while running an system without modifying anything. Last time i installed PCEFI (V8) trough OSX86Tool it crashed my system. ;)

sorry for my ignorance. if I have dual boot with vista, what is the best way of installing this? my osx 10.5.5 is running with efi v5 on a separate partition. do I just replace my tboot or boot0 on my boot partition?

thanks

Hi, if somebody have problems with CMOS damage after wakeup, ie. Gigabyte Mobos, try

to remove AppleEFIRuntime.kext it worked in my case.

Thanks a lot for the heads up ontoid. If you google up "Disabler.kext" you can use that to disable intelcpupowermanagement and efiruntime together. I was using IntelCPUPMDisabler.kext which one disables the CPUPM kext alone.

Working great on my end! :)

Wow. Now i have Deep Sleep on an MSI WIND! Thanks, netkas.

Did anybody notice that if you use /extra/extensions it does not load "plist-only" kexts?

HI, in my case it loads plist only Kexts, in /Extra/Extensions, I installed boot file(PCIEFIv9) with Chameleon for HD installer, replacing the boot file in the chameleon Installer package.

Everyting seems to be ok.

DSDT.aml Loaded ok

there is an intersting article here about sleep/hibernate modes in real macs

mine was in mode0 , i set it to mode3 but i see no difference

both works... should i notice something?

edit: i forgot the link :censored2:

http://www.macworld.com/article/53471/2006/10/sleepmode.html

You wouldn't see any difference between 0 and 3 unless there is a power failure. 0 suspends to ram, 3 suspends to ram AND disk, if power fails it boots from sleepimage.

11/17/08 3:18:32 PM kernel AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement: initialization complete

DSDT loaded

now some questions..

i blv that i have deepsleep (hibernate mac mode)

for example i tried this widget :http://deepsleep.free.fr/

and it sleeps normal (10 seconds the fans are on and then everything is quite)

when it wakes up should i see any progress bar ? (like system is restarting .. ..)

cause i see nothing, the hd loads and after 10-15 seconds i am able to continue osx as it was before

important:

at pcefi9 boot i can see :

Sleepimage has garbage

hibernate failed

garbage??? :D

so what do i do now?

and finally... wtf should i care about deepsleep in a desktop pc?

Yep me ;)

As i see in profiler there are 2 kinds of USB ports

Some controlled by AppleUSBEHCI and others by AppleUSBUHCI

Only ports controlled by AppleUSBUHCI doesnt wake up.

Those ports are staying unpowered, mayby it could be fixed via dsdt patcher?

It is important ? What is the principal function of this ?

I did the upgrade to PC EFI V9 (before have Chameleon 1.0.11 now says 1.0.12) after copy the original AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext to /System/Library/Extensions ... reboot and this load fine, but i not see any difference.
