I get to have the pleasure of building my friend a kick a$$ OSx86 box for his birthday(his parents are supplying the money). Now he wants to be able to game in windows but run OS 10 most of the time. The best way to do I have gathered would be to get a motherboard with intel graphics and put a Nvidia card in there and just switch the monitor cable to intel when in osx and to nvidia whenever he wants to boot windows. My only concern is if the OSx will recognise the SATA and boot from it. I will be running 10.4.5

The motherboard I am thinking of getting is the D945GNTL i checked the wiki and it is reported fully working except for the sound which can be fixed by editing kext.

For a processor i chose the Pentium D 920 Dual core- will the performance take that much of a hit during gaming with the game trying to thread it though 2 processors- i have heard that dual core chips are not good for gaming

My graphics card will be a eVGA Geforce 7600GT 256MB card - kinda on a budget

Hard drive- Western Digital WD3200KS 320GB SATA 3.0 drive with a 16MB cache

DVD Burner- ND-3550A - Hopefully it works the 3550 is reported to but i dont know about the a

Now for a wireless cards was a little tougher to chose i want to go with the D-Link DWL-G520 just because i have had good luck with Dlink cards in the past.

My PS if it is an interest to anyone is an Antec True Power 2.0 550W

Now my question to you is- any suggestions/comments and could you please tell me if you have any of these components give me what issues you experienced? Thanx a ton - Mechmess

You wont even have a performance hit. If the game isn't designed to run on multiple threads it won't "try to thread" it.

ive had very good luck with plextor dvd burners. i have a PX-712SA running on sata and its blazing fast right outta the box. fully compatible with mac no kexts to add or modify or patchburn to do. they run from 75 to 100 bucks.

also the new PX-716S and SA also burns at 16x and DL capable.
