Just ordered a new system and then decided I wanted to try out osx after a previous laptop install a year ago....

started looking into info and found this thread ...

I ordered the Asus P6T6 WS Revolution

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16813131358

I have not got the mb yet and was wondering if anyone has tried or heard any success stories?

Or should I buy the Gigabyte board and just not open/install the P6T6 if i want a good time with osx

(or will things change with snowleopard perhaps?... also already got the 4870 ordered before I looked into anything hackintosh osx86... havent played with for a year and then I didnt have a good enough laptop to have any real fun...)

Foxconn is shady, I would pass. I heard many over the years tell bad stories of foxconn being incompatible with osx. Besides, they are straight up Chinese, slave labor and proud.

Yeah I was thinking about the same. I guess 'll grab an evga board and be done.

Thanks =)

I had a quick question.. maybe someone will be able to answer.

Has anyone tried to use Foxconn Reneissance board (x58, 4 x16)?

All that pci-express powa sure does look appealing to me (I do CUDA programming). So I kind-of wanted to know, before I shell out 350$ on a motherboard that might not work

noooo foxconn!! lol, even though thats a very attractive looking board, i like the colors

@saxman314 I like your build, go for it! 500 watts is cutting it too close if your planning to overclock and keep that 9800GTX satisfied, that raidmax should do the trick. Go with the 1600MHz memory

I'm sure you can get that board up and running fine, check the p6t thread in the tutorials section, they look similar. That 4870 is gonna give you nightmares until snow leo's released. Isnt supported yet. *Edit* man did you really pay almost 400 for this board? You might as well have gotten the Rampage Formula II, it works great.

Too late! Ordered the 1066 already, along with the rest. I don't think I'll be disappointed, in any case. I'll have something to look forward to when I UPGRADE... let's hear it for not buying an IMAC!

Dont worry, the DDR3 will get cheap quick. You can upgrade to 1600 in 2-3 months and get a super deal.

Any help will be very much appreciated!

In the mean time, I'll be looking around myself; and trying different 'classical' methods.

Just saw mention of a new version too (10A261), but I'll try getting it running at all first ;)

[edit] Just found a small amount of posts about PC_EFI working with 190, and not with 222...

I'll have to figure out one or two things, but at least I now know it's indeed possible :)

Thank you!![/edit]

Hi Guys

Thanks for info. I just downloaded Snow 10a261.

I'm going to try soon.

Would it be possible following DD's guide?

Pre-patch/Snow install/Post-patch...

On DD's EFI retail install, I believe bootloader is PC_EFI v8. And if we have to changes some kexts, what should be those...? Any Idea?

i will do it probably at the end of this week. I will collect some more information.

Thanks guys

Greetings everyone, I been scouring through the forums for couple of days, and perhaps its just a nice coincidence that JaE-V rig happens to be exactly what I have intended to setup for a 8-Core SLI Hacktonish.

I am pretty familiar with BOOT132-Retail method of installing of Leo, but before i embark my journey in getting a Octo-Core Workstation, anything I would need to take note of when installing Leo on the EVGA X58? I checked the LAN, doesn't pose to be any problem, and i using a USB DAC as well for my audio as well, gotten a TRUE Black 120 to overclock my i920 to 4Ghz and P182SE to house everything in with good fans.

I definitely appreciate any advice or warnings regarding the installation, and many thanks in advance!

Must admit I didn't even know 261 was available, read about it, but hadn't found it yet... Must also admit I haven't managed to do the install yet either, mostly because of full agenda lately... :( Have you read anywhere for it to be compatible with an EFI install by any chance?

Alas, the topic seems to have been deleted :D Or do I encounter some weird error?

In any case, any news will be welcome... I haven't been running *any* OS X lately, because of failure to install this one on my main partition... *sniff* (yes, that and being too much of a noob to properly get multiple partitions working.. *shame*)

Its actually a really easy install. Just turn on your AHCI with the stock bios and you should be good to go. Grab the files posted on the front page here for your ICH10/Jmicron and stuff. What video card are you going with?

Thank you so much my friend~ I am going EXACTLY the same thing as you have. 2 X Evga 9800GTX+ in SLI. See the coincidence? I am quite a big fan of NV~ :(

Funny I am going with almost the same setup too. Except 9800GTX+ and 8800GTX (drive separate screens) and 12gb RAM.

Also, there's a new x58 evga board coming out soon (x58 classified), but apparently it has an integrated nf200 x16.. which might or might not be a problem.

I havent been able to get both cards working. I just generated strings for the first card in the first slot. I'm pretty sure you can only use two nvidia cards in crossfire boards, something about SLI messes it up. You can however leave the second card in with the bridge on for windows until we get some kind of os x sli support. Generating strings for both cards leads to panic

so far...I've tried a261 & a220, both didn't finish installing. I actually followed DD's guide. Pre-patch first on a new GUID HDD, then tried snow install, but at the end, for some reason, "Install Failed" message appeared.

I read a Korean Hackintosh guide, www.x86osx.com Some of them was successfully installed, not on i7/X58, but on P35 and P45. They used PCEFI v9, voodoo kernel, and replace appleRTC.kext, etc. They said the snow system is a bit buggy.

Any way, I wanted it badly to test my i7 system. But I guess I have to wait for other i7 system's success story.

Looking like my mobo is DOA. Hangs at debug code b2 before initializing graphics... very frustrating buying all this stuff and putting it together only to have the system fail to post. No signal to monitor, and it doesn't even beep. I'm waiting to hear back from Gigabyte's customer service, but I think I'm going to RMA this board tomorrow. I guess I'll ask my stupid questions about my incorrect OS installation in a few more days. Weak.

Me too! :o

I actually had a saga with Gigabyte boards, it was like starting with UD-5>Extreme>UD4>UD5 again...

I kept replacing it because of bios. I don't know why, whenever I set AHCI, the board hangs and wouldn't boot at all.

UD5 was better one, it was OK for a while, but if I change a certain menu, then it hangs again...

Now, I have an EVGA, it has really good multibooting menu and HDD boot priority, and works with DD's guide pefectly w/o only sound which wasn't big a deal.

Anyway, hope you get a luck with RMA.

What I've learned from the tweaktown gigabyte forum and from gigabyte's support page is that they released these boards with a broken BIOS. It was "incompatible" with the i7 920 and 965 chips... don't ask me what they thought people were gonna install for a CPU! The latest BIOS updates and especially the very latest beta BIOS are reported to fix a great deal of troubles for many people. I think that's what was wrong with my board. The thing is, since my system hung before posting, I couldn't do anything about it. I asked newegg to send me one that was a recent delivery from the manufacturer, and I hope the latest ones have shipped with the updated BIOS, but we'll see.

Hi All,

I posted on this topic a while ago about installing OS X on a Dell Studio XPS Core i7, but then blew out my powersupply and had to install a new one, then got swamped with work...

Anyway, here I am again ready to try.

Here's what I did so far:

I burned David Elliot's modified boot-132 bootloader to a cd and burned Mac OS X Leopard 10.5.4 9E25 Retail to a DL DVD.

I popped in the bootloader, waited for it to start, put the dvd in, hit ESC at the propmt and then enter (as instructed in the included guide).

So far no problem. Darwin starts loading and I get this on my screen:

Darwin/x86 boot v5.0.132_dfe_r146_Chameleon_pre

VESA v3.0 16MB (ATI ATOMBIOS)

Loading Darwin/x86

then I get the following error 4 times:

EBIOS read error : Controller or device error

Block 16432736 sectors 64

Then Darwin loads for another 15secs or so until I get:

Errors encountered while starting up the computer.

Then the machine reboots into Vista...

Any ideas?

thnx,

V
