JaE-V
Conglaturation and good news for me!Could you give us more detail of how you installed? Currently I'm using iATKOS 10.5.5 with 9.5.0 fassle kernel. But the system starts really slow. I was wondering you were able to install 10.5.6 with 9.6.0 kernel, it must be voodoo kernel, right? Then, how your system starts without without bootflag "busratio=20'...when you have time, let us know. I think the lan is RealTek 8111C, the sound is ATL889a for EVGA X58. The temp is really good. I have a stock cooler, my idle temp is 47-51, that I think really high. I'm waiting my Xigmatek cooler now. Thanks I installed using iatkos, i put my hdd in the red ports where the sata connectors are so i dont have to keep changing stuff when i want to reboot into windows, in sata/pata configuration i set only the sata controller i'm using to AHCI, left everything else to default IDE even the dvd drive. Disabled all cores except 1 and HT. When i set my other sata ports to ahci it made the start up stutter and lag running from the disk. I installed with mostly default settings and used the voodoo 9.5.0 kernel. Chose the realtek1000 driver and let it rip. Upon finishing of the installation i reenabled my cores, flagged busratio=20 -x -v completed the setup, installed the 9.6.0 kernel from the ex58ud5 attatchment on page 9 and all the kexts as well other than the video ones using osx86tools. I also wrote busratio=20 to my plist so i wouldnt have to keep typing it. And thats it also make sure after you install the new kernel, you change "custom" to mac_kernel" on the plist as well
googlesmith
Hey We're still working on the GA-EX58-DS4. GEEKBENCH = 8500 We managed to get the iAtkos 5i installed and working: Chameleon Bootloader Apple Decrypt SMBIOS Resolver Stock ACPI modified Disabler.kext jmicron ahci Intel Speedstep a (UPDATE) As for the ATI 3650....it doesn't work. Either it shows a repeating pattern of blocks, or it gives flickering green/blue lines/dots when the display is at high res (30") and when showing a lot of detail (hd video). So we've opted for the ATI 3870 instead. Works like a charm. Graphics update Natit 2xxx & 3xxx ATI Kext 3800 512mb As for sound...it doesn't work (or atleast we can't get it to work). We've tried the patches for the UD5 board and the HDApatcher with linux drivers, and we've tried standard azalia kext, and we've tried different bios settings. Nothing seems to work. So instead we're using a Creative x-mod usb card (works great). We had some problems with the network (it disappeared and wouldn't come back). Initially we though it was a kext problem (used 2 hours on that), then found out that all we had to do was switch of the computer and reset the bios cmos. That did the trick. And finally. Booting with the busratio=20 makes the internal clock appear fast (40 sec of video plays in 30 seconds). To fix this we downloaded the 9.5.0 voodoo kernel from the code.google.com/p/xnu-dev/ and used osx86 tools to install it. Now video plays perfectly (with the busratio=20 boot flag). Anyone know how to fix the audio? 10.5.6 is the next challenge (dunno if we'll bother though, seeing that everything [we care about] is working). Cheers. BTW. Has anyone else managed to get this board working?

But now I have something to tell. It's the strangest day of my hackintosh today. I had a 3 hdds with the hacked Leopard OS. One is installed with iATKOS 5i with 9.5.0 Fassel kernel, 2nd one was installed as EFI partition 10.5.6 by Wolfienuke and it was used with my GA EX58-UD5, and 3rd one was created just in case using Digital Dream's EFI/Retail installation updated 10.5.6. This afternoon, I was thinking EVGA x58 SLI board has the same feature like GA-EX58 series, the same LAN & Sound chip, so why now just hook up the other hdds. I tried 2nd one first, it didn't go well, it stopped showing "still waiting for..." and the 3rd one made as DD's guide started normally. Holy Miracle! It booted like it should and now working as charm. Here's things are different from when I used this 3rd HDD with GA EX58-UD5. 1. Memory shows as DDR 2 / 1066 mhz instead of DDR3 400mhz with Giga UD5 (My Mem is DDR3 1600) 2. CPU clock speed appears as 2.27 ghz. Giga board showed right clocks. 3. Model "iMac" 4. Sound is not working; Intel High Definition Audio appears under audio menu of System Profiler, but no available speakers in sound output menu of System Preference. 5. --I kinda hands off this computer for a while, and found screen freezing. Mouse cursor was moving freely but it didn't work at all. I had to restart. Now it seems OK.-- After using about 30 min., the system freezes. Mouse is moving with no problem, but can not activate anything with mouse click, I just restarted.. Maybe I need a advice on this... I'm going to test this system for a while and keep post if any findings. Update: After installing 'seatbelt.kext' and 'DSDT' patch, the system looks stable...which means that EVGA X58 SLI can be installed OSX by following Digital Dream's guide although Sound has to be resolved somehow !!! Thanks DD. Thanks

Thanks. well if you read through this thread you will find there really isn't a best board. I would just advise against the Intel DX58so, I returned that board. Most people use the Gigabyte X58-UD5, Asus P6T, MSi, and EGVA. I know at least 4-5 have the Gigabyte including myself and it works basically 100%. OUTSIDE
Try another distribution.... Try Retail Install Method, using kexts from the i7 community. It should work fine buddy. Take a deep breath, a few days of calm. You should figure it out by then. When you do tell us your results. I've tried all distributions and the retail method with kexts... and nothing! Sometimes boot the install, sometimes not... when I've installed after doesn't boot or freezee at the final of install... arghhhhhhhhhhhhhh

jplee4907
Hi Digital Dreamer I have a question for you. I'm trying to install following your guide. But when I tried with pre-patch.sh, I found script messages on Terminal...as follows; bash-3.2# ./pre-patch.sh Volume MAC on disk1s2 unmounted HFS+ filesystem detected Looking for 1 words free reading 4096,4096 Marking word 500 writing back 4096,4096 allocated blocks 32 at start 16000 1+0 records in 1+0 records out 512 bytes transferred in 0.023491 secs (21796 bytes/sec) dd: /dev/disk1: Resource busy You see the last line which comes after "sudo dd if=./guid/boot0 of=/dev/disk1 bs=400 count=1" from 'pre-patch script.' Actually, I'm applying your guide to my new EVGA X58 board. The reason is that I had an extra HDD which was installed under your guide before, nnd when I just hooked that HDD in the system, it is working like charm except sound. (I'm still using it now.) So, I applied your guide directly on other hdd to make sure the system installed by your guide, but it won't boot showing "Non System Disk Error" "Press any key." And I tried reinstall, looked at the terminal closely, and found "dd: /dev/disk1: Resource busy." I guess that's why the HDD wasn't able to boot because the bootloader wasn't fully patched from EFT-V8. Any advice or suggestion? Thanks for reading it! JP jplee4907, Do you have another partition on that volume? That error shows up when the script is unable to unmount all partitions belonging to the drive. If possible, try unmounting them manually via Disk Utility first, then run the pre-patch script again. My guide mentions this issue and has the following to say: If you have more than one partition on this drive and encounter this error in Terminal, "dd: /dev/disk2: Resource busy", it's likely the other partitions need to be unmounted. Try unmounting the other partitions via Disk Utility and run the script again. This time you will get a 'vsdbutil: Couldn't get volume information for such and such' message. Ignore that, as you have already completed that command previously. At this point your partitions should be mounted again. best regards, MAJ

Now, i can try with a whole disk. Thanks DD, much appreciate for your help. PS: Another thing is that it's so tough to activate Sound correctly. One of my hdd which was installed under your guide works very stable. Only thing is missing Sound. I see the intel high definition Audio on system profiler, but nothing on line-out speakers of system preferences. It's so confusing. I think I will try a few thing to get this 889a right, but I also thinking about USB sound card.^^ Also, on the system info, now I see "Memory: ...1033 MHz DDR2 SDRAM where as mine 1600 DDR3. But it's better than before, it used to be 400 mhz when I was using voodoo kernel 9.5.0. Just a quick thought, I thought those kext files are very similar to Wolfienuke's guide, right? but when I tried Wolfienuke's EFI Partition, I get "Still waiting for root device..." Anyway, EVGA X58 to me becomes a great board withough hassling about AHCI trouble. In fact, I sent my Giga board for RMA. When I get it back, I will have fun time to reinstall everything again. digital_dreamer
Regarding the EVGA X58 board: Are we absolutely sure that it has the 889A for audio? Can any verify this? I'm thinking it may be a 880, 885 or some other variant, which may explain why everyone is having trouble getting audio working. On the other hand, it may be the 889A, but with a different layout. So, someone may have to redo the pin configurations in the plist to work with that board. If anyone has Windows installed on the EVGA X58, check the Device Manager for the actual audio codex for us. Then, we may be able to get closer to a solution. regards, MAJ

Plus there was a lot more support for the Gigabyte. I couldn't find anything for the sound either I tried using the same 889 that the Gigabyte uses and nothing got it to work for me. Let us know if you get it going. Also Digital or Wolfie, Which kernel are you both using now? I have been using the one that came with the efi v3 script which I am pretty sure is the 9.5 and was wonder if you guys use the newer one and where to get it? I have gotten 2 random kernel panics and I have seemed to fix the first one with the seatbelt.kext from 10.5.5. I was getting it from mounting of large files and the 2nd one just came from uninstalling an app.

As for sound, I reckon the audio layout or pin configuration is different and that would explain why it doesn't work with the Gigabyte version of the 889A. It's one thing to have the correct driver, but quite another to have the correct input/output layout of the audio on the board. Have you tried this ALC889A thread that has various AppleHDA.kexts available? Pick the one that best matches your board (# of inputs/outputs) and try them. I would suggest that those with the EVGA X58 board try out these kexts out, as well, if the board really has the RLT 889A chip. I returned it because I found it very limited and not as future proof. with only 8gb of ram and only crossfire allowed. Plus there was a lot more support for the Gigabyte. It's available here: Voodoo-based 9.6 kernel If you use this, you'll need to revert to the newer seatbelt.kext version (10.5.6), as it would KP like the 9.5 kernel did with the 10.5.6 seatbelt.kext. I wouldn't know about the uninstalling KP issue. What application was it? Did it have its own uninstaller application? regards, MAJ

jplee4907
Narrowing it down: Gigabyte X58 UD5 (Due to recent success with most gigabyte products/ 2 full 16x PCIe-2.0 slots) 329.99 from Micro Center since i hate waiting. 3gigs of DDR3 at the best price i can find. Sources will be newegg or FRYS etc. Looks like the markets right at 100 bucks for this, will add 3gigs more later. Use 2 existing 500gig sata drives i have laying around. i7 920 of course, right at 300 smackers. Use existing wireless card and video cards, hopefully i can get the GX2 functioning with this board. All totaling around 800 dollars hmm GA-X58-UD5....mwave.com is cheaper around $289. Just checked microcenter where used to sell I7 920 at $239, real good price, but it went up to $279 now. I have X58-UD5. It's really good looking board especially 2oz copper layer, board itself is so thick. Overclock ability is also good. But since I had a trouble with AHCI mode enable frmo bios...I think I beginning to like EVGA more.^^
