manta
Yes I can use the eject button when it is empty... when there's a disk inside I click the Eject button in Finder or right-click on the drive on the desktop and click 'eject'. You're probably right about the drive - I'll get round to investigating it some day. Right now it doesn't really bother me. I've installed plenty of software and ripped CDs from the drive so it's functionally OK for me - keyboard eject isn't essential. Incidentally I successfully updated to 10.5.6 using the usual method (boot into Kalyway, install onto MacHD). No fiddling required. It happens that 10.5.6 seemed slower to me though - bootup and benchmarks slower - so I went back to 10.5.5 which has been solid for me. I also tried Carbon Copy Cloner to restore the drive - it didn't work CopycatX is the only tool that works... but I guess you knew this already It's slow (takes over 2 hours to restore) but it works! ---edit--- OK very weird, it seems I need to keep the eject button pressed down for about 1.5 seconds. Pretty cool as it means you don't eject the CD by accident by missing the 'mute' key but is this normal? I don't remember this happening on normal Macs, but it's possible it's a recent improvement I've missed.
peach-os
yes-I know. I´ve tried them all you need to push the eject button a little bit longer. it´s the same on our new imac.

peach-os
Hi there. No clues that could help me with the little problem I'm having using the mic on the front panel? Thanks I´m using a firewire soundcard. I remember that there was somewhere a solution for it in combination with strings. search for ALC889
manta
you need to push the eject button a little bit longer. it´s the same on our new imac. Good to know, thanks.. can't believe I missed this on regular Macs, but then I don't use CDs very often these days! Thanks again peach-os, I couldn't have built my perfect Mac without this thread By the way I made a list of some nice apps that other DAW users might find useful: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?s=&...t&p=1025281

herodv
Hi peach-os! Thank you for this great tutorial! Yesterday I ordered the hardware and I'm really looking forward to build my first hack! I have one question: Which advantages are there to install retail leo and not to install kalyway i.e. on two partitions? Are there performance issues? Thank you very much!!! peach-os
I wouldn´t say there are performance issues. retail is closer to real macs and so far easier to update. especially this board loves retail (also my asus p5w dh). everything except sound is working ootb. read the forum and you will see that the most guys having network, sleep or other issues are using patched distros. distros are very helpful to test and to install on difficult machines. since using retail I can even wake up my asus board with the mouse or keyboard (with gigabyte unfortunately not possible). imho a very important fact is that patching the system yourself gives you a lot of knowledge and will help you to solve problems in future much easier. danielsan2008
hey guys! I'm still fighting with my "cracky sounds problem" (loud "pop" sound at the begining of any sound output) I've tried sooo many kext but nothing helps at this time... What could it be that the kext form peach-os work on your machines... and not on mine DS3... Same board, same chips *wondering* I just saw that I got TWO sound devices in my profiler... but only the first one shows working ports. You think that this could be a part of my sound problem? And how can I solve that? Any ideas? Thanks in advance
peach-os
did you try this http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?s=&...st&p=967323 or this http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?s=&...st&p=911892 ? probably more people have this issue, but don´t realize that because they are using firewire or usb interfaces. I never tested my machine so far that I could deny having it. the onboard sound on my machine is only for the system sounds if needed. for working with logic I would suggest you to buy an extra interface which would improve your sound quality dramatically. the cheapest one I would recommend is the M-Audio Audiophile 24/96 USB. I´m using it on my macbook and works also flawless with my hacki. very good prices for it on ebay.also a new M-Audio fast Track USB is available for 90 euros. danielsan2008
hey peach-os thanks for the fast reply! I think I've tested these kexts too... but can't remember to 100%... I tried really A LOT OF kexts :-/ But I'll give it a try on Friday! The USB Sound Device method is a very interesting thing... but 90€... hmmm I don't need my machine for sound editing and stuff. So a very simple one with just two Outs and one or two Ins would do the work... You know a cheap device of that kind which will work probably? Thanks again! EDIT: Wow found this very cheap thing from hama (and also many other manufactures) http://www.amazon.de/Hama-USB-Virtual-Audi...DDYZV5ZRBMNRVE6 And some guys from the comments use it on Leo! So this would be my fallback option

herodv
Hi all, my hack is ready and running! :-) Here are some pics, if you like: http://dvoelk.noadsfree.com/Hackintosh What not works yet, is the sleep mode. If I want to switch in the sleep mode, the PC switches off and after switching on, it boots. Are there any tipps, how to fix that?

peach-os
if you already bought th TC - try it. the TC devices seem to have problems with the texas instrument chip, which is also used on the gigabyte board. normally it´s vice versa: the TI firewire chip works better with the most audio devices. if you didn´t buy a device yet, I would recommend you the focusrite saffire le in the same price category. if you add an other 100 you could get the apogee duet, which is fantastic! Please help. Thanks P. this msg could mean different mistakes you did. it doesn´t find the master boot section on the selected disk. did you format the disk correctly? with guid partition? not mbr, not apple! did you check the number of the disk correctly? did you try first to use osx86tools with the efi chameleon option? as soon you get rid of this you will not see any longer the hang at "verifying DMI pool data" otherwise use the searchengine. you will find tons of posts about this
pepenero
thanks your quick answer, I did manually setup with fdisk and it was succesful. my other issue is that i have 8500gt card and i cant get it work, so i use my system with an old 7200gs card. If you can give any further assistance that would be appreciated. Anyway your guide is the best i have ever read, thank you again! P.
