runegood
I have a Dell Studio 1535 and CANNOT get the sound working! I'm using iATKOS v7 and I've tried using the voodoo sound drivers. didnt work. did a clean install with azalia sound drivers, no good. Clean install again with AppleHDA kext that came on the install disc, still no good. This current install, I did with no sound drivers selected on the install. I've followed all of the directions from page 1 of this guide all the way to page 6. I downloaded kext helper and hex edit to perform the actions for each step and every time I install the new kexts that everyone is providing, kext helper tells me to cross my fingers and reboot, but it never works. I've done it at least 10 different. I've seen a handful of other people on here with Dell Studio laptops and IDT Audio that have successfully gotten it to work so I know its possible. I just dont know what I'm doing wrong!!

Shingo198199
Hi all, just like to chip in some help to all those who are trying to get IDT audio. Honesty, the instructions are a little vague, but I do understand what is going on after spending hours and hours reading the guide all over again. I think it will be helpful to post additional screenshots as to where to find the device ID even though a lot of members did point out the use of x86tools to get the device ID or through Windows. I cannot get anything out from Windows, thus I used the x86tools. But what I got from the output that was related to the audio is this, HD Audio Controller [8086:293e] (rev 03) And I believe I failed to get the correct stuff I need to find. since there was nothing close to 0x12345678 I can only guess that my device ID might be 0x8086293e Gritted my teeth and I proceeded to do the rocket science maths. At the end of it all, nothing... .... ... I was going to do the pin config stuff and I followed the guide on how to flip the pin config, searched for it in Windows, and I need to flip 50 sets of those numbers, #@&!!% At the end of it all, I gave up. But here's the good news. I got my sound working. And in the most simplest manner ever.. I could not believe it. Go download ##### Under the advance options, kexts, audio. Go to the Voodoo experimental version and choose the 2nd one. The very very experimental one. Install this one and delete the AppleHDA.kext from the extensions folder or it will kernel panic, as the guide says so. The instructions in there says, backup the AppleHDA.kext and delete the one in the \systems\library\extensions After rebooting. WOO HOO>>> I get sound... Bruce Atkinson
Following from the previous post... Got IDT working on ECS board using latest voodoohda beta kext... based on FreeBSD drivers. Use the installer from the download section at http://code.google.com/p/voodoohda/. Adjust the the settings in the preference pane; use SSE2. Had crackly sound on previous versions but this one actually works! Finally! If on AMD (like me), patch the cpuid of the preference panes in system library to get the bar icon working. My device id is 1002:4383.
Headspin
Whats the command to get a codec dump from linux/backtrack4? or is this possible in Windows 7/Mac SL? I go to device manager and I see my IDT audio Codec and my IDT Device... I right click them both, went to details and showed hardware ids but not sure what to do with that or where to go from there... :S :S :S If this helps anyone, Im on an AMD machine and I got this from Snow Leopard somehow :S What Do I do? Can someone explain in detail or make one for me? if not please explain and I will gladly do it myself... DJ-PalmBeach
I just want to say your the best. I didn't think it was going to work, but I follow your steps down to the T and restarted my HP Dv6 Pavillion and it worked. I did have to do some research on how to use the Hex Editor to find and locate those device ID's/ Thanks pal I normally don't respond or mention any comments, but I feel when someone like age_sabres18, to give us assistance. He should be thanked. Now for those who are having some diffculites, I can only mention some of the diffculites I was having. 1. I found using this site to covert decimal to Hex and hex to decimal, may be of use to you all. http://easycalculation.com/hex-converter.php (and) http://www.mathsisfun.com/binary-decimal-h...-converter.html You need to also grab your audio device id from system profiler and with that information, use one of the sites I provided so it can covert it to decimat. Here a tip: remove the 0x in front when inserting the your device ID. 2. Ok, when you download the Hex editor and you navigate to applehda.kext/contents/macos/applehda. Don't make the mistake I did, I spent an hour trying to understand why I couldn't find B0761D11. When you select find, you have to search like this b0 76 1d 11. Now that is clear out the way, my device id for my Intel High Definition audio is 0x103c144c, so I replaced b0 76 1d 11 with 4c 14 3c 10. It may differ with your system. Now age, this were I had most of the problem. After I entered my entries, I was not able to save it. It first told me I didn't rights to save, so I gave my read and write to the entire extension folder and also within the applehda. However, the problem still occur, whenever I would try to save it. My workaround, I made the correction (inserting my device ID) then I saved the applehda to the desktop. I then copied it back into s/l/e/ applehda.kext/contents/macos. Steps 3 and 4, I had to install show all files, so I can see the plist for both Open AppleHDA.kext/contents/info.plist and Open AppleHDA.kext/contents/plugins/AppleHDAController.kext/contents/info.plist. On step 4, I was debating if I should use 0x293e8086 I didn't know which device id under IOPCIPrimaryMatch I should use. I end up using 0x293e8086. That all folks. Once again thanks age, now I have to do a backup, can't afford to do all this again...

kaward
Step 2: Edit Binary ok to edit the apple hda binary u need to first download hexedit (a program for osx to edit binary files). once you have downloaded hexedit open up your applehda.kext/contents/macos/applehda with it. in the hex file there are two device ids you have to adjust search the hex for B0761D11. you should find two instances of these hex numbers. as you can notice the bytes are flipped ie. B0761D11 = 111D76B0 in the two instances you find in the binary, type in the appropriate device id for your card. in the latest build 10.6.7, the hex B0761D11 can not be found in the binary file applehda, I think the one you gave us were fixed by you. am I right? So here would you mind to share us how to modify the original binary applehda? So we can use the latest applehda. thx.

kudlatosc
In my Dell N5010 audio now works fine under 10.7.2, I've just modified the info.plist in VoodoHDA (2.7.3) and got everything working including HF output and all volume controls. Clear sound without any glitches. If your sound is glitchy and volume controls don't work propertly, open /S/L/E/VoodooHDA.kext\Contents and open Info.plist with plist editor. Then search for : <key>Vectorize</key> <false/> <key>VoodooHDAEnableHalfMicVolumeFix</key> <false/> <key>VoodooHDAEnableHalfVolumeFix</key> <false/> <key>VoodooHDAEnableMuteFix</key> <false/> <key>VoodooHDAEnableVolumeChangeFix</key> <false/> When You got this, change the value from false to true, next fix permissions with kext utility and reboot. Try experimenting which of these affect Your IDT propertly. Hope it helps some IDT users

Josh88m
Hope it helps some IDT users Thank's for this solution!!! Working good for me on IDT 92HD81B1X

Josh88m
Work to you? How?Here, problem of volume.. I fix the volume problem with kudlatosc's tricks: open /S/L/E/VoodooHDA.kext\Contents\Info.plist and edit the lines in this way: <key>Vectorize</key> <true/> <key>VoodooHDAEnableHalfMicVolumeFix</key> <true/> <key>VoodooHDAEnableHalfVolumeFix</key> <true/> <key>VoodooHDAEnableMuteFix</key> <true/> <key>VoodooHDAEnableVolumeChangeFix</key> <true/> However it works but I have some random KP, because I think voodoohda enable both HDMI Audio by ATI Graphics Card and IDT Audio. Sorry for my bad English, I'm Italian.
