aztec_knight
Guys this is just a big thanks to all of you What an amazing support team we have here! With your help I got everything running great ! No problem at all A little recommandation, may be you should include in your tutorial ''how to dual boot with XP using Chain0'' as it's really easy and would have saved me hours of searching on the net . Thanks again, hoping to get wifi working without changing the card soon EDIT: Wow after 2 hours of searching, downloading, changing fixing etc... I cannot get my wifi to work. I get the airport sign without grey bars in it. This said, I cannot activate airport, when I click activate airport it does nothing. Any advice? I'm actually at the same point here hehe... got the card to be recognized, but no luck finding networks... still researching will let you know if I find anything and if anyone knows more than me Please be kind and post it If I'm a pain in the A.. pls let me know... otherwise thank you very much
MacTech84
Paralles 4 wont install BUT I was able to install Paralles 3 (build 5626) and installed Windows XP via the Acer Aspire Recovery Disc. I prefer just booting directly into Windows XP but it's nice to have this as an option while running OS X. I am quite curious as to how the hell you did this! The Intel Atom does not support Virtualization at all yet Parallels 3 installed? I thought by the very definition of these programs the processor was required to have Virtualization tech. If I am wrong please let me know as I am quite curious on this.... Yes you have to crack the sucker open but its worth it. Believe me.... I installed an 802.11n chip inside and the range and speed even when on G networks is far superior, and to be honest the Atheros line of chips are {censored}! I have had and know of people that have used these chips and they have some of the worst support. My hats off to the guys working on a driver for this but Broadcom is the superior chip and no worries on compatibility. You can find one for between $15-$30 and about 20 minutes of your time to install and its totally worth it. ~Stephen

I thought by the very definition of these programs the processor was required to have Virtualization tech. If I am wrong please let me know as I am quite curious on this.... I think it has to do with the VooDoo kernel faking the Atom as a Core Solo and thus making Parallels 3 think I meet the CPU requirements. I think the reason Parallels 4 wont load it because minimum CPU requirement is 1.66 GHz and the Atom is just shy @ 1.6GHz. BTW - I'm having Shutdown problems. I tried searching for answers in this thread and the one suggestion I saw about deleting a particular kext file (something like AppleCPIBattery.kext) but I can't seem to find it anywhere on my computer so either I don't have it and it's not my problem or I do have and need help finding it and hopefully it will fix my problem. I just want this thing to shutdown properly. Any help is much appreciated!

Rivest
Thanks Stephen for your recommandation but I'll stick with my D-Link dongle as of now. When I'll buy additional ram I'll upgrade my wifi card too. May Be touch screen? Is it worth it or it's just to show off to your friends?
JDM420
about resizing i recomend you not to do that i f*ck*d up my instalation once doing that , but if you want to do it i would recomend you to reinstall all from the begining... #2 kernels are like the hearts of the os more info in: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kernel_(computer_science) and a kext is an extension of the kernel they work like the drivers in windows, with the difference that if you screw up with one of the kexts the OS could have problems more info here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kext #3 I'm not sure about this but i think that we have to repair permissions because we're moddifing the kernel, and in the begining of the OS this permissions need to be checked for the correct funtuanility of the OS #4 Never... #5 I had the same question but if you need something (knowledge, an advise, or anything) you have the best friend a man can get: Google XD so go and google it XD Thanks, I think I might do the full reinstall anyway Just a followup, can I use time machine to recover everything when I re-install? Will i still have to do all the upgrades/fixes if i do? Thanks for the help. Surprisingly I never thought to check wikipedia. Great source for general info. brgroup
I am trying to install the xxx 10.5.5 and I cant seem to get the "customize" config right, could you please outline exactly what drivers we need to select for XXX 10.5.5 on Aspire One? At the moment i just get stuck in a repeating restart loop with the aspire screen and the grey apple boot screen. Thanks for all the hard work, after being a avid user mac since my first computer, its great to finally be able to break away from the expensive hardware. On my previous installs, a restart loop meant too many kexts are trying to load at the same time..When I loaded up and added two chipset drivers or VGA drivers thinking it will catch at least one of them.. Here's my configuration. People have reported using xXx out of the box, but I was missing some things. Others may have different or better suggestions..My Specs: I am running AAO with 320GB hard drive, BIOS 3305, Dual Boot Windows 7 pre-beta, 1.5GB ram, Dell 1590 Wireless. I just did the following install 5 minutes ago so I know it works flawlessly on my machine.. If you haven't done so, update your xXx disc with the PPF2 patch and then try choosing these for your AAO as a start (at your own risk): Check - Essential System Software Check - PC_EFI9 (needed to update to 10.5.6 next week) Check - DSDT patch (needed to update to 10.5.6 next week) Check - Essential Kexts Check - Kernel = Voodoo 9.5 v1.0 (you can choose whichever you'd like or no choice for default) Check - Chipset = ICHx Check - Video = GMA950 0x27 AAO version Check - Network = Realtek1000 (you'll probably need an ethernet connection to get through the setup routine) Check - Audio = ALC268 AAO version Check - Power = ACPIBatteryManager Chun Nan version Check - Others = Boot Prompt (for some reason Darwin boot options weren't showing up without this) Check - Tools After setup, 1) Change Sleep settings to Never 2) If you used Voodoo kernel you can edit com.apple.boot.plist to add "cpus=2" for Hyperthreading, tho' I haven't been able to get this to show in profiler on my machine. 3) Add a longer Darwin timeout in com.apple.boot.plist - I changed mine to 30 sec so I have plenty of time 3) Change trackpad settings to tap/click if you want CAVEATS: Sleep doesn't work There may be a Atheros 5007ag fix if you don't want to buy a new wireless card (search InsanelyMac or AspireOneUser.com) I heard there are now patched drivers for SD card only, haven't tested..AspireOneUser.com or osxsdhci.sourceforge.net Oh yeah, always boot with -v until your machine is dialed in so you can see what's happening! Check here often for more fixes and tuneups..there are many Geniuses working hard to help!!
DarkJimmy
thnx...how do i apply that kext? if you dont mind explaining it to me...thnx sure, to install the kext you can unse kexthelperb7, and then you must repair the permissions on the mac partition using the disk utility. you can also use osx86 tools. Mhm...seems quite neat :censored2: ! Now I will get ride of my Dual-Boot...Oh, btw, have you tried it with Ubuntu? 3 OS on a AAO..THIS would be awesome!!! MrENGLISH
Here's a new project for you guys! Changing the Apple Logo in the About This Mac window to an Acer Aspire One logo Changing the default Apple logo is quite easy and you can put virtually any 214×124 tif image in it's place, here's how to do it: Go to ' /System/Library/CoreServices', right click and select 'Get Info'. Change permission for 'Everyone' to 'Read and Write'. Before closing, select 'Apply to enclosed items'. In 'CoreServices' you'll find 'loginwindow'. Right click and select 'Show Package Contents'. A new window will pop up. Go to ' /Contents/Resources' In this directory you will find a file called 'MacOSX.tif'. Make a backup copy of the file 'MacOSX.tif' by renamining it 'MacOSX.tif.bak'. This is very important if you want to revert back to the default Apple logo. Download the zipped 'MacOSX.tif' and move it to this same Resources/ folder. That's it! Now when you reboot, the new logo will appear. To revert back to the default Apple logo, follow the same directions and replace the new logo with the original MacOSX.tif file that you backed up Click HERE to download Acer logo Here's a couple other "MacOSX.tif"s you can use too Click HERE to download Black logo Click HERE to download Chrome logo
