BlackCH
Can somebody edit the first Post? I recommend to use the new xXx 10.5.5-Disc, since it has extra Drivers for the AAO on it...all you need...it also runs very fast...so I don't see a point to make a Acer-Aspire One Specific-CD...I will give up this "project"... Download the xXx-Disc, and apply the PPF1 + PPF2 on it and install! Yep!, I tested on my girlfiend's AA1. All works out of the box in the first boot (except wifi; that has to be replaced); No need to tweek no drivers, nor BIOS settings....

ryan296
@ Ryan : How did you make the USB Wifi workI have a netgear usb wifi. Can you guide me through the installation I searched the web and found a wireless adapter that people said worked with OSX. I ended up with an Asus WL167G. MacTech84
Hello Everyone... I'm more than new to this whole Hackintosh thing... and I'm trying to follow this thread for the aspire one installation, i've messed up so many times (not only with the AA1) and i still can't get any copy to work. i'm downloading the Kalaway iso right now to follow this tutorial letter by letter... but i do have a question about another copy that i got from a friend the "LEO4ALL" and I was wondering if using this version would save any time... also i'm doing the install from another computer since the ext. optical drive hangs as i boot from it with the AA1 will this tutorial work at all if i use the LEO4ALL???? please help also can FCP run in any way? i want install this OS to learn it before i actually get myself a mac can't really aford anything over the 400 CDN i've spent on this toy. any help is greatly appreciated As Far as using Leo4All, I would recommend a no on that. I have tried to use the latest install just for fun, and I could not get the thing to boot at all as its kind of dated. The Kalyway disk is the best to use, although I have gotten iDeneb, and XXX 10.5.5 to work. I am downloading the new iAtkos 5i install to see what happens. Its easy to use some of the other installs when you go through this guide and know which drivers to install. And as far as FCP I have it and can try to install it, but I think it will not run as the reqs say it requires a Core Duo minimum. And when using the Vanilla Kernel or the Voodoo Kernel (I have only used these) it lists as a core solo so most likely will not work. But hey give it a try! I searched the web and found a wireless adapter that people said worked with OSX. I ended up with an Asus WL167G. What is this Voodoo thing and what does it do? The Asus should work for you, I remember hearing that its either supported out of the box or there are drivers. And the Voodoo Kernel is is another version of the Mac Kernel. The Mach Kernel is the heart of the system and the very base of OS X. The guys that make the Voodoo kernel are doing this to support many other CPU's as well as features on those CPU's and its quite worth the try. ~Stephen
mdc
I have downloaded the Kalyway iso and I want to install this to an external USB drive. Will doing it this way leave the Acers MBR on the internal drive in tact? Mark

I just finished downloading the kalaway and I'm about to install it... I guess I'm gonna give it a try to install FCP on it; basically this is the only reason I need the MAC OS for. well and also for the looks hehe.. hopefully one of us can tweak the FCP in a way that we can at least run some small videos for basic editing (for learning purposes of course) btw... any news on the Wifi for this??? I don't really wanna mess up the warranty on this (my middle name is "butterhands"

I might be doing something wrong but, I believe I'm following every single step letter by letter like I had said b4 lol, but for some reason I get stuck at step 37. After I install the update to 10.5.4 (I'm using the combo update [is it the right one??]) and then I do the pressing F8 and do the "-v' the image freezes it won't restart I did a hard reboot on it and I believe I might need to start it all over again... any comments bout what i'm doin' wrong??? help plz!!! nfg2u
Is there a fix for the mic input adjustment slider missing yet? or does anyone know how to increase the mic sensitivity? Sure would love to use Skype. Big thanks to all that went before me here!! Other than that everything is working other than sleep, and the mic. I went down the Kalyway road with little trouble from the instructions here. Got the Dell wifi card that works perfect.

I have one more question though... I know there is no fix for the wifi and most ppl rather wreck the unit than try to come up with a patch for it (for some reason it sounds like it's less time consuming this way... ) anywho... ryan296
Yes. If mic fully worked, sleep, and shutdown I'd be one happy camper. Also, just curious because everyone is getting the Dell wireless and cracking open their netbooks, is it impossible to come up with a driver for the one that is built into the Acer Aspire One or is it just too much of a hassle? Also, just curious because everyone is getting the Dell wireless and cracking open their netbooks, is it impossible to come up with a driver for the one that is built into the Acer Aspire One or is it just too much of a hassle? And there is no patch for the wifi card in the AAO. If you want to and its very easy, I was kind of scared but considering I have now pulled the AAO apart multiple times including for a case swap. I hated the blue it came in so I bought parts for a white one, to get to the wireless card is easy, and its an easy switch. The two best ways to handle this are either find a USB dongle with OS X drivers for it, they are not going to work right off the bat unless they are seen as an airport card. The other solution is taking it apart and putting in a new Broadcom based card. And let me tell you this, I swapped one out for a Broadcom based 802.11n card (it was a macbook pull, LMAO) and it was well worth it. To have that dedicated I get screaming internet on this thing and I recommend this method over all. ~Stephen

When prompted to do so, press F8 to interrupt the Darwin startup. 36. Type 'update -v' (without the quotes obviously), and press enter. harbot
I have tested the new Voodoo Kernel seems faster than the earlier candidate version - this is good also with regards to shutdown on Voodoo still having problem if your using battery but if on AC adapter its working fine. Also I suggest installing the manual way since you cannot update your Mac is on apple site if using Voodoo you have to retain the Vanilla kernel. PS 40. When prompted press F8 and use "-v" to boot without quotes >> your right hehehehehe

agent477
Just got my Dell 1390 card today, only took about 10 to 15 mins to install. It works great in leopard, it was recognized instantly which was great. The only problem I have now is that I can't seem to be able to install a driver for the XP Home that came in the Aspire One. All I get is an error message stating that it's not supported with my os or something. Does this sound familiar to anybody? I would really like to get a working driver for this. JDM420
Hello Everyone I'll make the intro short to spare you all the repetition: Thank you, thank you, thank you. I was raised on Windows and was stuck using it for every job I've ever had, any school I've ever attended and every computer I've ever been able to afford. People like me have NO CLUE what they're missing, and man is the learning curve worth it. I've been enjoying my AA1 Hackintosh for only a week now and I'm a total convert. *&^% Microsoft. Seriously. &^%$ Microsoft That being said, I am computer literate, but not so computer savvy and this was by far the most ambitious project I've ever undertaken as far as getting my hands dirty under the hood of a computer is concerned. Which has left a few nagging questions that I would really appreciate some help with; #1. When I partitioned my hard drive to install 10.5.2 (I went through all this before xxx) I split it pretty much down the middle. Now I'd like to go back and make my XP partition as small as possible. Originally I used Partition Magic 8 through XP which now seems a little hesitant to play nice with the other partitions. - Is it safe to resize through XP anymore? - Can I resize through OSX? (Software?) - Is there any risk of &^%$ one or both partitions up? - Is it possible/advisable to just rid myself of the dreaded MS all together? The answers to the next couple of questions could fill volumes I'm sure, but I'm just looking for general concepts to wrap my head around. #2. How do Kernels and Kexts differ from thier PC counterparts? #3. Why did I need to 'repair permissions'? #4. When will MS realize that more is not better? #5. Aside from these great forums where's the best place to start educating myself on the in's and out's of the Mac OS? Not just tutorials for specific tasks, but a general understanding of how the OS functions. (As you can see from question #2, I don't even know what a kext is.) Again, thank you all so much. This forum took an otherwise terrifying task and made it possible for me. I can't believe I almost installed Vista on this thing... Thanks. barbapopa
installed new voodoo kernel and everything running nicely. Still, the remaining problems have caused me to stick with XP for now: -lack of hibernation (when you start taking this thing places and can pop open and quickly shut the top and use it in seconds, the lack of sleep within osx becomes a big drag) -fan control: the annoying fan is always on in OSX, whereas in XP with a1ctrl it's only on after the CPU hits 60C. -HD clicking: my AAO suffers from that over-eager HD parking, and while a1ctrl fixes the problem, nothing I can find on OSX will eliminate the stupid clicking sound. -trackpad: somehow the trackpad just doesn't feel as smooth in osx as it does in XP. maybe that's just because I'm used to the acceleration factor in XP. I have similar problems when I plug in a mouse, but they've been (mostly) solved with SteerMouse. With the trackpad, though, no luck. Still feels sluggish. Besides those things, it's great that the AAO can run OSX so well, but since I bought this thing to cart around the city and use in various places including really quiet libraries, subways (standby is essential here), I find myself booting far more often into XP. I've never used OSX much before and really love it in terms of visuals and program installation, and programs like Adium, Quicksilver, and iPhoto are great, but until these pratical fundamentals are solved with the AAO I can't get around to enjoying the more elegant aspects of OSX because they just aren't worth the tradeoff. volsk
I'm eagerly awaiting my A150. It should arrive friday. In the openingpost it is now suggested we use the XxX 10.5.5 distro. But what packages should I select. I found the following screenshot of all the options. And I really don't now which packages I need. For example there are three ALC268 packages that look reasonable.
