I am using the power management bundle from post #187 (on page 11) for a battery meter and have not experienced any problems shutting down with the Voodoo Kernel.

Also, I have not yet noticed my Aspire One getting hot at all as some have reported. :rolleyes::D

 

Even when I had it on for about 8 hours yesterday - not hot at all.. :censored2: :cold: maybe I just got lucky :D on that one! :)

You use iATKOS, Kalyway... or what? I think I'll try some of those voodoo-recommended kexts and see what happens... seemed to notice an improvement with this new kernel in terms of speed over the vanilla one, definitely.

 

However... mine runs hot almost right away. Really annoying.

 

Oh, what bios are you running? I'm still on 3305 but need to switch to 3007 because I've got the screen flickering.

 

Turns out when I removed the appleacpibatterymanagement.kext entirely, and use that same powermanagement bundle you linked too, I too get the battery meter back, plus shutdown works fine now, which is nice.

 

Once I can solve the heat, everything'll be perfect... well, almost everything, except my broken dual-boot (http://www.aspireoneuser.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=6950#p49386)

Model ZG5 - AOA 150-1570

My system bios says it is 3304

I have 1.5 gigs of ram, 120 gb

 

I use Kalyway... I think... how can I check this? ^_^

 

You see... I was also lucky enough have OS-X already installed before I bought it. Purchased on Ebay from Ahfunaki who posted on this forum stating he was using Kalyway so that's what I assume I have.

Hello Harbot I been working on my AA1 to instal mac on it for days now i to had a ide to usb but didnt work as well as you so i used a flash drive to instal osx.. all that went fine but when it came to doing the update is where i am having a problem after installing the first update then the kernall i restarted the computer. now it keeps rebooting. i know its normal to do it a couple times but its been over 100 now and still counting. did i do something wrong? is there a way to fix it? I been searching everywhere for a solution with no luck. I am new to macs maybe when i changed the cpus=1 i didnt save? but i fallowed all the steps exactly so i dont know where the problem lyes

34. Restart your AA1.

35. When prompted to do so, press F8 to interrupt the Darwin startup.

36. Type 'update -v' (without the quotes obviously), and press enter. Your AA1 may reboot a couple of times during this update process. Don't panic!

Hey everyone. I'd just like to report another successful install of Leopard on an AAO (after a fashion). Although I'm a life-long Mac user, and plan to use the AAO exclusively as a Mac, I felt that having access to a fully functional Windows machine could prove useful, so I wanted to keep mine dual boot.

 

After screwing it up the first time (repartitioned the hard drvie incorrectly, resulting in a machine that would not boot at all), I have successfully gotten OS X running on this.

 

A couple of observations on the process. First of all this:

 

 

An Acer One WinXP boot disk (get it here: http://www.aspireoneuser.com/forum/viewtop...=11&t=2445)

 

SAVED my bacon after I screwed up the first time. It made me lose all the pre-loaded stuff, but seeing as I'm not planning to use XP much, I'm not that broken up about it.

 

Second, I set up the dual boot using brgroup's procedure from earlier in the thread, but the last steps:

 

12) NOW FINALLY!

Setup dual booting using this method:

Dual Boot Windows XP and Leopard

 

Here are the quick steps if the link above doesn't work:

  • 1. Unzip the chain0.zip file to your C:\

(or wherever you have windows installed)

  • 2. Open the Control Panel and click System (or right click "My Computer" from the desktop and go to Properties)

  • 3. Once there, click on the "Advanced" tab.

  • 4. Click the "Settings" button under "Startup and Recovery".

  • 5a. Now click "Edit" and add this line at the bottom:

C:\chain0="OS X Leopard"

 

*note: you can name it whatever you want, doesn't have to be OS X Leopard.

 

  • 5b. You should end up with something very similar to this:

[boot loader]

timeout=30

default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS

[operating systems]

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect

C:\chain0="OS X Leopard"

 

  • 6. Save & Exit. You're done!

proved to be unnecessary. I used Easeus to shrink the C: drive, then followed the steps to use DISKPART to set up the OS X partition and installed OS X as per the instructions at the beginning of the thread. Once OS X was installed, it automatically became the default OS at boot-up. Interrupting the Darwin loader before OS X starts allows me to select the XP partition and boot from there. The only "hitch" is that I need to do this every time I want to boot into Windows. If I'm in Windows and select "restart" it will boot into OS X unless I interrupt the startup and select XP. Again, for my purposes, this isn't a problem.

 

I have on order a 1GB stick of RAM and the Dell wireless card. I plan on installing both at one so I don't have to disassemble the machine twice.

 

Aside from that, the onmly outstanding issues I'm having relate to the Battery Meter and the wired Ethernet port. I can't quite make heads or tails of how to make them functional in OS X (lots of replies saying different things). I've re-read the thread without any success.

 

Anyone know which kexts / powermanagement bundles I should be using to get those functions working? Thanks.

 

EDIT: Disregard. I went through the thread again post by post (took a while!) and found the solutions to both problems. Now I just need to wait for my Dell 1390 and extra RAM to arrive and I will be all set.

ive managed to install leopard using boot 132 and retail dvd.

i have everything working perfectly.

but the problem is i want to use my imac as a remote disk but i cant get it to work with my aspire one.

 

any suggestions?

Do you have an ISO you can share so other users can do the same? A friend asked me to OSX his Aspire - I have a Wind already done with MSIWindOSx86.iso

i dont have the iso of the retail dvd.

i used an external hard drive and used my copy of leopard.

i did read the quotes but i figured it out... the update -v did nothing so i just reinstalled the os first time i pressed shift and wq all at the same time.... thats where my problem was... this time around i pressed shift then : then w then q and all was successful thanks for your input guys

Simply put, yes you can as long as the Flash Drive has enough space. Would you want to???? umm from what I have heard the time frame to get this done is many hours, so I would say plan on watching a few movies or get some video games to play...

Yes you can do it.... and would you want to? um yes it is almost fail proof and much faster install.. you use another mac computer and disc utility to "restore" the flash drive with the iso image of kalyway then make it bootable.. took about an hour and 40min for me and i used an older imac but the installation was a breeze... my problem was i had usb to ide converter and all the different internal ide dvd drives i were using would stop spinning half way through the install. the flash drive method saved me

I've installed Kalyway on my Acer Aspire One and most everything is working great so far. Here's a few problems I'd like to get fixed:

 

Built in WiFi support (I'm using a USB wireless adapter as of now)

Sleep

Shutdown (Does not work when power is unplugged)

 

I understand these things do not have a fix yet. One thing I was hoping someone could help me with is the built in mic. I installed a couple kexts and the mic is detected in the system preference pane (not all controls are present), but it does not work in ichat or in gmail gchat. I did try it in Skype and it works so I am confused as to what is wrong.

Fixing Internal Microphone ( Thanks to StickMAC™ ) for the kext compilation from iDeneb_v1.3_10.5.5_ISO.

 

1. Download StickMAC kext compilation file at this link >> http://www.mediafire.com/?vmwyyzdmh3y

2. unzip the file

3. open kext helper and drag and drop AppleHDA.kext and HDAEnabler.kext

4. type in password and click EASY Install

5. to be safe Open Terminal

6. type "sudo diskutil repairpermissions /" without ""

7. reboot AAO

Fixed :

- Auto Switching from Internal Speaker to headphone

- Internal Microphone receiving excellently

 

These kexts for the auto switch sound work great but myself and others have no internal microphone input slider. Anyone know how to fix this?

 

In the quote above harbot has said "Internal Microphone receiving excellently"

 

If recieving excellently is shouting loudly at very close range, than I suppose mine is working excellently as well. :)

 

if anyone has auto-switching with a microphone input slider please post a solution if you know of one. I know others have been asking about this issue quite a bit as well. Thanks

I have been goofing around with this method and was banging my head because, when I updated to 10.5.4, i lost the keyboard and trackpad... Just kept running 10.5.3 until i could find a suitable fix for the keyboard trackpad issue. (All of the other instructions worked fine for 10.5.3, by the way).

 

On an msiwind forum if found the following files which solved my problem...

 

appleps2controller.kext and acpips2nub.kext in this pack

Now I have a working trackpad and keyboard on the Acer Aspire One ZG5 in 10.5.5! I think there are some subtle differences between the models, as I have not seen many reports of this issue on the Aspire.

Voodoo Final kernel release is out.

Now with installer package including support kext extension.

Voodoo kernel can be used in installing any updates from Apple Software Update but advised to backup data and any extra kext extensions you might be using in case things don't work out.

Thanks, first chance I get I am going to update, and I am going to install the SpeedStep.kext as well to see what happens, and see if that solves the Sleep problem, supposedly it does.

I have a netgear usb wifi. Can you guide me through the installation

 

Not all USB wifi dongles are going to work with OS X. It will either have to have OS X drivers, or be broadcom based for it to be recognized as Airport Based.

 

Update

I installed the Voodoo Kernel, and its fast! its very awesome, and I highly recommend it. However, DO NOT INSTALL THE SPEED STEP.kext. It bricked my system instantly, and I mean INSTANTLY. I installed it using the OSx86 tools and right after there was an instant Kernel Panic listing that kext. Just do the Voodoo Kernel and all should be good...

And another update:

I was able to boot into single user mode and delete the Speed Step.kext. You need to first boot into Single User mode from darwin, and you will at one point get a root prompt. Than you will need to type in the command "rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/IntelEnhancedSpeedStep.kext" without quotes. One key piece of advice - the rm -rf command can delete entire directories so BE CAREFUL!

Hello Everyone... I'm more than new to this whole Hackintosh thing... and I'm trying to follow this thread for the aspire one installation, i've messed up so many times (not only with the AA1) and i still can't get any copy to work.

 

 

i'm downloading the Kalaway iso right now to follow this tutorial letter by letter... but i do have a question about another copy that i got from a friend the "LEO4ALL" and I was wondering if using this version would save any time... also i'm doing the install from another computer since the ext. optical drive hangs as i boot from it with the AA1

 

will this tutorial work at all if i use the LEO4ALL???? please help

 

also can FCP run in any way? i want install this OS to learn it before i actually get myself a mac can't really aford anything over the 400 CDN i've spent on this toy.

 

any help is greatly appreciated

Can somebody edit the first Post? I recommend to use the new xXx 10.5.5-Disc, since it has extra Drivers for the AAO on it...all you need...it also runs very fast...so I don't see a point to make a Acer-Aspire One Specific-CD...I will give up this "project"...

 

Download the xXx-Disc, and apply the PPF1 + PPF2 on it and install!
