xXx 10.5.6 OSX Install On The Aspire One:

........................For correct video:

........................b. From Pauls Wind Driver Utility Pack:

................................ - AppleIntelGMA950.kext

................................ - AppleIntelIntegratedFramebuffer.kext

................................ - AppleSMBIOS.kext

................................ - ClamshellDisplay.kext

................................ - Natit.kext

You dont need this kexts. Theres already a Graphic driver for the AAO in the ISO:

DarwinGMA950_id0x27ae (I've tested myself). Dont need for natit either.

ClamshellDisplay is already in the ISO too, and I will recommend to use SMBIOSEFI to avoid problems on future updates

What do ClamshellDisplay and SMBIOSEFI do? For a lot of packages I have no idea what they do... I'm extremely grateful for all the hard work in the ISO's, btw. Thanks!

Is ClamshellDisplay part of DarwinGMA950_id0x27ae? I can't find it solo in the ISO.

Oops it;s under Powermanagement.

Hi, Guy,

To answer my own question, I did an install without updating the BIOS and things went okay.

Since I just got the One from Bestbuy on Thursday, I only imagine the BIOS is fairly, which properly why I didn't ran into any problem, without all the instruction, I did get OS to run and Wifi running.

However, few things got me changed back to XP for the time being.

1) Built-In Mic doesn't work

2) iChat can't use the built-in Webcam

3) The Built-in card reader won't work

Since this is my netbook, which mainly used for chatting... issue 1&2 really defeat the purpose of this computer...

Plus it only come with 8GB built-in storage, I didn't have enough space to do a SW update...

So, I will continue to watch this thread, and keep my fingers crossed that all these issues will be resolved soon.

The mic does work, but its picky with some applications for some reason and iChat does work with the built in Webcam, I have used this many times and it should not be a problem as the cam is on the USB bus. It's strange that yours does not work, but if you have less than BIOS 3304 this could be your problem. Try to update your Bios and see what happens.

READ ME!!

Had to put that there just to get attention as I am wondering who here with there AAO is going to be going to MacWorld? I sure as hell am! Lets all meet somewhere during the week!

Just checked my bios version and it's 3305... I am debating if worth another install...

Since I have a old 40GB IPOD laying around, maybe do the HDD upgrade and give OSX another shot...

Hope you have fun at the Macworld, despite I live less than a hour away, but my current employer is quite picky about us taking time off to attend trade shows =P

Will post "if" I gotten somewhere with my mods.

I have followed the procedures on the previous page to install XxX 10.5.6 to my Acer Aspire One and most of my components seem to be working (thanks to a Dell 1390 wireless card), however, my two sd-slots are not functioning.

If I insert a card in either of the two slots, I get an icon in the system bar showing 'Unknown Vendor / Base System Peripheral / Power off Card' and these three lines are shown four(!) times. The only available option is Power off Card. The card is not recognized by the computer.

If I don't have any cards inserted in my AAO and I put the netbook in Hibernate, then wake up again, these three lines are shown eight times by default.

Any ideas, anyone???

That is because the Card reader does not work (stated many times previously throughout this forum). Someone is working on a driver that has had mixed results. The icon you see is because OS X sees the SD card as a PCMCIA card and displays general info.

Wow, first off thanks to everybody who put in effort to make this possible and for the well written tutorials.

I'm a complete and utter n00b at this, so please bear with me as I have a couple of n00bian questions:

1. I have already been using my AAO for a few months now with the winXP that came preinstalled. Can I install OSX vis-a-vis an already existing XP installation, or do I first need to format it all to journaled HFS+, install OSX and only then can I (can I?) install winXP via bootcamp?

2. I think I saw some OSX version that are a 'lighter' version, that is, are missing certain elements, specifically certain languages to keep the installer lighter. I need several languages on my installation, can anyone confirm that xXx 10.5.6 has all the languages that come with OSX? If it does not, can those somehow be added later?

Sorry if that was completely bogus or a misunderstanding on my part, as mentioned, I'm rather new to this.

Thanks again for all of this, getting a bit excited :)

First, you can just use a utility like Partition Magic to re-partition the drive without needing to reformat the drive. Once that is done just follow any of the previous guides in this forum on how to create Dual Booting. Also Bootcamp does not work on Hackintoshes.

Second, some distros out there will include multiple languages, most do not to save on the size. If I remember correctly the XxX 10.5.6 does include them but I cannot remember exactly which ones, would have to get that when I get home.

Hey Guys,

Im not sure if this is news or not so if its old please let me know!

I think I have made some headway on the microphone issue..... it seems it is a problem in GENERAL with the internal mic AND linux!!! Which could and probably does mean that the linux dump we are using maybe incorrect!!! It does work under windows so I guess if we can find out the difference between windows drivers and the linux/mac os drivers we may find our solution.. If I knew more about coding i would look into it myself. I would love to help in anyway I can!

Just a thought...

Here is the link to my source btw http://www.fixya.com/support/t879337-micro...ne_isnt_working

Also I found this which maybe useful for those who can understand it.

OK, 10.5.6 is back into my One now...

Again, to help out with the trackpad issues (too fast/can't tap) just use the file from post #547, Volsk was so nice to post the file we need.

As for the mic, I played around and notice it will work if I plug in a additional mic, and use the "Built-In Mic" on the list, but I really hate to use a seperate mic just to use my One... On the list, there is a Built-In speaker, which I though it might be actually referring to the Mic, but after some tests, it doens't really record.

I remember I read somewhere that One has issue automatically switching between side plug and built-in audio, so I think it's the direction I will take to resolve the mic issue.

As for Card Reader and iChat, still clueless, ichat still quit on me when I try to do anything with the webcam...

My A150 won't wake from sleep. Normally I would fix this by booting from my install stick, start the terminal and rm -rf /var/vm/sleepimage. But today i forgot my stick. I can boot into windows though. And since I have MacDrive installed I thought I could remove the sleepimage this way. Unfortunately /var is a symbolic link. Googling I've found it should refer to /Private/var. But I can't this folder either.

Searching for sleepimage doesn't find anything. Is there a way to remove this file from within Windows or edit a file such that it won't try to load it?

Solved it!

I didn't look into system and hidden files. Therefore I couldn't find the imagesleep file. Now I've deleted it and OS X is booting

Thanks re: windows. Okay, now that I realize it's not bootcamp makes a bit more sense. Any particular guide on dual booting you recommend?

And did you get a chance to see which languages are included in XxX 10.5.6?

Much obliged..!

old-ish :P

http://www.aspireoneuser.com/forum/viewtop...p;t=7595#p54374

confirms what your links say, somebody got a free load of Koolaid from Redmond...

This guy http://www.aspireoneuser.com/forum/viewtop...p;t=8699#p56362

claims to have got it working for OSX, but, this being the 'net, YMMV

Hey guys, got another question. With the XxX 10.5.6 distribution has anyone got the double tap on the touchpad to work. also the tap and drag feature.

If you had 10.5.5, set up trackpad functions there, with the modified PS2Controller.kext

then upgraded to 10.5.6, trackpad will work just the same with updated PS2 kexts.

Except you can't adjust it anymore 'cos the new Trackpad.prefPane needs

some tweaking of the PS2Controller.kext. If you drop the old Keyboard.prefPane

back in you should get back the adjustments.

Somebody please prove me wrong: I never heard yet of anybody going direct to 10.5.6

and getting access to Trackpad functions with a borrowed 10.5.5 Keyboard.prefPane

Hi there, I'm new to this forum. I've gone thru the guide at the beginning of this thread and I've successfully got kalyway 10.5.5 running on my aspire one. I just got my Broadcom WiFi card and it works great. The problem I'm having is that I get a kernel panic at shutdown usually when I'm using the battery. The battery meter works fine. Sleep doesn't work though. I'm guessing this is a powermanagement kext issue but I'm not sure.

I've searched for answers to this problem but no luck.

Anyone else having this problem? The system boots up fine after the kernel panic. It's just annoying is all.

Thanks for this great tutorial, it took me a few tries but it was well worth it. People at work ask me about my Aspire One with OS X, I just tell them it's my new Macbook Nano! LOL

Any help would be appreciated. I don't really need to have the sleep feature working, but the battery meter I would like to keep.

Hey guys, I got the dell 1390 and the install went well but only came across one problem. Has anyone ran into a situation where airport will not connect to a network that has a wpa or wep. It might be the card but it will connect fine to a network with no protection. Just curious if i was the only one having the problem

Which distribution did you use? I used XxX 10.5.6 ... wonder if it might be something in that version. Also, do you have the dell 1390 card?

Thanks, I thought I had read that the sd-slot did work (albeit only with a card already inserted upon bootup). Is there any way to get rid of the icons in the top bar? As in, disabling a service that detects these two pci-e cardreaders?

Incidently, if you still have the url of the 'alpha'-driver, I'd like to keep track of this progress.
