Booting in 32-bit mode went to the desktop, but there was still only 1024x768 in the Displays prefpane, SwitchResX doesn't seem to work (still saying Unknown Monitor).

The kexts you attached just make it white screen then black screen with backlight. ;)

Thanks again for the help, and don't worry too much about the video.

EDIT: I even tried doing the patch with iAtkos 7i (10.5.7) and it blue screens, then black screens. :)

Although on Leopard, the monitor doesn't say 'Unknown Monitor' in DisplayConfigX...

Ok my friend...we try put your display to work...but not...happens!!!

Im still in alert if you need something, ok?

All the best for you!!!!

In time: if you can post to me your theme.plist in System/Extra/Themes, and your com.Apple.Boot.plist too, im wish edited and put back too you, because im try put Chameleon, and im modified theme.plist was 1024x800 to 1280x800, and without kexts, boot in native resolution too, like my files...(im discovery today).

Im wait if you wanted...tks!!!

Even after your helpful videos and instructions, I am still getting a stupid screen with no backlight. And by the way the Computer I am using is an Acer Aspire 4736Z. Do you have any other ideas why its not working?

Thanks for your reply! I use 10.6.0, and chameleon 1.11 something... I dont use Chameleon 2 because it kills my atheros wireless. And also since my display is 14" so the native resolution is 1366x768. Is that why it may not be working?

Anyways thanks again and I'll see what I can do.

Hi cheeseplox!! Yeah, maybe because this chameleon you not get native resolution...you alredy try PC EFI 10.1 or 10.2...?

But if you using GMA 4500 intel graphic card, your device is 2a42, because bash file im using on tutorial, is for then..not others, ok??

Someday you can try another bootloader, just for "take a risk"...anyway, all this is pure hobbie...i guess!!! Hehehe!!!

But anyway, tks for back results!!! If some day you try this bootloaders, remeber to replace my files on my back posts...

See you later my friend!!!

Hi , I'm using GMA 4500m (not X4500 or 4500mhd) ,dev id: 2a42 on an Acer laptop.

I have tried many solutions on this site ,in order to fix stretched screen , but all failed :D

The native resolution is 1280X800 , but now default unchangeable 1024X768.

I use BootThink boot loader , 10.6 vanilla (original version) .

chameleon doesn't work ,maybe because my HardDisk use ide0 , dvd use ide1 , which mode

seems to be unsupported by chameleon !

Hi...are you try some methods posted on this topic? Or maybe use PC EFI 10.1? Are two methods that im post: one - without kexts, two - with displayconfigxprogram + bash files to GMA 4500...try some then, and after, post your results, if you wish...

My native resolution is 1600 x 900 (16:9) aspect ratio; so i see all stretched on 1024x768 :)

I only obtained QuartzGL compatible, whith OSx86Tools

:) Neither of your solutions work for me!

It must be emphasized that I use GMA 4500M(2a42) , not GMA 4500X or 4500MHD !You use 4500mhd ?

your first solution failed , perhaps becuse EFI (and Chameleon ) cannot support my laptop(the problem of

ide0 and ide1 )Chameleon doesn't work no matter it is installed in windows or mac !

On booting It shows nothing but "boot0:done" ,and then system goes to Windows boot loader!

your second solution failed too . Actually I ever used the bash to generate a new kextv , but no use !

As anticipated , It still doesn't work this time , as though by the help of displayconfigx !

Hi my friend..Snow use other tecnology to grapchis manager. In Mac OS X we have Quartz GL. In Snow, we have Open CL. This is not compatible with Osx86tools. This program enable Quartz GL. But not Open CL.

So, not work preview or front how in native resolution with 4500 intel owners...:D

To work some program to see images, use Xee (soundforge.source), its nice!!

Hi...no boring, we have same hope!!! I hear notice that 10.6.3 beta update will work Open GL, so not QE yeat but, some hope in Snow Leopard!!!!

Bye...

Great ! I have managed to get the native resolution 1280x800x32 ! Thanks a million!

First , I installed Chameleon 2 RC4 r684 and configured it correctly to boot my snow system.

and then followed your solution's instructions(the one using DisplayConfigX ) . When I entered

my snow system , to my surprise , I found the resolution became what I had dreamed of!

but all input devices except mouse didn't work.

Fortunately, I boot again the snow system using my precious BootThink loader and feel

happy to see the beautiful gui !

Still I have no ideas whether boot loaders have any influence on your solution ,since I tried this

solution in a system booted using BootThink yesterday !

However ,I can now enjoy Snow Leopard ! Thanks from ShangHai China !

Yeah!! Skyilu....tks for post your results..!!!

Finaly works for another suffering intel owners!!!

Im never tested with BooThink before, but congratulations for discovery by yourself!!!

Im sure that secret point to me is the theme.plist edit file...and DisplayConfigX is a good solution to people that canot get without kexts...

But tell us if you use a bash files to get kexts modified...ok?

Great my friend, tks so much for test and retest this tutorial!!!

God bless you and your country....

Tks...from Brazil!!!!

OK!!! IM PROMISSE, AND HERE IS THE VIDEO TUTORIAL FOR SNOW LEOPARD -DONWLOAD

***

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Install on your SNOW Leopard this program call DisplayConfigX *** Tested in 10.6.0. Maybe you need install modified kexts again, or everething if you like to 10.6.2 (im not liked and not use this update - so bad to my SONY VAIO, im use only 10.6.0)

2. After install put my serial on zip file.

3. Go in "Monitor" window and mark "Allow system resolutions within range"

4. Put Serial like i said in menu "File -> Register"

5. Go to Menu program "Resolution" and unsubscribe all resolution except 1280x1024

6. After unsubcribe go to same menu and in + button add RESOLUTION "HDTV - 720" and click in "done"

7. + button again, and this time choose "Resolution" (not automatic) and before click in "done", change "vertical line" 720 to type 800 and click in "done". See that "horizontal pixel" alredy is 1280

8. Go to menu "Install" and click in "install" button

9. Reboot is required

10. Do not reboot yet. Download FUNCIONOU4500 bash file zip and unzip on desktop

11. BEFORE REBOOT, Open TERMINAL and type sudo -s

12. Type password and enter

13. Drag and Drop this file unziped on Terminal window

14. Just type in final line -vrf 2A42 and enter (look "A" not "a").

(with drag and drop you see this: "/Users/<SNOW>/Desktop/patch4500-1.bash -vrf 2A42" just complete the line, ok? and enter)

15. REPAIR PERMISSIONS WITH DISK UTILITY for Mac Os X, and KEXT UTILITY for SNOW *** After repair, if you see in Extra folder System/Extra/Extensions a file created by KextUtility call "Extensions.mkext" - delete this file because maybe cause kernel panic after reboot...

16. Close Terminal, all other programns and Reboot. Cross the fingers...

17. After Reboot, resolutions is 1280x780, is normal...

18. Go to System Preferences on dock, Displays and change to 1280x800

19. There is your new resolution...

20. Tks to be patient, and please, back your results...

AND OTHERS THINKS THAT MAYBE YOU NEED TO PUT WORKS INTEL GMA 4500 NATIVE RESOLUTION

Hey Max, I have tried your new tutorial, installed PC EFI 10.1, but as usual, no wireless, and still stuck on 1024x768.

I think it is because I have a new 16:9 ratio screen, so the mac cannot recognize it so it falls me back to an ugly 1024x768. Do you have any suggestions what I could do?

Thanks

Very Nice young people!!! TKS again!!!

I tested all this in SL 10.6.0 ( 10.6.2 seems to be ok too)

By the way , my network devices never worked until I updated my mac to 10.6.2

From the very beginning , I have been using BootThink boot loader which works better on my Acer 4630z laptop

than both chameleon and PC_EFI .By this I mean , using BootThink is so easy for me to configure properly that

most of devices work (mouse , trackpad , audio(VoDooHDA.kext) ,lan and wlan except screen with ugly resolution ) .

On the contrary, chameleon (PC_EFI ) just frustrated me without keyboard working .

In a SL system booted using BootThink , I tested many other approaches and max's ones ,yet all failed .

It's still unknown whether some mistakes were made by myself !

In practice , I always notice that other methods are tested in a system with a boot loader other than BootThink

(believed to be written by Chinese , but You can also use it even you have never learned it )

So I installed Chameleon 2 RC4 r684 and configured it to boot smoothly my SL. After Booting SL using chameleon ,

I did exactly Max's have told .

1. Use the bash to generate a kext .(patch4500-1.bash)

2. Use DisplayConfigX

3. reboot

details can be found in Max's posts.

ps: Last night , I installed a wrong usb driver , leading to disfunction of my usb mouse and U disk. So I reinstalled

SL(not erased the Mac partion ) . Now all turns normal , even after I deleted the chameleon loader (I use BootThink)

It still confuses me if I really need chameleon to boot SL system to follow max's instructions....

Ok, tell me if after you install PC EFI 10.1 you replace my files MAX CORRETO DUAL BOOT. This files contain: Boot (other), Extra, Extensions, Theme, theme.plist and com.Apple.Boot.plist.

My experience is simple: im my machine, im not need use other solutions to get native resolution, only replace my boot files.

In that case, im help some guys that not can get with this, so im post another method, using DisplayConfigX, because for a long time im using this in Mac OSX, and now, for coincidence, works too in Snow Leopard...

Thats All, if you can tell me how is your partition GUI or MBR, your graphic card (im supose that was intel GMA 4500, and your native reolution, maybe i can get the light, my friend...)

Tks

Ok Max! I was able to get my native resolution (1366x768) AFTER installing the boot loader you had, but once again it goes pitch black and I need a flash light because the backlight is not activating. Do you have any idea what I am doing wrong?

Anyways thanks again.

Sorry to make you puzzled ! The whole thing is really time-consuming and complicated.

Now The SL runs smoothly.

I Use BootThink to boot my SL system , and the resolution is correctly configured by DisplayConfigX.

So many Thanks ,max !
